Profile Edge 540 - Nitro Version - Scratch build

Scratch built Edge 540:

This is easy to build less money less fear and more of unlimited 3D flying, this is a completely customized and self designed so I have no plans for this.
Material's used:
1.   2mm Coro for fuselage and wings(BVK iyengar road 110 rupees  per sheet very cheap)
2.   4mm Coro for all control surfaces including the stabilizer
3.   Engine OS 46 AX with tuned pipe or ASP 61AR 4 stroke
4.   4 standard Futaba servos  and 1 mini servo for throttle
5.   Balsa for fuselage and rib construction for wings.
6.   Hinges, horns, landing gears, wheels from HOBBYKING.


it just took me one evening  for the CORO cut out for complete build, and 1 complete day for rib section of the wing as its again is a hand cut which needs lot of time and patience.

Fuselage construction:
First you need to cut the Fuse part, cut 2 pieces of 2mm Coroplast 10x39, with the flutes running in the 39" direction.
Next, cut out 2 pieces 3 1/2" x 3/4 for engine bearers.  Then cut a piece of 1/4" square dowel to fit the rear vertical portion of the fuselage, and glue in place.
Line the top engine bearer in place, then lay a dowel above it.  Mark this flute from front to rear, to use as a glue line, and also do the same for the bottom rail and dowel.

Good start. How are you planning to mount the wing firmly on the fuselage?

I have made a special setup to hold the wings, picture is uploaded now.

Wing construction:

its a one piece wing so its rock solid when it comes to strength no pain of extra wing attachments required as in case of detachable wings,

Yogesh,

I still do not get how the wing is fixed to fuse. I am not sure if those little reapers could hold the wing rigidly. Further, these planes are meant for good 3d moves, so you easily pull some solid Gs on the surfaces. Your wing is solid. fuse is also solid. but with what I understood, I guess the weakest link is the wing-fuse attachment.

I have made profile planes before but they always tend to wing mounting issues. I followed a different way of doing it. Just curious to know what you are up to.

BTW, its a neat build. Keep it going!

I am always fascinated about your build's it's a like a textbook  :salute:  for me I keep going back visiting your threads, your Coro builds are my inspiration to start this project  :bow:

Coming to wing mounting I had made it simple, just fixing the rib part of the wing to the wing holder in the fuse with 30 minutes Epoxy, now I need to rethink and modify the plan as extreme 3D's will take a beating on the structural strength of the wing mount, will do some research on wing mounting, in the mean while input's are most welcome.

Thanks for your compliments Yogesh.

These profile planes always tend to have problems with wing mounts. I just wanted to caution you before you proceed. I will see if I can post my profile plane picture.. All I had is just a short video of it. However, I don't think it will be of much help to you as the wing mount is all together different.

On your build, I would recommend a firm and sturdy link between the fuselage trusses and the wing main spar. The end result should be that the wing should not wobble w.r.t the fuselage. Think about all possibilities before you sandwich the fuselage trusses between the coro sheets.

BTW, I have seen the build thread of the 540 in spadtothebone. The author mysteriously excludes the wing mount section of it. Don't know for what reason he did that.

Another build aspect to watch out is the landing gear mount (if at all you want to have one). I always have problems with landing gears! Profile planes are even more harder as there is no sturdy area to mount to the wheels.

You could check out the build pics at this site of large profile planes - http://www.swanyshouse.com/primo/construction.aspx.

They seem to have made the upper and lower sections of the profile fuse separately with a CF reinforced pod in the middle that attaches the wings. The upper and lower halves of the fuse then attach to the pod. Structurally too this looks solid.

Overall a nice site and a gives good idea on profile planes of these sizes.
