Free Flight

Rebuilt and flew a Gnome. Oldie (1960's) but Glodie. These days cannot find a  launcher at RC field and too old too run fast. Launching stooge and sticks ( fish pole) did not bring much succes. However catapult from stake is terrific. See video below. We die hards fly in haevy fog as you can see. Thanks god no thermals as this one has no DT.

Anyone doing Free Flight in Mumbai or Ahmedabad ? Would like to hook up.

saikat

spiffy !!

great setting - looks like something out of "Sleepy Hollow"

VC

Surreal and very very nostalgic. You brought back many old memories of my Gnome, the Calcutta Maidan and early morning escapades during the winters of 1979/80/81. Thank you.

P.s. I hope you found her....................

Free Flight

Hi Saikat and VC. Yes early morning with dense fog it does look like "Sleepy Hollow" And yes I kep an eye for it and ran after it. Found the Gnome each time. In this dense fog keep getting very well over a  minute of flight. One of these days it will be given back to the "Thermal Gods"

Now trying to build a "Yellow Bird" but with sling shot . My arms are too old and tired. If time permits, I will do a build log here with all new contraptions on this old HLG

You are not the only one here with old and tired arms. As long as the brain is young - Go for it. Sure you can do it. Come on Buddy. Never say die.

Allright VC . Your encouragement is appreciated.

Let me gather some 4 to 6 pound wood, carbon tube for boom and let the construction begin. Stay tuned I will update here or perhaps best start a new Thread as 2012 YB Catapul

  The Gnome....any close up pics?

Also, the picture of the plane in your profile....is this something you built?

Would be wonderful to see a HLG thread....!

@bmblb,
Have to be careful responding to old threads.
Most guys who know of the Gnome must be dead.
Except for a few like this free flight here, me, VC, saikat...
Perhaps flyingboxcar, maybe even sanjayrai55,
Surely my oldest friend Suresh/RR Gopal (Ahmedabad, not a member)
And the elusive John DeCruz
And one or two members that you may discover if you search for 'gnome'...

But if these last posts wake up Free Flight, it would be worthwhile hearing from him(her?)

sanjayrai55

Maybe?

It was my first ''built-up'' model with wing ribs. Built it first around '66, after some chuck gliders and Bobnis.

Then, in '85, I was recovering from a minor ailment, and decided to build another. And that rekindled the aeromodelling bug. Then, I bought a C/L model (Skybee Senior) and while flying it, met Kalsi. The rest, as they say, is history

Loved compressing airgun pellets with a pliers and inserting them in the pod  ;)

.....yes, I checked the age of the thread and knew it was old. What really got me to post was Free Flight's profile pic.....and not as much as the wonderful Gnome itself.

The plane in the profile very closely resembles a HLG I have followed closely and hence registered.

....so quite possibly he may be someone who was active on that thread - and if SO, it would be wonderful to hear from him.

Good lord... Gnome...... that's over 30 years ago I made it first..... My hangar included the Inch Worm, Gnome and the La Mouttee...... must say the La Mouttee was my favorite one.  Still have a plan of it with me.... Also downloaded the three plans from Outerzone yesterday and planning to build either the la Mouttee or the Gnome.... Free Flight models were the one who got me out of my sluber and made me go for a run daily.... as running behind them to retrieve was the only option..... now I am closing 50 and am planning to start my runs again... what better way to start it that be forced to run after my models....
Best wishes Free Flight...... Two Line Glides are not dead yet
Well I been into aeromodelling since I was in School....  and then been in the air for over 30 years.  Now looking to be back into aeromodelling full time...
