Hi Y'all,

Just wanted to share my experience and wanted a second opinion on my latest build.

I have always hated the way my final setup looked.... No matter what I did, It'd always look like an 8 year old's science project.
After building & burning & crashing a couple of quads, my search began to procure components to build a clean FPV rig.
Let me know what you guys make of the below.

Frame: Fossil Stuff Gravity 280 (Lifetime warranty..... No kidding) & Lumenier QAV 250 (Charpu Calling...)
Controller: Seriously Pro Racing F3 & Naze32 Rev 6 (I dig SBUS)
Drive System: Cobra 2208/20 2100Kv Racing Edition (I quote Jeremey Clarkson - Powerrrrrrrrrrrr.)
ESC: KISS 30A (Overkill, you think.....?)
PDB: Atas Sphere Mini PDB Pro, Volo Mini PDB, Lumenier 4Power, Fluduino Mini PD (Option.... I like options)
Props: HQ 6045s, 6030s Bull Nose, GemFan 5030s, 5045s. (Skills Suck.... so extra props)
Lipo: Dinogy 4S HV 1500mAh 65C, Tatu 4S 1800mAh 75C, 1300mAh 4S 75C, Atas Sphere 4S HV 1850mAh 70C. (100A constant draw)

FPV Gear:
Vtx: ImmersionRC 600mW 5.8GHz.
Rx: Black Pearl Diversity (Already own)
FPV Cam: Lumenier 650TVL.
OSD: OSDOGE.
Antennae: Vtx- VAS AirScrew Race Spec; Rx- VAS Mad Mashroom.
On board flight cam: GoPro Hero 4 Black & Mobius Wide Angle.

Whadya think?

Cheers,
Sree.

Charpu ?? Seriously??I know he flies good but the other day I witnessed pravesh(pravesh736) fly.I was like charpu who??
No offence.
But take local people advice.even then you won't feel satisfied until you try it out.all the items you listed are just personal choices of few people.

@Satz flying: Thanks man! Will start building in a couple of days.

@subhashjk0508: Non Taken!!! You might have seen the cream of the crop fly but Charpu's reference was used as an anecdote and Im not replicating anyone's setup here. Like I mentioned before, Im just looking for a clean build. 40% of the components I mentioned have already been on a quad before.
What do you mean by 'take local people's advice?'  And could you please let me know who has all the items listed rigged into a single setup?

Cheers,
Sree.

I witnessed pravesh (pravesh736) fly.

Totally Agree. He has some skills

Waiting for one more opportunity to fly with Pravesh.  {:)} {:)}

Have you bought the parts yet? If not, I have a couple of suggestion:

1. Go for the RMRC Seriously Dodo instead of the SPRacing. The rev. 3 solves the problems encountered with earlier versions and there are none of those fiddly JST-SH connectors to play with. The Naze32 rev. 6 isn't going to cut it if you plan to run SBus, an OSD and BlackBox at the same time since it has only 2 serial ports. I think CleanFlight and Betaflight support have been added for the Naze rev.6 only recently. Timecop  for you :P

2. The KISS ESCs are infamous for burning up. I think the FVT Little Bee ESCs (aka MRM Zeus) are the current favourites to run Blheli. They weigh around 4 grams if I remember correctly and are supposed have performance rivalling KISS, with superior reliability. AFAIK there is no 2208 2100kv, do you by any chance mean the 2206? Even with a 6x4.5 on 4S, you willing only be pulling ~25 amps, which should be kept to short bursts for the sake of the motor and ESC. You should also take a look at some of the RCX motors from MyRCMart. They have a killer combo deal going on with the Little Bee ESCs. These motors are supposed to rival even Cobra, both in performance and since they are dynamically balanced at the factory and they make it far easier to replace the bearings/shafts.

3. I don't see any 5045 bullnose on that list? You may want to give them a try. Also check out the DAL 'unbreakable props'. Though not unbreakable, they are seriously strong and will save you props at the cost of lower thrust and efficiency.

4. If you plan to go flying/racing with others, 600mW is a bit excessive. Even on different bands, there is a chance of causing interference in their video signals. 200mW ought to be enough for most flying, especially with a good antenna. Instead of going for overpriced Lumenier stuff, why don't you check out the Sony PZ0420 or RunCam PZ0420M? I've heard they are really good.

Otherwise, this is a really good parts list. You should get some serious performance with this baby. All the best

@Sreeraj- i would go for 2206 2100kv cobra for power, with 6045. 2208 is fine too but almost same performance while being heavier.
Go for the hs1177 600tvl camera, better than the 650.
All the best, and since ure from Bangalore also u can come and race/practise with us in hoskote weekends.
@Sundaram Sir- even I hope to fly with you and param again. :)

@satz flying- my flying is not as good as they said.
But if u want to see, i have some vids from 2013/14 in utube before dgca oct dump.

Sorry for the late reply guys.... was a little occupied with boring life related stuff.

@SK1701: Thanks for the laborious inputs man.
Hers's my take on things....

1) I hear ya buddy!!! My Dodo is on it's way from dronematters. Still my preference happens to be the Naze since I can stack the OSDoge & avoid the cluttering. I don't think I'll be running the blackbox anytime soon. I think im gonna stick the dodo into my fossil stuff gravity 280.

2) I've been running the Kiss 18's for over six months now on a Chinese clone & I haven't had any problems with it. I think more than half the problems people are reporting is due to either a bad soldering job or incompatible setup. I could be wrong you know?!
Wonder how the quality control on the little bees are? Have had really bad experience with DYS BLHeli 30's. Would you believe if I told ya 3 out of 5 were faulty out of the pack? For my next build Im inclined to go for the Rotorgeeks RG20s or the little bees. What do you think?
And yea, I meant the 2206 (Sorry for the typo).
RCX you say huh? My next set of outrunners!

3) I've got quiet a few 5045's, so didn't add them to the list.

4) My 200mW was made into a kabab by my buddy who accidentally connected to the source without the antenna. Went for the 600mW to check what kind of range I can get.
I understand that there are cheaper cams which'll work just as well or better in fact compared to the overpriced Lumenier 650, but the Lumenier cam fits good with the stock QAV250 without additional modifications.

@pravesh736: Many thanks for your comment!
Sub'd to your channel! Good flying skills broda!
And yeah, Cobra 2206 it is with 6045s!

Sadly though I've procured all the components for the build!

Yea, Im from namma Bangalooru but I work in Iraq bro. I visit once every 3 months. Next time around I'll let you know. If both our schedule permits, we'll create a worm hole in hoskote. What say?

Thanks again for sharing your views guys. I appreciate it much!

And here's some pics...

1. Cool! Let me know how you like the Dodo. I decided to go for a Naze32 myself as a temporary measure. Development seems to be moving toward STM32F4 based boards (like the OP Revolution and Sparky 2) rather than F3 boards (Dodo and SPRacing) which don't have much of an advantage over F1 boards. I will wait until I am confident flying my racer and the Betaflight port is stable and then I will upgrade to a Revo clone board. BTW, which version of the Naze are you running?

2. I've heard a lot of stories of burning KISSs though if they work well for you than all is good. I've heard several bad stories about the DYS ESCs, with one production batch known for spontaneously combusting though those were the 20A ones. I've not heard of any issues with dud Little Bees. I got my set this Monday but i am waiting on a little more stuff until I can test them. I also have got my set of RCX H2205 2633kv motors. They should be pretty powerful on a 5-inch prop setup. however, they've hiked the price (temporarily I hear) so they may not be as good a deal.

EDIT: I also forgot to add. I would hold off on the Little bee/ RG20A for now. They come with a slower F330 chip (at least the Little Bee does and I think RG20A does too), which limits thrust at high RPMs. I have seen sub-100 looptimes on RCGroups, meaning that even the Oneshot protocol will no longer be adequate. There is a thread on an experimental protocol called Multishot, which will only work on F39x based ESCs like the HobbyWing XRotors. However, the Xrotor series are big and heavy and also difficult to flash with BLheli. There is a user on RCgroups who is planning to sell lighter version of these ESCs that come pre flashed with BLHeli. However, they are not available on his website (ggracers.com) yet.

The build looks to be going well. All the best. Please do let me know how the Dinogy and Tattu LiPos compare. i was going to buy Dinogy but I heard the Tattus are better. I would like to know your opinion too.

Let us know the next time you're in Bangalore. I should have my racer done by then so we can try to meet up

PS: nice workbench  ;)

Sreeraj

Im planning to pre order the revo nano. Wanna play with the dodo first though. I've got Rev 5 and 6 but I'll be sticking the full version rev 5 into this build.

I almost burnt one of my cobras trying to calibrate the DYS esc.
After your suggestion I was browsing through myrcmart and the RCX 1950kv caught my attention. Looks good at $10 a pop.... All in!
Let me know how your build goes with the RCX's.

How ironic I should say.... I just received a mail from rotorgeeks saying that they can make an exception shipping to Iraq. I ship all my stuff to Iraq since there is no practice of collecting custom duty in the country no matter what you order.

Your're right, Both RG20A & Little bees run F330s. Im planning to but the RG20 simply because I don't wanna sit idle if my Kisses burn up or something.
Plus I cannot quiet possibly wrap my head around getting the loop time down any further than what proven protocols we have already. Isn't there a mechanical latency that cannot be overcome no matter how fast the electronics communicate? But never the less, Multishot looks promising though!

My pick would be the Dinogy over Tattu simply because it has the G10 cover plate on the top & bottom (I crash a lot).
I've got the Atas Sphere High Voltage pack, Luminear, Tattu and Dinogy packs, all 4S. Will complete my build and give you a comparison.
Oh yeah, if you can get your hands on SMC or Revoelectrix lipos, that'd be the best!

I'll be flying down in Feb brah. Will ping you sometime. Maybe we can catch up and do some flying.

Cheers,
Sree!
