Though I do not know much about Helis, I think the TREX 600 should be a good choice.. Pretty expensive and big! Runs on 6 cell Lipos..

Go for the Compass Atom 500 (available with great support from Rajesh at RotorZone Bangalore) or the Align Trex 500 (should be available with Rotor Chennai).

I have seen Rajesh fly, and he can do a thing or two with helis ;D  And one lesson I learned early in this hobby is that more serious the seller is about flying, the better stuff sort of ends up in their stores !

Since the flying times are low (even for normal flight, you will get around 6 or 7 minutes usually), I was looking for affordable  6s1p 2200 high C batteries (need at least a couple for one session), and finally found a good match with a brand named "V-Plus XP" (from Korea).  Their 30C batteries allow for good 3d performance of about 4 minutes.

People are also saying good things about the Zippy brand of lipos (for regular use).

The battery costs are significant and flight times low, otherwise this would be a better choice.  You can get double the number of batteries for a 500 class.  They would also require a larger field.

The first heli I owned was a Trex 450 and the next one was a Trex 600 electric.  But I soon realized that the 600 electric was too high maintenance in terms of battery costs, so I sold it and got a 600 Nitro (longer flying times, and comparable/affordable fuel cost).  Finally I got a Trex 500, and I feel that it can do pretty much everything the 600 electric does, and it more affordable and portable.

My build was held up due to other RC and non RC stuff getting in the way (including setting up a mini titan ;) ) Will get back to it soon.

Thanks for the plug, Anwar.

I have seen the Atom 500 and test flown it, I don't think you will in any way be disappointed with the quality/product.

The key is to find affordable yet reliable 6s1p batteries, so that you are not frustrated with the somewhat shorter flight durations. This is not an Atom issue, it is true of pretty much all 500 class helis (at least the good ones like Compass, Align, Mikado, Lepton etc).
