Hi Guys,

Just completed a brand new Seagull Yak 90-120 size model. This is my friend Rafeeqe's model which I made for him. Details below:

Model: Seagul Yak 54 (90-120)
Engine: Super Tiger 2300 (1.42 cc) (140 Size) (Its an overkill  ;))
Servos: Futaba 3152 Digital High Torque
Battery: Lipo 11.1V 1000 mah with regulator (will be upgraded soon)
Receiver: Futaba 2.4Ghz 7Ch 617
Wheels: Stock wheels (Foam)
Rudder: Pull Pull System (wires are too thin... infact it broke while the breakin, so will replace it.)
Fuel Tank: Stock tank 420cc
Fuel Tubing: Dubro Large Size (ID 2.5mm)

We did the breakin of the engine today. Will test fly tomorrow.
This is a very good built plane. the kit is surely high quality and all the stock items are good and complete in all sense. Fit well. The only thing I noticed that could be improved was the pull pull cable. Should be a little thicker and strong. We may use cycle brake wire or something like that.
The engine was just amazing... 23 cc of raw nitro power.... 3.7 HP at peak RPM of 12600. Could not expect more... 8)

Enjoy !!!!

Yes, they are linking to a site called app52.com which according to Google is hosting malware.  But Seagull Models are available from other vendors too, like :

http://www.rchobbies.org/seagull.htm

If you are really want to, you can tell Seagull about their website problem by contacting them at :

Hi,

Seagull models are available in Mumbai... there is a dealer in India for Seagull Models. I am not sure of the person. If you write to seagull models on their email, they will give you the number of the person in Mumbai. U can call him and get the models.

With regards to specs you give about the engine, it is a 1.42 cubic inches and not 1.42 cc, then again as you said it is sure an overkill, bet you must be sure with your CG and the fact that the firewall will withstand the massive pull
As for pull pull cables you can also use badminton racquet chords which would not only be lighter but also stronger. Bicycle/motor cycle steel cables would be an overkill again

Hi,

Thanks for the correction. Yes it is 1.42 ci not cc  :P

Will try the badminton wires but the pull pull cable is steel cable with nylon coating.. i still believe that steel cable would be more strong.. but badminton lining is not a bad idea... will check it out...

Anyway, we did fly it at Nagarjuna sagar... it took off well... it was toooooo windy and gusty... we had to add wieght to the tail to get the CG right. The model flew well but the engine had some issues with the needle settings... so while landing, rafeeqe had a deadstick and the model dropped like a stone... thank god it was only 4 feet above the ground and no serious damage happened.. We lost the landing gear only. He will fix it in a day or so. We are planning to testfly it again during one of the weekdays. We even got a video of the same.. will post it soon.

in the meanwhile, Rafeeqe had a spare pull pull cable that he installed and flew with... this time if the line breaks, will try the badminton line.

CG is a problem with this model. You need to balance it accurately (preferably a little tail heavy) as this is a 3D model. We are still having some tuning problems with the engine... will sort it out and post the review.

Not to berate what you are doing, but in general I fail to understand what people do. First put in an oversized engine on the nose and thus make it too nose heavy, then add on tail weight to balance it, making the entire setup much more heavier than it was designed to be. What is the fun in buying a car and shoving a truck engine under the hood?

Hi,

Yes. you are absolutely correct in saying that there is no fun putting an oversized engine and then adding counterweight. But I hope you understand that this is not my model. Had it been, i would'nt have done this. Rafeeqe did not have any other engine to suit this plane and he did not want to invest right now. So I just build this model on his behalf. He provided the engine and i just fitted it knowing that it was an overkill. He wanted to try it and was more of an experiment. I already have a Seagull Extra 260 (90-120) on which I will have a OS 120AX. Not built though... will be making it soon.

The OS 120 AX would also be overkill for anything other than 3D.

I guess 26cc gas would be an ideal engine for this model... All the best Chan...

I see a similar model from Seagull at : http://www.jackshobbies.in/products_big.aspx?imgid=644&his=1
Saurabh, is your model the same as this ? Specs seem to be different though...
RCSky sells one at ; http://www.rcskyhobby.com/productdetail.asp?pid=369&sid=99
But though they label it as 1.20 size, the wingspan is 77 inches ! . Would need a 35CC+ to power it up .

saurabhhsrivastavaa

yeah!! its the same that i made...
26cc is more than enough...

hi guys,
as to your C of G prob
did you spot the note on the site listed as seller of plane? the CofG is wrong on the plan and needs to be 7-8 cm behind leading edge 'AT THE FUSELAGE' not at the 'wingtip'............

Hey, was just looking for similar build.  I too just finish building my Seagull Yak 54 (Same color scheme)  I love it!  Had a bit of a scare yesterday at maiden...she was nose heavy...scared me to death.  Our club has a 600ft runway with ditch at both ends (Hard to nail it).  On my 3rd go around the engine cuts at about 60ft and I over shot the runway and it disappeared behind the hill.  NO DAMAGE!  I was amazed..didn't even knock the gear off.

For my next flight I will balance the plane at 7-8 cm behind leading edge (At the plane..not wing tip).

Where is your models' CG at?

Thanks

Hi Steffey,

This model sits flat at 8cms from the leading edge. All the best for your next flight. What engine you have on it? how about the electronics? Request details and pics and vidoes if possible.
