Can we connect the lipo to the ESC inside the house ?

Hi all,

As the subject might indicate I'm new to RC and heli. i have recently purchased a 6 channel 450 V2 heli. Its just sitting idle as I dont know how to fly ???. I'm trying to watch the videos trying to understand basics  :banghead:

i need to know if i can atleast connect the lipo and check what moves on the heli when i move a stick on the transmitter. Is this safe ? i'm worried if the blades starts rotating as soon as i connect my lipo. Please let me know

Firstly it is safe, secondly starting to learn  with heli? Why? Heli doesn't forgive, slightly difficult to start with , no embargo though, in most electrical heli, the motor has a banana slot on one side , you can use a hex or a screwdriver and delink the motor. Lastly you tx should be on before you connect the batt , reason is, say you throttle is reversed, idle will be construed by the ESC as max throttle and will start max throttle determination mode and will beep accordingly until you move your throttle to the opposite end. Also you will know you throttle is reversed. If you can't delink the prime mover from the main rotor drive your best bet is take it outside. My 2C bit.

Sujju, I know where rc bazaar is :) i visited RC bazzar on thursday to get the training ball kit. i'll surely give a visit again. I underestimated this thing  :banghead:

All the wires are firmly fixed. I'm afraid if i remove them i'll not be able to put them back given how delicate they are(looks delicate or my inexperience makes me think so :headscratch:). Morning i'll take it outside the house and connect the battery of course with the tx turned on. And should i center all the sticks. Right one is centered always. Left one can be moved up down this is not centered. (I'm assuming this one is the throttle)

Please let me know.

hi mate.
first thing is if you are worried about wires then take the 'big' blades off in case as said 'it starts'.
the throttle should always be right down and the little slider control at the side of it right down also .
the other slider controls and stick should be in the middle..
what make and model of heli do you have ??
take the heli and tx with you when you go to rcbazaar.

hi mate.
a 450 size.....definatly not as a beginner connect inside house
it will destroy the room if start up.
the blades go round at about 200 miles per hour so you don't want them touch any thing . seriouse injury from moving blades.
take it to the shop when you go  and they will advise you how to use it.
get your self a sim to learn on first.

Whoa!! Sure i'll not fly them inside. But is it possible to at least see how the servo moves ? without spinning the blades ?

hi mate.
don't get too impatiant..... ;)
it depends on the tx you have . is there a throttle hold switch?
it is all too easy to start these up accidentaly. best is to unplug the motor, just three wires label them first 'A ' ' B' 'C'
label both sets if you are unsure about wiring.
so a label for 'A' both sides of the connector and so on with all three then unplug them and you will be 'safer'.
read up on lipo battery 'care' and lipo battery 'safety' these are also dangerous items, if treated wrong they can explode. need to be stored in cool, fireproof place and NEVER left to charge where they cannot be watched all the time.
don't switch on the heli with the blades folded...always open out the blades befor switch on.......... or take them off if working on the heli

pls do not spool up the heli indoor.. pls invest in a lipo safe bag... pls get to learn on a sim as much as possible before take off...

same as RCbazaar Try on simulator first... when u start with heli, impatient handling of joystick may lead u in trouble just in seconds..
I can take off and fly well. Its landing which sucks :banghead::banghead:

Hi,

i had been to RcBazzar yesterday. Sims are out of stock and i was told it would be restocked soon. Meanwhile i couldn't wait to start my heli. i took it out to the terrace and switched it on with throttle down and throttle cut on.

i've installed the training gear to the landing skids. i tried throttling it up so that it skids on the floor, tried to move around slowly careful not to hit anything.  Heli started drifting moving around even thought i controlled throttle stick ONLY. on some occasions when i increased the throttle it even tilted !!  :headscratch: landing skids balls saved the blades !!.

Questions,
Why does heli drift? i just increased the throttle remaining all sticks are centered. (Many videos on hovering i have seen this happens, so i'm assuming its normal).
Why did the heli tilt ? is this normal ? i never touched the any other stick so shouldn't it just stay perpendicular to the ground! ?

Please let me know.

HI MATE.
as said above why learn on this heli?
a heli is like a child's balloon on a string...... the slightest air movement will move it ...that is wind, drayght and air from the blades you need to use two sticks to control it .
google for RADDS SCHOOL OF FLIGHT'  and follow that.
can you ballance a golf ball on a foot ball for 1 min??................ no????................... that is like a heli.
constant stick movements are needed..

Thanks for that. i just need to know its normal for heli to tilt when it hovers (i'm more concerned that settings are not correct or something like that). When i get my simulator i'll start learning on it. but till then i i'll learn on this. I'' try not to push too hard though  :)

hi mate.
you must check the setting first...... a heli will only react properly when properly set up and adjusted.
the store may do that for you .
it takes a couple of hours to properly setup and adjust a heli to fly properly.
you will need
hex allan keys ....1mm 1.5mm and 2mm and one to fit the blade bolts ...depends what bolts are used some are hex some ore Xscrew driver.
a pitch gauge for the main blades,
some soft lock tight for the metal to metal threads on  bolt ...these WILL come loose in flight other wise,
read up on lipo care and safety.....these battery can be dangerous if miss treated.......do not let the volts go below 3.2v PER CELL.
you will only get '8 mins max' fight time from a 12v lipo or it will be damaged and no good any more..

going through the RADDS SCHOOL OF FLIGHT i'll understand this and hopefully i'll get some idea about heli setup and settings.

how can i check the voltage of the battery ?.. can i use a multimeter ? i have a 3S lipo . so 3.2 X 3 = 9.6V if my battery voltage drops to 9.6 volts does that mean i need to charge ? is that a correct method or atleast close so that i can manage ?

pls pick up a set of cd's from rcbazaar store... we have ray's helitech series in the store..
to check the lipos voltage you need a good charger (that will show the voltage on each cell ) if not pls invest in a lipo checker which will cost you rs 200

hi mate.
yes a multimeter will do the check...if it goes below it will not charge fully .....if at all.
these are totally different battery care to normal round cell type batteries [nicad etc]

Thank you, i checked using multimeter. its reading 11.15 ( ~3.7 V/cell, its not so low yet) .. when do you think its a good time to start charging ? Does this battery (lipo) have a memory issues like niMh, nicad batteries?

the higher the volts in battery the quicker the charge time. :) :) :)

its an awesum heli. i have the same one. like sujju sir said dont even think of spooling the heli inside ur house with its blades on. one more thing dont at all take it in the air before u put on the skids, u being a beginner will surely crash it. first n the foremost HAVE U PROGRAMMED UR TRANSMITTER??. CHECK ALL THE PARAMETERS  before u hit the throttle. go through the videos on youtube to arrange for removal of static. dont forget to strap ur battery with the straps. :P and the most importat thing is LOCTITE THE TAIL ROTOR GRUB SCREW. when i recieved the heli the screw was loose ,not rcb s fault but such things hav to be taken care . ull be needing a lot of assistance from RCB as ur totally new. i did the same :P .

i didn't order this heli from RCB (its exactly the same thought). But, i must thank RCB for the help they are providing. i dont know what this looks like "LOCTITE THE TAIL ROTOR GRUB SCREW" :headscratch: but i think its fine. I had taken it to RCB, person there had a look and told me its perfectly fine.

What is removal of static ? i'm assuming the transmitter is programmed as this came ready to fly  :P how the hell can ppl hover the heli !! it drifts crazy !! :(
