Title: Stripped Feathering Shaft Bolt - Hiller 450
Post by: ebinmoothedam on August 13, 2012, 03:58:51 PM
Hello All.

As I was building my kit, I came across this much "anticipated" issue - Stripped Bolts. And yes, this happened right on the feathering shaft ! :banghead:

The challenge is, I have the beginner series Hiller 450 which comes with a plastic rotor head, and I am not sure if I should apply any "heating" mechanism to pull out the bold. The bolt is placed deep inside and I am lost on how to remove it.

Please check the below image, the bold groove is almost circular now.

I really believe the factory guys should put good quality bolts at least on the feathering shaft as its very important. Rest all the bolts, they can provide cheaper ones. Yes I know that we only get what we pay for  :salute:

Its better to post these things under one topic instead of creating new one for each.
:)

I would suggest you to remove screw at other end of shaft and push feathering shaft. Feathering shaft will come out and you can heat it now to remove bolt.

saw a slit into the bolt and use a normal screw driver to open. A saw may not reach there but a circular cutter on a dremel might. I know its a pain ;)

I would still try touching a soldering iron on the tip of the nut before opening. But again thats just me. Do it at your own risk. Also try holding the nut in a nose plier if possible and unscrew the other side of the nut. Heat is the god.

Other thoughts. Just leave it as it is and go fly if it does not open.

I believe its always better to post separate for an issue so that the discussion will be streamlined and the thread wont grown into multiple branches eventually people getting lost not finding the solution later on.  I came across this issue while building the Hiller 450 [Hiller Build (http://www.rcindia.org/helis/embarassing-and-confused-!-hiller-450-v2-cheap-clone-build/)] which almost got the entire build process into a halt. So I started a new thread to solve this issue, and later continue my build log on the earlier thread. I guess this serves the purpose of a forum better ?

This is my plan A :)

If Plan A fails, this is my Plan B :) :)

Even in plan A try some heat bro, For me, the bolt came out like butter after that. Again at your own risk.

@vinay, i tried heating method. I have a needle like soldering gun , it was red hot but the screw didn't budge.. It depends on luck i think.
