hi everyone, :)
Been getting into quads lately. This was my first semi plan built quad. I had initially bought sets of motor for my 450 flamewheel quad, i couldnt mount them in that frame. so being left with only motors i made a scratch built H quad(first pic below) so that i could learn to fly better, but since its arm broke and there were a few flaws in it. I came up with this quad for my learning platform.. :)
Im still learning how to fly and this thing still has to be fine tuned.
I would like to thank Veloci for his help in flashing the kk2.
sources of items used - rcdhamaka, rcbazaar, Adiboy, quadkopters, and hobbysea, i will buy items from them again. Great support.
frame specs- bought items from sp road, blr.
aluminium square tube - 16mm x 16mm x 190mm (1mm thickness) - 6 pieces. - 4 arms and 2 frame braces.
glass fiber sheet - 2mm .
screws and nuts.
sponge landing gears.
lots of zip ties
double side tape
used dremel and drill to get the shapes.
electonics-
frsky v8ll rx
emax 18 amp escs
1200 kv motors
8 x 4.5 props
KK2.0 FC. v 1.5 ,
3s lipo. it carries both 2200mah and 3300mah lipos
AUW- Will have to find out. ;D
Do give in all valuable inputs and suggestions. thank you
pics added.
This is so cool Pravesh! Pls maiden it soon!
Cheers!
EDIT - Is your Quad balanced properly? Can the bigger lipo counter the weight of the smaller one?
Smexy :D
This is cool. I am waiting for maiden.
hi veloci and rahul , thank you. you guys' build thread inspired me to make one.
maiden done already but no videos or pics, but will click and upload some soon. quad is balanced i think because the lighter weight is more outward while the heavier is closer from centre and there are gonna be 2 cams in front. :) need to cross check though.
pic of layout added with 2200mah 3s.
Okay pravesh. But why are you using a low voltage buzzer when this feature is already present in the KK2?
Check this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jmjiIpQWTA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jmjiIpQWTA)
You can use a 'RMC' connector(local name for balance plug) instead of the JST as shown...
Cheers!
Nice build Pravesh. Just wonder what's the use of plastic spoon!
Dharmik bhai, that spoon has been strapped on for orientation i guess. ;-)
@veloci- when i got the kk2 i dint get a piezo buzzer with it , so i thot best is to use the other buzzer.
@dharmik, thank you. your build gave me a lot of ideas. spoon for orientation (thank u veloci). but it will soon be replaced by vtx if i learn to fly it better, ;).
edit- video link added. just flew it for the video sometime back.

Nice flying Pravesh! {:)}
Next time, try hovering it in one place to test if its balanced....
Well done! ;)
P.S - Get a buzzer from S.P road (Rs.5) and solder it to your KK2. 2 minute job.
Thank you Veloci. :)
will do hover to check balance today. getting the buzzer when i go to sp road again, i dint know it was available there.
Check OM ELECTRONICS, VISHAL ELECTRONICS or NSK.
wow fantastic build pravesh :)
From where did you got that stand for your drill?? i am looking for something similar.
Hi Satya, thank u. :)
You can get the drill jig or drill press stand in SP road shops in bangalore but mumbai i dnt know but it should be available locally., i bought it from a shop which sells drills etc/.
Ahhh thanks :) i think i will look for it in ebay may be i can find it :)
Hi veloci,
I have brought ready to fly quad copter from RCBAZAAR, i am able to run all the motors however the autoleveling function is not working fine, can you please help me out to reactify this problem. If you dont mind kindly share me your conact number my number is 9740699448
hi again everyone,
I have got some updates/changes on my quad, like slightly redone frame to make it fly better, hybrid motors of emax and odin. :P ..
5g8 FPV setup with cloverleafs and spw, cheap excellence OSD, f20a escs flashed simonk (never never ever going back to stock escs ever on any multi), black paint job... lol ;). running kk2 v1.6
now i also have provision for rssi on my frsky v8 rx using made amplifier circuit taking data from the led of the rx as source for signal(installing it as soon as i find proper space).
things getting installed soon tiny 3 osd and openlrs rx and 808 #16 cam :). no gopro plans for this.
this quad is the best cheap setup i have found for myself for practicing mostly FPV flying through trees etc within 500ft radius(for safety) . i have had aprox 50 or more crashes including 1 being shot by catapult while LOS flying and a few 100-150feet free falls where it lucky fell on grass or mud. i crash every now and then. im using a 7inch monitor (no bluescreen) HMD with 2.5x reading glasses which i installed very recently, fresnel lens going in soon too. some pics attached below. i dont have any on board video as i broke my 808 keychain cam and no dvr, have only easy cap dvr but no ones got time fo that. ;D
In the third pic is quad with 2 putt putt boats gifted from VC sir when we met in his place. Thank you sir. I also met Sundaram sir in shillong, thank you sir for the great time. :)
Nice man, may its time for me to move to SimonK esc for my quad too :P i have been avoiding to flash my ESC from a long time :D
i'd say flash it. there's two worlds difference. even in the gains u can double your gains and quad wont wobble a bit.
how do you flash it? any special tools?
take 2 regular servo extensions male and female, take female side and strip the outer cover so that innner pins are exposed and the other male side u remove from the holder and connect each cable to the usb asp correspondingly to the miso mosi etc. and alfemale side align them in the escs pads accordingly. use kk tool to flash. dharmik has also done a very good tutorial in his site.http://rcsci.blogspot.in/
5.8ghz !! please tell me more about that, i want to upgrade my quad too.
5.8 is good as it doesnt interference with 2.4 or gps etc and works well, more like begineers frequency. very easy to tune without having to keep anything away from anything. i have 1.3ghz and 2.3 ghz sets also but their antennaes are too big for this quad and so far haven't had the need to use them as this is penetrating trees also pretty good. hope this helps . do use circular polarized antennaes with 5.8

Oh k thats what i have as of now, let me see when i get in a mood to do it :D
What the goods things about flashing simonk?? i am using F20A for my quad.
You can run double the gains and it will not wobble as it would with a normal esc. simonk firmware is optimized firmware for multis, it has faster reponse. it has everything preprogrammed into it, no need to tune any escs either. no LVC either as its better to loose a lipo than a quad. eventually you get a quad thats a lot more stable. :)
f20a are very easy to flash i have flashed about 16 f20a. 12 with veloci.
Pravesh, back in bangalore? Great that your got a chance to meet VC and Sundaram sir. You quad looks awesome. Got digital callipers for the antenna build. When shall we begin?
thank you and sorry veloci, not yet back to bangalore. one stop still left. coming to bangalore next friday. :)
Hi Guys,
All of you are just amazing I could not believe what I have seen through the postings. You guys are just rocking. I know how much interest and time required to do what you have done. I did one plane using Depron sheet (F-35) but even after month I am not able to find time to fit all electronics into the plane. You guys look very professional and enthusiastic in what you are doing. I got one quad copter from RCBAZAAR. But till date I could not fly the same because of my limited knowledge on control board and settings. However I am just waiting for KK2 board as suggested by Veloci I will be getting one by end of this month and I hoping to fly this once I get the KK board. Kindly let me know if all you guys are meeting at one point in Bangalore so that I can also join and learn from you people. Your help be appreciated in helping me to fly my Quad copter and programming techniques.
Thanks, have a great flying
ash3008 sir, we all shall fly together at hoskote on a weekend. ;)
Pravesh deserves your high praises sir. :)
@ash3008
thank you ash3008, Hi, the kk2 is very very easy and user friendly. hoskote is the place, veloci and friends and i have been planning a good trip to hoskote on a weekend. we can fly together, month end is good time.. we are not pros, just that this hobby makes us go crazy. ;D
@veloci
please huh .. haha. u know without your help even i wouldnt be able to fly :). thank you :hatsoff:
Pravesh, Ur pics say it all ;D
did you make your clover leaf antennas ?
or bought them, if yes please tell me a place where i can buy it for cheap!
@aditya you can get it from here (http://www.quadkopters.com/product/cloverleaf-antennas-for-5-8ghz/)
@Satya : check it out!
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__35657__5_8_GHz_Circular_Polarized_Antenna_RP_SMA_Set_.html
wow i did not know HOBBYKING also sell it. I think they start recently.
Yes, they announced it way back, but I think they just came in stock.
aditya i bought them from QK and they work fine. 5.8ghz stock antennaes can be converted to cloverleafs also ;). thank you sundaram sir for showing them to me. cut and remove the outer plastic cover and start working on the coaxial cable inside like how you would do with a normal rg316 coaxial cable.. i might give these hk ones a try but if u learn to fish you can fish your entire life and you can make for any frequency. you can experiment on it while waitng on the hk ones to arrive.

Any video??
google how to convert stock dipole to cloverleafs , i saw some online but cant remember where.
Better still to add to what pravesh said i think if you have an account in RCG just ask IBCrazy and he will point you in the right direction and he might be having a tutorial too ;).If i had this problem i would do that sir. He is an awesome person does a lot of things for the RC community and i respect him
where can i get glass fibre sheets?
local hardware areas/shops. or shops which sells nylons sheets for homes etc. in bangalore you will get in sp road. :)
They sell those green roof for houses, it that the same thing ?
no, i dont think so, its the same thing that those dji frames or regular quad frames centre plates are made of , ask the shop for glass fiber sheets. he'll show you, its light greenish color like mucous(pardon me) . GFS is kinda harder to work on.
you can also use plywood 5mm or polypropylene sheets 5mm. dont use those transparent acrylic sheets . u can also use a geometry box with reinforcements as central body. :)
I understood, thanks !
:banghead: finally she rests in pieces. :(
;D
Those are CF2812 motors? flew well?
nope. odin2210 with emax2822 bell .
Wow ur a serious modder, would like to meet you some time and gain a lot of knowledge, ever come to mumbai pravesh then pm me.
Wow man ur awesome
nothing serious bro, both types are same motors, emax has strong bell and decent winding while odin had much better winding but the worst quality bell which bent in half a crash. after i crashed through both the sets of motors, i salvaged the parts and this came up. i was lucky as it flew better than both the stock motors. ;)
I fly with CF 2822 work better
I have then on my quad, check out my post "cheap and simple quad"
yep cf 2822 is good motors. highly recommended. i destroyed 8 of those. and 4 odins2210, all damaged/destroyed in the 50 plus crashes of my quad.
Hi Pravesh bro, I saw the pic. Sorry about that. It looks like it fell from the sky. It happened with me once when I was testing my first quad. I was flying over 30-40 feet from the ground.
Hi Dharmik, this quad has survived 100 feet falls with ease, only popped a motors and bent a arm, this one was destroyed by my hands, i actually crashed while trying to go through a tree and destroyed a motor in my first battery pack of the day and out of frustration i chucked it into the same tree.
No Pravesh. That was sad. :(
yes sir , :( even i felt sad once i reached home and cooled down :giggle:,
but after convincing myself to look at the bright side it meant better design of the same thing coming up, got a new tool , i have salvaged the parts, hehe . i wasnt flying anything else because of it. now others will get a chance too. ;)
i assembled this by evening using spare homemade centre plates, new motors and salvaged parts of the broken quad
but i still miss that one.
The King is dead. Long live the King.
Pravesh, I was lucky to see the monster in flight. Happy to see you taking it in such a sporting manner. Well done! I'm sure this baby will fly even better.
Regards.
+1 :goodjob:
Good job pravesh bhai...which motors are they?
really looking good..!
Pravesh is that the new quad made?
If it is then its looking fantastice :salute:
VC Sir, thank you for the kind words. this one flies decently. Now im waiting for your hexa monster build.
Sundaram Sir, thank you sir.
Arun- these motors are 2212/13 1000kvs on 4S. thank you
satyagupta- thank you. yes its a semi new quad, lots of parts from the old one, some months back i had cut out 2 sets of TBS discovery frame centre plates at home. this is one of them.
:)
Hey what tool you used to cut those sheets?
Sent from my Canvas using tapatalk 2

That's my homemade combo tool, only for cutting frames.. Kidding bro . I used dremel
Ditto me too, i have a dremel copy which i use to cut sheets ;)
