So i have a basic set-up with me.

X600 Frame, and other basic stuff to fly a quad.

I need to know how much does it cost to make my quad FPV capable (starting price and recommended setup price ) ?

Some points to note:
1> Any compatibilities issues ?
2> I have a 6ch TX, is it enough ?
3> By how much more does the battery consumption increase ?

SK1701

looking at FPV already? JK. Anyway, this is what I think:
1. Most FPV setups I have seen run on 5.8 GHz whereas your Tx is on 2.4 GHz so there should not be any interference. One concern is range. Your Tx should generally have greater range than your VTx unless you want to watch your quad crash in FPV  :giggle:
2. 6 channels should be OK. The real question is whether you trust your FPV stuff with a kk 2.1 and a basic radio. I suggest you upgrade to a good radio like a 9x or even better, a Taranis, that you can add a long range module to and an advanced flight controller like APM or Naza which have RTL features that can save your FPV stuff. That is what I plan to do (not sure about FPV since I have prescription glasses).
3. Not sure about this.
As for the starting price, there is a 200 mW FPV kit available with the camera, VTx and VRx from quadkopters.com for Rs. 4950. You would need to add either an LCD monitor (~3000 for 7 inch) or goggles (way more awesome!) that cost 2950 for the Quanum DIY ones and upwards of 20K for a Boscam one. A recommended setup would depend on the range you plan to fly.

parichya.gautam

Alright, i can upgrade if needed.
SO let me get this straight, things is need to upgrade:

TX/RX, Board .
1> Tx/Rx- OK,How much is the range of the FS 9ch one then (not transis, too costly )? AND the FS 9ch (costs around 6k i guess ) one should be fine ? I plan to sell my current one off then , how much should i expect it to sell ?
2> Board- Is it REALLY need to upgraded that too ? I dont get the 'saving the video' part.
3> FPV- so total spending on the FPV would be 5k for the system and 3k for the quanum ( link to it ) ?

ONE ANOTHER THING, with al the DGCA being an ass to us hobbyist, is fine to upgrade it more ?

1. The FlySky 9x is a good choice since it is modular, meaning that you can swap out the radio module for one with longer range like a 433 MHz UHF module. I guess the stock range is a bit more than a km, not really sure. The main reason I suggested a Tx upgrade is if you plan to move on to longer range FPV and advanced flight controllers. I have seen a few reports of signal dropping issues with this Tx. What I like about it is that it can be modded to offer some the features of far more expensive radios. The mods range from flashing open source firmware like er9x or OpenTx to installing a backliht to adding telemetry. I don't know how much you can sell your Tx for.
2. Why I suggested upgrading the Flight Controller is that the kk is bound to get boring. And honestly, I find the APM really cool with features like auto flips and waypoint navigation. Plus, we get it cheaper than the USA since we have abundant Chinese clones (quality varies). What I meant about saving the FPV setup is that if you are flying and then lose orientation, or start feeling dizzy or nauseous (saying this based on what I heard about the Oculus Rift, I am not completely sure), you can just flip a switch on your Tx and have the quad come back autonomously to the spot it was armed. Or you could activate loiter mode and have the quad hover in position until you get your bearings.
3. The 5K is the bare minimum for approximately 500 m of range. You might want to buy accessories like polarised antennae for better range, LiPos for your ground station and all sorts of little things. These are the goggles I was talking about: http://rcmumbai.com/index.php/product/quanum-diy-fpv-goggle-set-with-monitor-kit/ I don't know how good they are considering the price.
I don't know about the DGCA. FPV flying is controversial even in the USA from what I have seen. What I suggest is keep upgrading. Just follow every safety precaution eg. stay away from airports, don't fly over people and other such things

Well for the Tx, you can buy a flysky 9x , for less than 6000.
Price for long range module depends on what you chose, a EzUHF module and receiver costs around 15grands, but you get 20Km + range with this.

Selection of long range UHF module can be made depending on your video Tx,just make sure your Radio has more range than your Video Tx .(There are some people who say the other way is better, because, even if we lose control, we get a visual of where your quad is lying :giggle:)  . Also Telemetry is a must either on Radio or in flight controller, so that you know the flight data.

NO. that is only a FPV goggle with integrated receiver.
Let me suggest, first you can go with a simple LCD display, later you may upgrade to better FPV goggles.

Thanks for the link but I am not sure since my power is around -7. I could always try the ski goggles mod or something. Anyway, I don't plan to get into FPV anytime soon.
@parichya, if you want to just get started, get the TH9x first and maybe a better FCB (up to you). You can mod the 9x for better features. I plan to get one depending on my board exam results next month. Once you are comfortable with using them, you can then move onto FPV with a 200 mW kit that you can upgrade with circular polarised antennae. You can then move on to longer range by getting a UHF module and a more powerful FPV setup. Telemetry would be really useful and the telemetry mod for the 9x is supposedly quite difficult so you could just get a Taranis or a Turnigy 9XR with FrSky module that would help you in the long run. Another reason why an advanced FCB would help is that it can give you GPS coordinates if you lose your quad. I am not sure how feasible long range FPV with a quad is anyway, so you probably won't even need an LRS. This is considering the shorter flight time of quads and the fact that flying over populated areas is dangerous since the quad will drop like a rock if something goes wrong. A flying wing like the FT Versa Wing/ massive FT Kraken or large span pushers like the RCbazaar Parrot would be far better as long range FPV platforms.
And Sooraj, a display may be easier to start with but I think goggles would be much more fun due to the immersive experience.

sooraj.palakkad

For FPV, get 5.8GHz Video Tx and Rx (Atleast 200mW),
A camera, with RCA out put.
A display device that has RCA I/P (LCD or Goggles)

For Transmitter,
A flysky 9X or Turnigy 9Xr or Turnigy iG10
A long range UHF module and compatible receiver: http://www.rcproduct.in/combo-offers/50-open-lrs-433mhz-transmitter-1w-open-lrs-433mhz-9ch-receiver.html

And may be an upgrade to APM or DJI NAZA
RC Hobbyist and an Aerial Cinematographer..

parichya.gautam

alright, got it.

one thing, what about the FPV cameras ? how're they different from the others ?

Otherwise just a CCD camera will do :)

sooraj.palakkad

Well using a mobile onboard merely for recording purpose is unwanted added weight.
Better get a light weight DVR camera with RCA o/p (to feed to video Tx.)

with default module in a 9X radio or the FS 6Ch radio, you can get only less than a Km range.

SK1701

You could just get this instead. It has the module already installed: http://www.rcproduct.in/combo-offers/8-turnigy-9xr-9ch-transmitter-with-frsky-module-9ch-receiver-mode-2-v2-firmware-combo-offer.html What do you mean by the FPV antenna? That does not have any FPV antenna? BTW, 2-3 km with a quad? The FrSky module has a range of 1.5-2 km at the most. Will your battery last that long? And do you have enough payload capacity on your quad for the setup? What about the space needed to fly? The last thing we need is a quad crash to scare the DGCA  :giggle: ?

parichya.gautam

ok so i can start with that and then slowly upgrade ?  ( I guess ,1KM range is decent to start with XD )

SO I need a fixed list of stuff i need to buy with links to the site i can buy it from , I have NO IDEA what to buy and what does what :P

Sooraj or Sk , can you help me here ?

All i need is to have working FPV on my Quad.

I will mention the stuff that i already have so you know hat is needed.

FS CT6B Tx-Rx
X600 Frame
Turnigy Aerodrive Motors with 1kg thrust/motor and 5000mAh ZippyMax LiPo ( both recently bought, yet to be delivered)
2 spare LiPo both 2200 mAh
30A SimonK ESC from QuadKopters
KK2.1 board

Anything I missed ?
