38" span, flying weight approx. 450 gms

Plans and article here:  https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=5419

I had a Cox 049 engine, and lots of balsa scrap/offcuts lying around, plus some bits and pieces of covering film

So....

Wonderful!
Though you are a Coro master, I can't help liking your balsa builds more...

Remember a similar size Cox .049 model by Col Sundaram 2-3 years ago?
It was quite fast, as I expect your Hornet to be, even without a TeeDee.

Expect to see video on Sunday evening.

You have inspired me to take out the Mercury Marvin plan I printed from OuterZone several months ago for participating in the RCG Vintage Forum's Early Age Revisit Build Off. (Involves building a model built or desired during one's early years in the hobby). For guys like you and me, it means over 50 years old!

Glad you liked it Iyer sir

Marvin should be fun to build. Which power source do you plan to use?

saurabhhsrivastavaa

That looks like a great build Sanjay sir.
Please do share the maiden video. I think you may wanna add a couple of more rubber bands to the wing... 😉

BTW, wish you a very happy belated birthday. Hope you had a good one...
Cheers !!!

1. Thanks Saurabh
2. Of course, there will be 4 flat bands. This was only for CG check and the photos
3. Thanks again  ;D

saurabhhsrivastavaa

Your balsa build looks soo damn professional.
Appreciate the attention to detail and efforts.
Good luck with the maiden.
Cheers !!!

Thanks Saurabh, will post the video

Took advantage of the public holiday today (for Gur Purab) and maidened

Really sweet flier; very fast but at the same time stable. Has a good glide after the engine cuts

Sirji,
GAJAB is the right word!

Comments:
1. My wife was having a nap when I clicked on this video. She immediately said 'Yeh koi Cox wala control line hai kya?', ie, your circular flight pattern could be recognised even without looking!
2. You are able to talk while flying. That's more than I could manage on the maiden of such a model!
3. Bang on needle setting. Just a click or two open from max rpm, as seen from the slight peaking at the end.
4. Your launcher must be a veteran. The second short clip is a good tutorial for newbies on how to hand launch.
5. I suspect you used a fair amount of nitro. 20+% perhaps?
6. How did you get a 4 min run? 50 years ago we used to get only about 2.5 min on a Babe Bee tank...
7. Nice field with no distractions. Where is it?

You did inspire me to start on my long pending RC Electric Marvin. Made the ribs yesterday.

I have a thread going on RC Groups where past world champions, authors of aeromodelling books etc post encouraging remarks from around the world. There are a lot of guys out there with over 50 years experience willing to talk to you and share their expertise.
I wish this forum could attract that kind of audience.

Would it be a good idea to post a build log here? Would anyone be interested?
You are by far the most prolific build logger here, so you are the right person to ask.

Regards

I'm always interested Iyer Sir!
Awesome build Sanjay sir! Great Job as Always ;)
I'm super busy with my IndiGo ground Classes but i always open the forum once a day to keep up :)

1. RC Aunt is brilliant! Kudos to her :)
2. This talking is a bad habit, but like many bad habits, it just happens ;)
3. I guess we were lucky :D  :D
4. The launcher is Joginder Singh, a veteran of many many aeromodelling years. He's known as turneast31 on this forum
5. I used 20% Falcon fuel, again from Mr. Joginder
6. I have installed a 2 oz (60 ml) DuBro clunk tank. On the maiden we used 20 cc, which lasted a little over 20 minutes! The engine is a Cox Sure-Start, which does not have a built in Tank
7. Gurgaon being a rapidly expanding urban centre, we lost our earlier field to development. This one is an additional 20 km away, ahead of Sohna! And, while it's there it's there. Who knows what tomorrow brings

Please do make the Marvin. Beautiful and nostalgic

Undoubtedly interest in my, or almost anyone's, builds has gone down on this forum. But I still continue to post in the hope if it inspires even one person, it's worth the effort

Sanjay Sir, we are really inspired.
But to reach even half the competency level of yours, it will take me ages.... :hatsoff:
