DIY - USB Interface for DJI NAZA

                  Sharing how i made a USB interface for Dji naza. this cable can be used to connect NAZA to PC for configuration, if you don't have a LED or Power module for NAZA . This will also be helpful if you are planning to install NAZA on a mini quad, avoiding all extra weights like LED or Power modules.

   What you need :
           

  • A USB cable with Male USB head (or cut an old USB cable to get it)
  • A Servo lead (male)
  • Some heat shrink (2mm, 4mm)

           Making this was easier than I expected, although it took little time to identify the data lines by trail and error  :)
Follows with detailed instruction with pictures ....

Sorry for for delay in update .
Rastsaurabh sir, thanks for bumping the thread ! (I did forget about this) .


First of all get a USB cable with Male head (you may cut it from an old usb cable ) .
Now remove the outer sleaving of USB cable and you will find 4 wires inside ;
1) Black / Brown : this is the Ground -Ve wire .
2) Red / Brown   : This is +Ve 5V
3) Green            : USB Data -Ve
4) White            : USB Data +Ve

Wires 1 and 2 supplies power to the connected device. Wires 3 and 4 (Green and White) Are the Data lines .
The NAZA doesn't depend upon USB power (Thats why it is not being detected on PC, If you haven't connected the Main battery) So, we dont have to connect The 5V +ve line (Red or Brown wire) to NAZA .
First picture attached shows the pins used on a Naza lite for USB connection (Pins are marked .)
Second one is the pic of USB cable with wires marked. Make sure to use a cable of enough length (1 meter or more)

Now about the other end which connects to Naza, As we use only 3 wires out of 4 on USB (not using +5V line) , We can Use a Female Servo lead here , you may cut it out from a Male to Male / Male to Female / any other servo cable or extensions.

Now Solder the 3 wires of Servo lead to USB cable leads . you can cut off the Red / Brown lead from the USB cable completely.

Solder Middle wire of Servo lead (Usually Red/ Brown) to White lead (Data +Ve) of USB .
Solder the other two wires of Servo lead to Black and Green leads of USB cable in any order !!

Heatshrink each solder point separately, with a 2mm Shrink tube . After that you may Heatshrink the whole wire joints together with a 3mm or 4mm shrink tube, this way it looks neat :)

Attached pics are of the cable I made.

How to Use ;

Connect battery to your multirotor or Supply 5V to Naza with a BEC .
Connect the servo lead to the LED module connector in Naza , in the 4 pins use the 3 pins in right side (first pin from left is avoided) . Check whether the PC detects a USB device, if not , reverse the servo lead. (As in the case of connecting servo to receiver , here also no damage will occur if you connect the servo lead in reverse)

Now the PC have detected the USB device, and the Naza configuration software, shows, microcontroller o/p ; off, you are ready to go :thumbsup: .

This cable works for Naza Lite and Naza V2 (Checked and verified)  dont know about other DJI flight controllers .

Hello Sooraj,

Thanks for the information, really useful.

But can i extend the LEDs from this port if i want to have additional 2-3 dual color LEDs?
I read somewhere that the pins for LED module are from Right ( 1 ground, 2 Green LED, 3 Red LED, 4 for data Transfer)

You can surely do that easily...

Hi!

Could you describe how the connection is on the SMD LED? Well I just found the WS2812b LED with 3 inputs: DIN, 5V, GND.

yes that was my problem as well but Gunnu explained the other way.

I guess take Black and red as power and green as data in.
Even i will try and see if we get some o/p. I too now have 2812 LEDs.

From the diagram, it's clear that they use common cathode bi-color LED, so its like Black as common (Ground) , red and green are anode for red and green led's in the smd led module respectively - you might have mistaken the pins on the smd led , pls check it and connect anode and cathode pins correctly.

I am confused ....2812 led has +  - and data.

And if I use separate LED red and green then also it didn't work.

No, I am still looking for someone to show how they have done.

It seems so simple but not working for me. In video they mention they have used 2812 SMD LED ... that is a RGB led driven by Data in.

Hi guys,
I have not led module of naza.
I using led 3mm, wiring with same of picture, but when power, led of pin 1-3 light ( not blink) and led of pin 1-2 not light.
Please give me advanse.
