@Anwar sir,
Are we to post here? Sorry not clear to me despite your pm.
Anyway, here goes.
Step 1 - See pic
Step 2
This is all i have,
So what can i build?
So what if i don't have material.
I have ideas ;D
Ideas
Which may or may not work.
So what?
An honest failed attempt is also a worthy attempt!
RC AUNT says
Step 1 should be THINK
before PLAN
Not here.... create a new build thread.
Split and moved into Electrics board... assuming it is going to be an electric model.
So the birthday present is finally out !! all the best
@Anwar sir,
Thanks, but could you kindly move it to Self design, DIY thread please.
@rcpilotacro
No sir. Something else!
Suspense mounting :D

@Anwar sir,
Thanks, but could you kindly move it to Self design, DIY thread please.
Self-designed was never really meant for regular RC crafts, it was more for electronics tinkering, things like self designed TX-RX, robotic stuff etc. For RC crafts, please specify in the topic name if your build is self-designed.
Ok, sir.
Suspense increasing ??? ???
Iyer sir, chup chup baithe ho zaroor koi baat hai...
Bandar nachega to photo chapegi, varna nahin.
Naach, KK sir, Naach :giggle: :D :D

I take 24 hours when VC takes 2 hours.
Then i end up with some funny parts...
Ahaa! {:)} {:)}
Someting very creative coming up :D
A little bird told me it's a V Tail ;) ;)
hi,
how do i participate in the sweepstake.
do i have to create a new build thread.
kindly help
regds
yes, create a new thread and name it as xxx built for 5th Year Sweepstakes
hi,
thnx for the info
will do

Hi everyone,
First i thought better wait for test flight before posting build log.
Then i thought what if it breaks on test flight?
Won't have anything to show.
So posting my build without proof of the pudding!
The background is like this.
Material available 2 sheets of balsa 3x36, one 1/16, the other 3/16. And one 3mm CF tube.
With this you can only build chucks.
But i was already getting tired of chucks. See pic.
The time had come to explore this TLG/DLG business.
Complete with Y tail and adjustable incidence.
So built this.
Nothing great in the build log pics.
The real story is in my thought process as i envisaged this project. But i'll save that for the end, just before someone asks me where i got the plans from...
Back to pics.
Sanding down the trailing edge.
Leading edge reinforcement. Called bass/spruce etc in Englis, but in desi bhasha i know them as Jhadoo ki teeli.
Grooving the LE.
Bending the teeli. Not easy. Springs back on removing finger. (My super glue is stale)
Wing completed. Finish with epoxy? How much weight will it add? Could not estimate. Hence epoxy finish deferred for the present.
Tail parts completed.
Tail weight
Wing weight.
Some date stamps
Fuselage started.
Pod parts.
Boom weight.
Incidence adjuster.
Pivot mechanism.
Adjustable incidence setup.
Fuselage jigged and V tail mounted.
Turned over and underslung fin mounted.
Wing sliced.
Tips stuck.
Pillips entry?
Time...
Nice Nice sir... coming along well.
Quoteand adjustable incidence.
Maine bola tha..chup chup baithe ho, zarur koi baat hai...
variable incidence, ? great concept, i have only seen and flown variable sweep
Iyer sir, are you planning the variable incidence to be controlled via a servo? Looks promising for DLGs, given one needs to make continuous adjustments to drag/lift
No.
But thanks for a GREAT idea.
No pushrod. Servo in nose. Wow. Possibilities.
Awaiting 3.7gm servos from xtreme.
Need a 3-6a ESC too. My smallest is 10a.
But wait. Read my design epistle tomorrow.
Need to lay hands on a 1/4x4x36 sheet of 6lb balsa. Current one was 6.4.
Have one 1/4" CF boom, very fine glass cloth, finishing resin...
Only if the design flies. Am sure she will do a qualifying flight, but will she do 1min+?
Perhaps model no.3
Model no.2 already taking shape. (In my head, that is ;D)
Edit:
Meanwhile have to request Anwar sir to move this thread to the Free Flight board...
Don't jump the gun, guys.
Presently the incidence adjuster is only a humble screwdriver!
Gusty sir,
Don't be modest. You have flown variable incidence.
Only it was called (i know you'll break my head) 'elevator trim' ;D
Great men think alike and fools seldom differ - with your permission Sir, I may have a little surprise stashed away somewhere, soon ..........
Beautiful build Sir, DLG I presume. Following this build with eagle eyes, I promise.
Er
'Great men think alike and fools seldom differ'
:headscratch:
Spring it, spring it, can't wait.
Sanjay sir going hammer and tongs, building nineteen to the dozen!
I'll give you a clue - I was wondering what to do with these...............
And then I downloaded two plans for the Pelicatoo and the Kuntoel 28......... ;)
And then to hone my hibernated Balsa skills, I made 2 Chuck Gliders and am now building the third - increasing the size of each glider as I go along. :)
Sanjay Sir/ Rai Saheb has got it backwards by now - 21 to a dozen.
And experiment on gullible school kids, haha
Gullible? Schoolkids?? In 2014??? I didn't know that you were Rip Van Winkle in disguise! :giggle: You gotta be joking!
Model looking beautiful sir,
polyhedral wings look awesome.
Catching up? Overtaken :salute:

:banghead:
yes i have, but not elevator trim, all flying tailplane like the MiG 21, i dont know how many are aware that MiG 21 didnt have elevator at all, it had all flying (Variable incidence) tailplane, when you moved the stick back the entire tailplane moved and ofcourse when you trimmed it, it moved and didn't stay there (Moved again based on autopilot laws, height an speed)
You are somewhat right about it sir, all flying tail it is
Tomorrow is Sunday
Test flight day
Hopefully
Edit:
Why is the pic upside down?
Tried four times.
No matter which pic i delete, the ulta one remains :headscratch:
That shows the inverted flying capabilities of your model.....

Sirji...... from where you got the carbon fiber tubes??
DLG is catching up on RC India ... I am also having plans for same...... + VC as well... you completed it first.
TEST FLIGHT SUCCESSFUL!
Around 6 pm, 23rd Mar 2014.
First TLG in Indore.
First in India?
Edit:
Will not load even a 10 sec video of the test glide.
Will upload to youtube tomorrow and post link.
Test glide video

Test launch 1. Darte darte!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPAYcJtJ75k&feature=youtube_gdata_player (//http://)
Test launch 2. Not enough right rudder.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYAzCusGtOw&feature=youtube_gdata_player (//http://)
Test launch 3. Needs a bit more nose weight and a bit more rudder. And stronger launch!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnntwCPu-gk&feature=youtube_gdata_player (//http://)
How its launched ???
catapult or just hand throw?
Named it INDORE TLG1.
TLG stands for Tip Launch Glider.
Held by the wingtip. With thumb either above or below.
Just swing and release.
Note ease of transition from end of launch to beginning of glide.
Dear All
you need to post youtube videos a shown in the image below, basically if you notice url within Square brackets in the beginning and slash url at the end isn't required and you need to lose http or https, instead use www. In fact correct to post'em is also simpler and easier
easier way is keep posting and i keep cleaning them up, then that will entail the delay of me noticing it
@rcpilotacro
Wow! Thanks.
Was wondering why my posts often have your edits.
Will try one now as suggested.
Can't have Mod chasing bad links!
Edit:
The problem is that now i can neither see the video nor the link!
(Videos not visible on iPad)
Going to the laptop now.
Videos visible on laptop!
Harveer trying his hand.
First day best duration in still air:
Harveer 35sec, me 28sec. (Harveer is younger and stronger - 1/3rd my age!)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=I24AufBPt4I&feature=youtube_gdata_player (//http://) (//http://)
Sure look like fun {:)}
she still is a tad tail heavy, you couple afford a couple of more grams on the nose, you will see she will attain best glide angle for time
@rcpilotacro:
Sir, I remember the MiG 21 tail plane and wondered how it would feel for real in real flying... :headscratch:
And by the way, have I seen / made similar looking TLG from India Hobby Center long, long time back???? I wonder.....Any way, not so sure. No hard feelings ;) ;), guys.
I think the India Hobby Centre one was the Yellow Bird, which was a catapult launch
All old timers in India remember the Yellow Bird.
Too expensive at IHC for youngsters like me to buy.
Used to drool at the NCC guys (Kalsi etc) who had Yellow Birds,
and looong (1 meter) 1/4th inch rubber for catapult.
Still worth emulating. Thank you Alan J Webber :hatsoff:
www.stickandtissue.com/yabbfiles/Attachments/Yellow_Bird.pdf (//http://)
Plans cost GBP 12.50!
www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/15641/yellow-bird-plan-g805 (//http://)
Tip launching put high stress on airframe.
Condition after 20 launches.
Pivot detached from boom at about 20ft height. Then straight into the ground at full speed.
Wing balsa broke, not the joint!
Last flight on 23.3.14 before crash.
Getting better?
How high do think? 50-60 ft?
Have to try for 100ft.
Hear the sound of the launch!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvMlwYe3Wj8&feature=youtube_gdata_player (//http://)
Wow! {:)} smooth, powerful launch, 50-60 feet is my guess too and launches are definitely getting better.
Thanks Sidewinder. Heard the sound?
@saikat sir,
Right up your alley, if i'm not mistaken!
Edit: saw that you were online so i posted this. Reference to context is that last week i saw your old posts. Wow.
Yes, I did hear it, like a small rocket and on that note, how about launching it with one of those Diwali rockets which dont burst in the end? A good plane to measure brawn amongst people(thought of using men and boys, but people it is ;D ) at field.
Haha,
You may be suprised to know that i and my friend Suresh did just that - 50 YEARS AGO!
73 views in last 8 hours, but only 1 comment?
Thank you, Sidewinder
After wing repair,
Melted solder for nose weight.
It weighed only 11 gms instead of 16 gms due to losing the flux.
Redid the nose with the weight inside.
For those who may have missed the flight ;D
www.youtube.com/watch?v=I24AufBPt4I (//http://)
Most excellent! {:)} {:)}
And a lovely setting too :)
u mentioned earlier u will put servos...... have they been installed ?
Or its free flight as of now.
@rastsaurabh
Thanks for bumping this thread.
Don't know if you are old enough to have heard of Abbey Road.
Between 'Golden slumbers' and 'You never give me your number',
There's a line
'Boy, you've got to carry that weight, carry that weight, a long time'
Reference to context in next post!
(Hope some of the oldies, aka seniors, see this)
Pics
Can save 10gms nose wt.
Still add 23 gms or 50%
Like Orville said to Wilbur, "She'll never get off the ground"
Like they used to say in pidgin when we lived in Nigeria:
'Can't possible'
Hi everyone,
About 3 weeks back INDORE TLG1 just exploded on hitting the ground in a full speed dive.
Since then repaired/glassed front fuselage.
Weight has gone up from 44 to 51gms. Loading has gone up from 3.1 oz/sqft to 3.6!
This 15% increase has reduced still air time from 35secs to 25 secs.
Chuck glider enthusiasts may be interested to see the attitude of the model in the launch/climb phase.
Here are 12 stop action grabs from this Sunday's (20/4) video (courtesy our videographer Aunt)
Stop action 5 to 8.
Pics no. 9-12
As there is a page break here, you need to see post no 73, 74 and this together to make sense of them.
These 12 shots represent perhaps 1 second in real time.
Since pic nos 9-12 don't make any sense without reference to pic nos 1-4 and 5-8 (which are on the previous page), i am repeating posts 73,74 and 75 here, so that they are all on the same page.
Pics 1-12 need to be seen in sequence...
Will ask Anwar sir how to solve this problem of how to keep connected posts on a single page.

Good Stuff. Seeing this - I have also made a TLG and started flying it.
Am pleased to report that all the hype is true - TLGs are superior to conventional chuck gliders.
It is also a great crowd puller .
@saikat sir,
Looking forward to pictures.

Been experimenting with reducing nose weight.
After a certain point, the CG has been moved back so much, it is behind the neutral point.
The static margin becomes negative,
And the result is SPLAT!
(Will try to repair before next weekend...)

Thank you for sharing the tip on how to post videos with in-place view instead of just the links.
Just posted a few videos in the following new thread: http://www.rcindia.org/cars/veels-on-5er-hobbies-video-series-for-rc-car-hobbyists/msg203925/#msg203925 (http://www.rcindia.org/cars/veels-on-5er-hobbies-video-series-for-rc-car-hobbyists/msg203925/#msg203925)
Hi everyone.
Back on this thread after nearly nine months.
After the SPLAT last June, repaired her, but she didn't fly like earlier.
So decided to replace the fuselage body...
Repaired.
Ply fuselage sides for more strength, and lead covered with hot glue for nose weight.
But she now weighs 50gms instead of 44gms original.
No HLG can tolerate 15% weight gain.
For those who are interested in wing loading data, she is now at 3.5oz/sqft.
HLG/TLGs of this size should be in 2oz/sqft range, ie about 30gms for this model of 0.5 sqft area.
Since I used the lightest available balsa, I fear my Make in India efforts are simply not up to international standards...
CG still over 50% back from LE.
Note fin is not touching down.
