This is just gonna be write up solving the confusion of beginners and intermediate pilots to whats good whats bad and at what level should one do the switch .....its not also about all this but also depends on personal preference to what feels good and what does not .....
FLYBAR
Well a FLYBAR is used in rc helicopter to provide mechanical stabilization to the heli in order to make it less sensitive and more controllable for flight ,now if one must ask why dont i see it used in a full scale real helicopter in this case there is a lot to understand bout mass and balance since rc helicopters have more power to weight ratio and are so light that the gyroscopic precision by the rotor head is not sufficient and will instantly turn the helicopter this is not the case with full scale helicopter well some full scale helicopters do use some thing very similar but its more like a rod with weight balance rather than a flybar and paddle that we are used to in rc helicopter .......so not drifting from the topic a flybar is a rod with paddles at the end to provide mechanical stabilization
FLYBARLESS
FLYBARLESS is basically a rc helicopter without a flybar and additional components attached to the head :headscratch:......in a flybarless head there is no flybar rod, no paddles, no flybar, cage no ,flybar cage, mixing arms ....but the only thing present is washout arms and linkage rod directly connected from blade grips to swash ....so how does it derive stability that is done digitally through a FLYBARLESS GYRO
FLYBARLESS GYRO
Unlike a typical gyro used on flybar helicopters the flybarless gyro not only assist the tail but the head too...all the stability required by the helicopter is digitally provided by flybarless gyro ....pros about using a flybarless gyro is u can increase or reduce the agility and stability of the helicopter as and when desired t any extream ....on a conventional flybar head the stability can be maintained but the agility gets stagnant to some point and additional components like aftermarket flybar paddles or new design of rotor head have to purchased well for a person only doing sports flying this setup will be great but advance 3d maneuvers require immense amount of agility so a flybarless setup is ideal
FLYBAR PROS
EASY to set up for beginners
Provides really good stability
GYRO used for tail only is cheap
ALL Programming needs to be done by tx only
FLYBAR CONS
Reduced flight time
higher crash cost
multiple linkages causes a mess in head setup (personal opinion )
Stagnant agility
Troubleshooting problems takes longer in head
Overall maintenance goes high additional due to extra bearing screws
FLYBARLESS PROS
Higher flight time over Flybar due to less rotating mass
Provides stability overall better than flybar
All programming needs to be done via Computer or buttons
VERY little setup by tx
LOwer part count
Lower maintenance
Lower crash cost
Easy head setup
troubleshooting is quick
Stability and agility can be set as per requirement from beginner to advance to manic
FLYBARLESS CONS
COST OF GYRO IS HIGH STARTS FROM 40$ to 500$
Setting Up gyro requires good knowledge not so easy for beginners
FLYBAR GYROS TO CONSIDER
ASSAN 250,HOBBYMATE 790,AVIONIC GY560
Spartan quark ,futaba 401
FLYBARLESS GYROS to CONSIDER
AVIONIC X5,RObird G31,Tarot ZYX ,if on really low budget copterx x3000
MSH BRAIN,MIKADO VBAR,BEAST X, Skookum
Well as you can see flybarless is better than flybar helis in many aspects...u can even use a flybarless gyro on flybar heli only on tail which gives u an option to upgrade later ...most gyros offer this option ....
BUT BUT BUT.....When it comes to flying its all a matter of personal preference some people still prefer the feel of flybar heli they feel flybarless too synthetic ....some people like the feel of flybarless ...
As for me both have their pros and both have their cons i like them both for specific reasons but still prefer flybarless and switched to it  ....reduce crash cost ,quick and easy setup on computer all are just too good to miss plus additional stability is just great ...and most of all makes the heli feel very predictable to me ......low crash cost and maintenance is the major factor though FLYBARLESS gyros are little expencive but in long run helps alot to keep cost down .....hope it clears few things and help people decide better between the two  ;D
flybar and flybarless u decide :)
great post, but shannon with the right FBL system they are even more stable. One of the advantage of fbl is no cyclic slop and immediate cyclic response.. AND yes triple gyros :) . really appreciate for your efforts shannon..
Kudos man .....nice write up :hatsoff:
I am planning to try DFC on my 600N any suggestions on that ?
i prefer the original flybarless head than the dfc ....i dont mind linkage rods getting broken rather than the whole dfc head ripping apart if it hits the ground if u know what am trying to say :giggle:
thanks avesh and yogesh
Good write up ... I agree to most points expect crash cost.
I think crash cost is higher in case of FBL since the servo gears take most of hit. They are most likely the casualty.
if you have noticed even the SAB GOBLINS are going back to the I head than the dfc head....though dfc has alot of advantages crash cost is a problem with it ...if u have deep pockets go for it man
hmmm but i had more servos rip on a flybar setup than a fbl setup both metal gear the washout arms and linkages being separate in a fbl head have a great advantage in this ......i put my 500 fbl at 2700rpm blades first in the ground no problem just fethering shaft and main shaft had to be replaced
:hatsoff:
thanks for the post you saved my time , i was going to google it today {:)}
welcome ...just had time to write it today coincidence ..... :headscratch:
do you guys want a write up on belt vs torque tube ???????????????? 8-)
torque tube = > crash and dent in pocket
belt -> better, for example goblins
Yes but lot of advantages to torqe tube
very usefull words for heli lovers especially....nice study shannon...... :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:
thanx ...that was more out of experience then study
Good one
... Yeah go for it TT VS Belt make a seperate topic
ok give me some time ill do the tests my self on tt
3 voted for flybarless and one for flybar hmmmmmmmmmmmmm :headscratch: flybar
thou flybarless is future and resembles close to real heli i vote for flybarless as flybar is all screwed when crash.
thanx avesh ,honest votes guys people just gonna setup helis will benifit from this and help them decide
I flew a FB 450 after a while today. I had forgotten what it feels like after flying FBL for a while.
I must say, I absolutely loved it. I was actually loving it more than FBL.
I cant describe it, but it was more connected and locked in.
What's the difference between a flybarless gyro and flymentor?
flymentor is just used for making a flybar heli stable it uses the tx swash mix to fly around a flybarless gyro digitally mixes the servos and does the work of a flybar with less parts in the head and provides better stability u cant use flymentor on flybarless heli and u cant use flybarless gyro on flybar heli

u cant use flymentor on flybarless heli and u cant use flybarless gyro on flybar heli
Ok I understand there is restriction. But I. Don't understand why !!, is flymentor different from flybarless gyro ? Can't I use a flybarless gyro in a flybarless heli to get more stability ? ???
in a flybarless heli u get more stability using a flybarless gyro .....the flymentor only provides stability but in flybearless heli FBL GYRO also compensated for drift due to wind making it even more stable ....if u use a simulator like phoenix fly a flybar heli first then fly a flybarless u will see the difference
so the votes say it all flybarless is better than flybar and its a better one time investment on gyros ..and saves alot of crash cost ahead !!!!!!
how is kds 800 gyro @ 1700inr . How is the deal..
the price will tell u bout the quality itself dont go for it .......u can go in for their heli kits but not electronics
get the avionic G560 or hobbymate hb790
G560 seems a pretty good option.
g560 n hb790 are of same price
