hi guys ! sup ? hope u all are doing good :)
just as the topic  says, I plan on building my first rc nitro plane ... it will me made of coreflute/coroplast .... the engine I will be using will be cox .049 rc cruiser engine with throttle ...  here are the questions :
1) does the cox Canadian website ship engine to India ? what are the shipping and custom charges ?
2) does hobbyking ship to India ? if so what are the shipping and custom charges ?
3) i have a redcat racing shockwave rc nitro buggy .... I use the tornado 20% nitro fuel (the availabe on rcskyhobbies)on it and it runs great ..   will I be able to use the same fuel on my cox engine ?
4) also if  I brew my own fuel without any % of nitro , will my engine still start and run ? what will be the difference in performance in nitro vs no nitro in my plane ?
5) will any 9g servos work ?
6) I've seen a lot of nitro coroplast plane builds but once again I would like to confirm that if its possible to make a nitro rc out of  coroplast ?
.....thanks in advance :) .....

I have seen many flying nitro engines with methanol + castor oil mix for airplanes. You need not go for expensives stuff as flight engines run at lower speed than nito buggies. It is better to buy from local hobby shops for engines rather than importing them ( if it worth the import duty + shipping). You can buy engines from indian manufacturers like UMS technologies.  ;)

thanks man ... what do u think the price of cox engines would be in India ?  .. and is it necessary for rc buggies to run on some % of nitro or can they do fine without them ?

I exclusively use electric powerplants but Coroplast planes, better known as SPADs, were exclusively flown on fuel engines when they were first conceived. Hobbyking ships to india and if you do not go overboard with the package size or order price, there are no custom hassles. Shipping is quite reasonable if using registered airmail(takes an average of 10 days to arrive). :)
It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic,
Of all things physical and metaphysical,
Of all things human and all things super-human,
Of all true manifestations of the head,
Of the heart, of the soul,
That the life is recognizable in its expression,
That form ever follows function. This is the law.

1. Yes, shipping reasonable. Customs charged occationally only on EMS.
2. Yes, same as above.
3. Yes, recommended blend for cox is 20% nitro.
4. Yes, absolutely but with lesser power.
5. Yes, absolutely. But preferable to use metal gear due to higher vibrations.
6. Yes, absolutely but try to keep it light since it is equivalent to less than 100 watts of power plant.

thank you people .... this is the fastest replying forum ive seen :D :D :) :) !!! thanks
just once again, can i use the same fuel (tornado 20% nitro) on the plane ?? or do i have to brew in a different ratio ??

sundaram

#7
You should be able to use same fuel without any issue. Ensure lube is atleast 15% out of which maybe 5% castor if not all.

5% castor is recommended but all synthetic should not be issue.  As long as it its not it not extended prolonged usage over long periods

rdude42

thanks :) ... can anyone give me any plans (downloadable) on how to build them out of coroplast ??

rdude42

just a small question........ if instead of buying the cox engine, if i buy the ASP S21A Two Stroke Glow Engine ( http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8990__ASP_S21A_Two_Stroke_Glow_Engine_.html ) , would it work ?? how would i control the throttle ?? the same was as in the cox ??
thanks !

sundaram

Unlike Cox ASP has a proper throttle with Carburetor. Yes

rdude42

So I would need to connect it to the servo and use the pushrod to control the throttle ?

ok guyz let's just forget the size of my plane for a minute ..I want yo build a little bigger one ... engine should be roughly .21 size ( that's nit too big right ?) .. now could u folks please give me alternatives to the cox engine ? id like to buy from hobby king so please include the price also ... o don't need a 4 stroke or any ... just a simple yet powerful 2 stroke nitro engine .... please keep the price under $70(inc shipping and maybe customs) .... thank you in advance ... :)

rdude42

umm can anybody tell how do I mount the engine onto the plane ? should I mount it on a piece of wood and then hot glue that piece to the coroplast plane ? any other ways ?
ps engine is gonna be asp s21a or asp s25a ...

rastsaurabh

make a plywood firewall of shape I then Screw on coro..... put lots of thick skewers into coro fluets with hot glue or some other

rdude42

thank man :) ... BTW can u upload a pic of ur setup ? what do I need the skewers for ?
