Wanted to build a 40 size Nitro in Corro, and decided to adapt the Pilot Shooting Star 40 L, designed by Y Matsumoto

Plans on outerzone.co.uk

Don't have retracts  :'(

But will use flaperons  ;) ;D

sanjayrai55

Bit different from my normal corro builds

The designer suggests a weight of 2.45 to 2.8 Kg. My judgement tells me that in corro, this will be around 2 Kg only. As the engine weight would be the same (actually more, as I will be using an OS 55AX) it will be very nose heavy. So Will mod it accordingly

Used a 12 mm Balsa spar

The wing is swept back and tapered too.

The top is flat, and the underside tapers upward forming a dihedral on the bottom

Great choice.
Look forward to seeing one again after over 30 years.
Good that you'll have flaps, as she'll fly/land rather faster than our electrics...

At a 60"span, I did not feel too happy about using the normal corro ailerons. So I stuck a balsa TE (10 mm) and will use balsa ailerons. These will be made from 6 mm + 4 mm balsa sheets glued together and sanded to shape

Have you seen this model before sir? I looked in RCG, RCU etc. for a build log/Flight test but couldn't find one

Will be using 2 X 17 gram Metal Gear Servos for Ailerons

K K Iyer

John and Arvind used to fly one in Polo Ground / IITK in the early 80's.
Will check if it is still around.

Your build log will become the standard reference!
Send a link to SteveWMD. Perhaps he can attach it to the plan download page.
Will the 55 not be too much?

Edit: I think i'll send any further interjections as PMs, otherwise it disrupts the continuity of the build log.

sanjayrai55

John I knew; Arvind?

I have only a 55, it doesn't have to be flown at WOT  ;) ;) :giggle:

Don't PM unless it's a Personal Message

Fuse is normal 4 mm Corro, but with a lot of reinforcement

2 mm lite-ply lining in the front half, and triangle stock at the back

I make a " crutch" from 5 mm close fluted corro in the front. The tank rests on top, and the main u/c contacts it to spread the load, plus it is a structural member

sanjayrai55

Black enamel paint used for fuel-proofing the wooden parts which could be exposed to fuel

Decided to make a Balsa Block half-cowling - because I've never done it before  :giggle: :giggle:

Missed this pic  8-)

Oh, and I drilled and tapped the GRN mount. Will put a single nyloc nut at the end

The tail feathers are made from 2 sheets of 3 mm corro glued together, reinforced with some 3 mm Carbon Fibre round tube

Hi sanjay,

The lite ply you are using can be got from local plywood dealers ?. With what material are you planning to cover bottom part of the fuse ?.
Today might be a great and wonderful day. It depends on you.

1. I got the ply from Mr. Krunal Gajjar, gajjark on the forum
2. This detail will shortly follow. I have posted about 10 Corro builds on this forum, have a look
