Polycarbonate sheets would be available at places who stock coro. It is used for making temp sheds etc.

Are they just called polycarbonate sheets or is there any local name for them?

They are actually called "Multi walled Polycarbonate sheets". Size is 4.6 mm and 6 mm. Use the one that is 4.6 mm.

OK folks, The extra is ready for its 1st flight today (Maiden flight sometimes seems like the "Only" flight  ;D). Everything in place, and locked in. Ready to glow.
Hope she flies well.
Will try and post the video and pics after I get back from the field in the evening.
Hope everyone has a great flying day
Safe landings

You probably have a heli radio with mixing on.

Yep, some programmable mix seems to be enabled (regardless of whether it is a heli radio or airplane one).

Best of luck for the maiden. What material did u use for the wing spar?

All the best for the maiden. Do let us know how it flew.

Flight Report:
Something was not right. The plane kept banking, first on one side and then the other. No amount of trim kept it level. Maybe the airflow over the two wing surfaces not being equal is doing it. But the glide was superb. So back to the workshop tomorrow and 1 wing to be remade.
Will update you soon.

Wing rock is a factor of forward speed, did this happen even at high speeds ?

Having wing rocking problem @ both hi & low speed may b bcoz of different aerofoil (shape of both wings). Can c in the pix clearly.

The difference in airfoil may be the issue but then it could be fixed with proper trim settings. If the trim setting is intermittent then the cause could be something else. Check if there is a wobble in wing. I suspect that the wing incidence is changing due to wing wobble.

I had similar issues with my red-spitfire on the elevator axis. It turned out to be wrong wing incidence.

My poor Extra took a back seat preparing for Amby and then the aftermath of Amby. But Now finally here is the flight video of the first flight of the SPAD Extra.
Waiting for comments and suggestions.

Doc, nice birdie..how did you attach the wings? You used the same method from spadtothebone? or you used your own method?

I devised my own spar for this build.
I had 2 pieces of aluminium "U" channel 20 inches each. Instead of using the wooden pieces in the middle I used aluminium channel. The main spar was 2 pieces of coro (I use Polycarbonate sheets) perpendicular to each other and stuck with 30 min epoxy. I first hen pecked the 2 sides that were to be stuck together. before I stuck then, I slit the piece with the flutes lengthwise, so that I could put the aluminium channel in between the 2 pieces of coro. I guess it is too confusing. I'll try and take a few pics and then maybe I'll be able to explain better. Just wait a couple of days and I'll tear open one wing that I had made earlier and then I'll take photos and post them.
