O boy... just realized that the ESC I ordered is without UBEC :( How sad.. now I will need another power source to power up my receiver??? Please advice

vinay

u can use 4 aa sized batteries, but that will become heavy for a heli that size.

findvikas

Can I purchase a UBEC seperately? Any recommendations?

How about this one?

Also if I plan to use this one, how the setup will look like?
Lipo => UBEC => RX
then what goes in ESC ? Do I really need two Lipos or can a single one be used?

vinay

I think there is a turnigy ones for 4 or 5 usd. Dont worry abt the connections for now. You can order a UBEC or another ESC with U BEC altogether.

YES - > Lipo to UBEC to RX. the same lipo used to power motor can be used.

Isn't that SBEC or am I missing something?

EDIT: Ok.. you updated it, I think I am too quick and this is no IM :)

SBEC/LBEC has Nothing to do with the motor. it just powers up the RX and servos.

I guess I found an easy and cheap solution..

I have this 2cell 500mah 7.4v lipo which I am not really using for any good.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9187

I verified that spectrum RX worked in the range of 3.5v-9v so I could directly plug in this lipo to power up my AR6110E. The weight compromise is just 33gm.. should not be any problem. right???

findvikas

Awright... I just tested the power of this motor... and I did not dare to test it for long as the sound (noise??) scared me :)

Here is a quick video of me testing the power of this motor, equipments used
DX6i, AR6110E, HK 50-60A ESC, Zippy 2200mAh 3cell for ESC, Turnigy 500mAh 2cell for RX, Stick mount, pliers and my scared hands :)

PS.: Notice how the nuts unscrewed from the stick mount as the motor rev up to full power

Ur RX will work, but servo/gyros may go up in smoke. Weight of 33 gm is not a problem though.

findvikas

ahh.. yeah.. the servos... lol... how I missed that :)

xxkrishxx

which tail servo is good for this?? looking for tat hk's link..thanks

Buy yourself some good hex driver set first.

Since I could not use any of the three hex drivers that I have for all the screws. The same driver fits in couple of screws while slip in others... I could blame it on screws as well and also on drivers.. what I feel that they are not accurate 1.5 screws.. I had a 1.3 driver too.. which works in couple of them. To test it I used 1.5 driver that came with my spektrum radio and it too slipped from couple of them.

hmmm... so where to get the driver which is guaranteed to be 99.9% accurate atleast. I chosen no other but Alien
Just ordered this set of 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 hex screw driver
http://www.align-trex.com/hexagon-screw-driver-hz024-p-2936.html

What I also observed that HK450MT has cheap plastic motor holder and the screw can widen the plastic if I screw it hard enough, dont want to take any chance when it comes to motor. So I decided to get a Trex 450 SE v2 motor mount as well from Alien. Total order comes around 2k including shipping. Now the wait starts. :-(

findvikas

Waiting for 15 days is a long period just to get the hex driver... :( does anyone has a quality hex driver in Bangalore that I can beg/borrow for couple of days?

vinay

Align will strip! They will strip the screws as well as strip them selves!  :P

Each strip costs you 250 Rs. Thats quite a lot of money! They wont work because Align is 1.5 mm and Hk is 1/32 inch or something like that. If you read back a couple of pages of this same thread , I had clearly mentioned this!

Ask me how I lost 500 Rs. I will tell you a whole different story.

The plastic Motor mount was good enough, but if you feel metal is the way to go then you will find upgrading many parts soon  :giggle:

The perfect hex driver is mip thorp, you will find the link a couple of pages back. however I have ordered 1.5 mm Heli direct built hex driver. Wanna check if they work well or not.

Dont know If anyone will lend you a 1.5mm Hex for an entire build here in bangalore. Cause they are so precious!  ;)

Not my experience at all on Align helis using the Align hex drivers. I still use the Align hex set I procured more than  years ago.  So does others who have it.

Now it is a different story if the screws are of a different size/quality.  That said... I did build my HK bird with them, and I help others at the field with the same set !

I wonder if it is an issue of not stopping at the right tension on the screws :headscratch:

I just got back from my local hardware shop and did not forgot to take my heli body... he was trying to sell me the same screw driver set that I had for 100 bucks while I needed only H1.5 bit.. uhmmm actually H1.5 bit fit nice and snug in all the screws of the body, ofcourse except those who are H2.0.. so I tried to bargain.. I need only single bit.

After he showed up interest in the Heli itself, he got back and bring a broken screw driver kit of same brand and asked me to see if it has that bit. There was one H1.5 bit lying with him.. I took that for just 10 bucks , yeah little costly when compared to 100 for 32 bit set... but I needed only single bit and that too fit nicely in all screws.

The problem with cheap drivers is that their tip gets the damage if the screw is tighten up.. they just strip. Another idea to fix them is, just cut the stripped tip off using a nice sharp metal cutting blade. Yeah I need to pay close attention to use those and make sure dont tight too much. I am just trying to put the pieces together for now and waiting for the driver to come to see if that works.

With the given fact that China made H1.5 is working fine, Alien should work too ... lets hope for the best :)

findvikas

The plastic thing didn't look quiet good to me.. seriously. yeah sure I just want to try a driver to make sure I can buy that. Alien driver is going to be a good investment in long term for my hobby I guess. :)

Couple more things...

1.  I do have a US hex set, that people borrow from me time to time to handle odd sockets.  But I did not have to use it on my HK450 TT Pro.

http://hand-tools.hardwarestore.com/22-413-allen-wrench-sets-folding/gorilla-grip-hex-key-set-255471.aspx

2.  For a simple hex set, this one has everything you need for around Rs.100.   I saw another version of the same set (flat packing) at Ashta's house also :)

http://www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/allen-keys/msg30613/#msg30613

This is commonly available in India... and I see the same in department stores in Qatar too ! In fact, this is all I needed while I was in India, while fixing Trex 450s, 500s and 600s !  Only the 250 required special drivers, but they are supplied in the kit !
