Wanted to build a 40 size Nitro in Corro, and decided to adapt the Pilot Shooting Star 40 L, designed by Y Matsumoto
Plans on outerzone.co.uk

Don't have retracts :'(
But will use flaperons ;) ;D

Bit different from my normal corro builds
The designer suggests a weight of 2.45 to 2.8 Kg. My judgement tells me that in corro, this will be around 2 Kg only. As the engine weight would be the same (actually more, as I will be using an OS 55AX) it will be very nose heavy. So Will mod it accordingly
Used a 12 mm Balsa spar
The wing is swept back and tapered too.
The top is flat, and the underside tapers upward forming a dihedral on the bottom

Great choice.
Look forward to seeing one again after over 30 years.
Good that you'll have flaps, as she'll fly/land rather faster than our electrics...
At a 60"span, I did not feel too happy about using the normal corro ailerons. So I stuck a balsa TE (10 mm) and will use balsa ailerons. These will be made from 6 mm + 4 mm balsa sheets glued together and sanded to shape

Have you seen this model before sir? I looked in RCG, RCU etc. for a build log/Flight test but couldn't find one
Wingtips from HD thermocole, epoxied in

Will be using 2 X 17 gram Metal Gear Servos for Ailerons

John and Arvind used to fly one in Polo Ground / IITK in the early 80's.
Will check if it is still around.
Your build log will become the standard reference!
Send a link to SteveWMD. Perhaps he can attach it to the plan download page.
Will the 55 not be too much?
Edit: I think i'll send any further interjections as PMs, otherwise it disrupts the continuity of the build log.
John I knew; Arvind?
I have only a 55, it doesn't have to be flown at WOT ;) ;) :giggle:
Don't PM unless it's a Personal Message
Fuse is normal 4 mm Corro, but with a lot of reinforcement
2 mm lite-ply lining in the front half, and triangle stock at the back

I make a " crutch" from 5 mm close fluted corro in the front. The tank rests on top, and the main u/c contacts it to spread the load, plus it is a structural member

Black enamel paint used for fuel-proofing the wooden parts which could be exposed to fuel
Decided to make a Balsa Block half-cowling - because I've never done it before :giggle: :giggle:

Oh, and I drilled and tapped the GRN mount. Will put a single nyloc nut at the end

Awesome..Just speechless... Keep up the good work Sir. :salute:
Hi sanjay,
The lite ply you are using can be got from local plywood dealers ?. With what material are you planning to cover bottom part of the fuse ?.

1. I got the ply from Mr. Krunal Gajjar, gajjark on the forum
2. This detail will shortly follow. I have posted about 10 Corro builds on this forum, have a look

just finished seeing some of your builds, what will happen if one keeps the bottom of the fuse open and fly?
Depends on the kind of model. On a trainer, nothing too much except dirt
On a sports/performance model, will create turbulence. Inverted flying will be difficult
However without the bottom sheeting the fuse will have a twisting tendency. The rigidity comes from the box structure. So when the fuse flexes and twists the tail feathers too will move. The controls will be very fuzzy
Great Build Sanjay Sir All the best for Maiden
:thanks: :thanks: Abhi
thanks
Wonderful Build Sir. Lovely looking model.
All the best for a good maiden flight.
Thank you Asupan
Master of coro. :salute:  :hatsoff:
What a build , if you ask me it looks like a balsa plane .
Exactly, it looks like a rtf one.
Ashok-ji, Raj, Ashok v2 - Thanks very much :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
Many feel Corro models are not good-looking, and difficult to build
I hope to show the converse also is true
And, I hope it flies ;D :giggle: :giggle:

I deliberately added reinforcement wherever I could to increase the weight. Finally at 2.1 Kg (4.6 lbs) with the Rx battery and an empty tank
Use a Sullivan 300 cc tank with 3 tube system
I had bought some time ago 2400 mah NiMh LSD batteries from HK. Made a Rx pack from them

Hi sanjay
How does one balance a glow model ? (W-fuel or W/O fuel)
Sahil
Try and figure it out. What will happen to the model's balance as the fuel is expended?
Tail heavy when fuel tank is empty but if one balances with fuel then after tank become empty model tends to be nose heavy so........... :headscratch:
Edit: Wait
1. Balance model with out fuel and then add fuel becomes nose heavy and when empty balances again.
2. Balance model with fuel and when empty tail heavy.
.....and better nose heavy than tail heavy, especially if your fuel unexpectedly gets over and you have to make a dead-stick landing - then you sure don't want it tail-heavy ;)
correct don't want it tail heavy especially in windy conditions starts acting bouncy and hard to control.

Try and figure it out.
With due apology to Sahilkit (not aimed at him!)
This is THE BEST ADVICE to newbies who won't make the effort, and expect to be spoon fed.
its okay even if it was aimed at me ;)
Sanjay sir.... Again a beautiful build... Hats off....
What to say, I have no words.
Thanks Doc; Thanks Nitesh :thanks:
Maiden washed out today - heavy rain since 4 am :(
its raining here in Hyderabad as well.
Wrong place. Post your question in the appropriate section/thread. Better read RC Gems: http://www.rcindia.org/rc-india-forum/the-rc-india-gems/ (http://www.rcindia.org/rc-india-forum/the-rc-india-gems/)
Missed the thread sanjay sir,
awesome build .
Thank you Manoj :thanks:
When I first saw this I thought this was an RTF!!!!! But then I realised who was posting this and I knew it couldn't be :-)
You sir, by far, are the most amazing builder.
Sanjay sir, mods will have to run a separate sweepstakes for you, where all your models will qualify, the mods wont need a judge and we all know who will win. That is one of the finest builds. I love the stars on the empennage. Lucky to have seen this model in its making. :salute:
sir ji
best of luck for the Maiden
:goodjob: :iagree:
Thank you Pratyush, Girish, Bunty :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: very much
Sanjay sir again i am late but your build is excellent you r genius hates off to u :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: and good luck for maiden and waiting for maiden video
Thank you Gaurang
Sanjai sir this is an excellent build as usual..... just curious to know what is OK MODEL mentioning in title
See post #1
http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/zattack!!/ (http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/zattack!!/)
Still waiting for videos.................................... :headscratch:
Long wait - until I find a ground :-[ :-[
Not yet maidened?
May the soul of the beauty rest in peace. :(
Still a virgin
Looking for a ground.
Else, I know a couple of chaps in Lucknow with super facilities...........
Actually I built the Cherokee for the sweepstakes, so had to take out the engine and put it on that
After the maiden, the Cherokee too lies desolate for want of a field :(

Else, I know a couple of chaps in Lucknow with super facilities...........
Private RC runway, open field all around, cant ask for more :)
And a couple of expert RC Pilots for when you get into trouble >:D
(who are also great company, some of the nicest guys on the Indian RC Scene ;D )
Thanks sir. We are blessed to be in yours.
I am very sorry. I totally mistook on it on the earlier reply. All the very best for the first flight sir.
On the way to lucknow will be honoured to fly it If you have not done it by then already.
PS: Diminishing flying space is a sad trend of late sir. Heard about Bangalore guys Hoskote fiasco too recently.
