    Hi Guys !
I recently came across this forum and it feels really amazing to see rc community growing in India.I am a novice to model airplanes and want a little help and suggestions from you guys.I have built a model plane ( famous by the name "hangar rat" ) and my own rubber winder which gives pretty decent ratio of 6:25.The only missing link is the proper rubber which is very hard to find.It will be a great help if any1 can provide me fai tan rubber or suggest me some good alternative.

Edit: The plane is made out of icecream sticks !

nice build........
you can try rubber bands available at vortexrc , ebay , or some local stores in nagpur stores them....
you may use rubber in helicopter toys soled at different signals(in nagpur)...

Welcome to RCI.

Excellent.
Especially if a first attempt.
Is the prop correct?

See the posts of a member called 'glidiator'.
He can teach you everything you need

I think you need a single loop (2strands) of 1/8 17" long.
Right?

That helicopter idea is really nice...i have seen those helicopter sellers at the signal....will definitely try that...
otherwise the Ebay version costs around 2000/- which is pretty expensive for rubbe...really appreciate your suggestions...thank you very much !  :hatsoff:

thank you !
actually this is my second attempt...first one was complete disaster....learned few things from it and made this one with actual plans of the plane and little extra care...
The propeller seems ok to me as it rotates in a nice circle and does not wobble in any direction....and i dont know much about rubbers...but i guess one loop of 18inch with 5mm(3/16inch) width will do just fine ( according to the plans ! )

Hello, great airframe there, I started with hangar rat as well, but electric version. I dunno much about aircraft grade rubber but check this out, it might help.

Thanks! @bilal
The rubber from the link you have provided is used to secure wing to the fuselage i guess..i dunno if it can sustain 300-400 turns..but its cheap...so i will definitely try that..thanks for the help ! And i have seen your built...it really flies well...hope mine will perform the same! ;D

You can get rubber at $ 4 per packet from fly-m.com. keep order value less than Rs.2000/-. Then you may escape Customs duty. Only this rubber will take 1000/2000 winds.
Will be receiving my rubber stock shortly. Will send you some length.

Thanks ! @Glidiator
$4 for a pack is pretty reasonable...I will give it a try !
On rcbazar they have 3/16'' width rubber in guillows spare parts column...will it work on my plane? :headscratch:

^ Shreyas.xD

Thank you! @Voice of deaf
I didn't knew that rubber has a name...thank you so much ! :giggle:

Glidiator

Shreyas - if you want to seriously pursue indoor free flight rubber power I have a load of useful info which I put on a DVD and send to people.
Let me know

The Thera Band sounds interesting. Only thing how to strip it into 1 mm or more flat width for use in airplanes. Rubber strippers are available but expensive.

^ Shreyas.xD

Sure @glidiator sir !
I would definitely like to have more info on free flights...free flight models are really fascinating and fun to watch than rc planes ! ;D
The thera band looks promising...also I saw in a post that saikat da has scratch built his own rubber stripper.Maybe he can provide more info on that.. :)

Glidiator

Shreyas- since you are in Nagpur do you have contact with Dr. Rajesh Joshi who is an ace aeromodeller.
He is coming with 5 enthusiastic youngsters to Sonepat Haryana for the first ever Indoor Nationals from 12th to 14th May.
I am coordinating the Rubber power event. It will be good if all Indoor Aeromodelling enthusiasts can meet and take this area of aeromodelling to greater heights.

Dear glidiator , I too had a hard time cutting the rubber into desirable size strips , you need to see through SAIKET DA'S posts to see he has made an object to slice balsa strips , I use a very similar thing to strip, although steady hands is the key

Its the width.
Thickness is approximately 1mm.

Glidiator

Yes as KK posted   All FAI TAN rubber has 1 mm thickness

The FLAT WIDTH varies according to requirement
