Any idea what type of Rubber band is used in these type of planes as in the video (and there are so many others in YouTube).

The rubber band I used last just for 5-7 Sec to complete the 100 rotations

That video is expert material.
Perhaps you can look for something called 'Peanut Scale'

Welcome to this forum, and best wishes.

The rubber is called Tan Super Sport

PM me your address and I'll send you some

arindamt

Thanks a lot Saikat-da (calling da as I see many other members are calling you so). It will be a great help. I will pm you my address.

arindamt

Saikat-da, I got the rubber bands today, absolutely great, can't thank you more, now its on me to make the model and post the Video.

sundaram

Saikat Da that rubber bands were from local source or external source? Please share if you have no issues.

saikat

it is Tan2 rubber - got a pound of assorted widths years ago from FAI model supply who
were the source at that time.

Tan2 is no longer in production and has been replaced by Tan Super Sport.

Still got a lot left and if any one wants (free) pls PM me.

only thing is pls do not expect overnight - as it will take some time.

sundaram

not as far as I know.

This is a very niche and somewhat unglamorous product.

The Indian aeromodelling market is dominated by multirotors and their ilk...
no hobby shop is going to keep anything which is not going to sell.

Even a mega site like HK does not stock.

Sad but that seems to be the story  :(
Today might be a great and wonderful day. It depends on you.

Ok Guys, I got the Glue gun this weekend and finished making it. This is made from Styrofoam plates and the rubber band I got from Saikat-da...., I think I did some 100 turns and it can go up to 200 easily. From the test fly...I think the plane is not going up. Anything that can be done? should I put the wings little higher in the front part? Please give your feedback. Thanks-

No. Model seems ok. For the present don't change anything except:

Add a little down thrust and increase the number of turns.
As you wind the rubber, first it will get twisted. After some more turns, you'll see something like knots forming, which is actually a second layer of twists. You should be able to safely wind till the second twists cover the entire length of the rubber. Increase winds gradually in successive flights till you reach that stage.

Post a video with more winding!

Thanks a lot KK....how do I add more "down" thrust?

K K Iyer

Half expected that question  ;D
Remove prop holder.
Sand a slight taper (~2degrees) in the top half inch or so of the fuselage.
Stick thin balsa shim to the bottom half inch or so of the fuselage (sharp end facing towards rear).
The idea is to make the prop shaft point slightly down.

As power is increased, it will have a tendency to nose up. Down thrust will compensate.

Your model is slightly tail heavy. Add a small blop of plasticine (smaller than a pea) to the nose. This will correct the wavy flight path.

Awesome...I am totally novice, so not aware of all the terms :), but now its clear.....thanks a lot :)

@arindamt
The rubber you are using is not just a rubber band.
Hope you tried out your model today before dark!
If you send a pm to Saikat sir, i'm sure he'll be happy to see your video and advise.
Regards.

arindamt

Actually I posted the video from office so can't test it before tomorrow again :(
I will post the update soon after following your advise....thanks a lot for coming back again :)

saikat

flight was quite good.

as K.K pointed - add downthrust ( the propeller should be pointed slightly downwards
when the plane is level) and maybe a small amount of weight in front.

arindamt

The Suggestions worked like a charm, it's now more stable and goes really high. I will upload the Video soon.

arindamt

Here is the Video.....Thanks a lot Saikat-da and KK sir-
