So the G10 must be much more stiff (and heavy) for the same thickness, right?

satyagupta

it indeed is very stiff but not very heavy, but it would be slightly heavy than acrylic sheet

What material would you recommend for a quad frame (other than the G10, that is) ?

Swapnil

@Satya

Dharmik mentioned 'carbon fibre'. How does it differ from glass-fibre in terms of weight, stiffness and cost?
I'm hoping to start designing a quad frame, but I'm not familiar with the afore-mentioned materials.

satyagupta

hmm you can go with the acrylic or thin MDF/Plywood or like dharmik bro did you can use the exam pad.

For my very first quad i used 5mm plywood, was pretty heavy had to cut lot of parts out of it.

I wanted a CNC cut frame from you. What I'm trying to ask is, which is the best material you can provide in terms of stiffness, weight and cost.

satyagupta

this is a glass fiber: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_fiber using this fiber a sheet is made and using several layers glued with resin, glass fiber plate are made. Number of sheets vary depending on the thickness of the plate.

Similarly this is carbon fiber: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_(fiber) and using layers of such sheets glued with resin, Carbon Fiber plate are made.

Glass fiber is good and cheap compared to Carbon fiber.

Carbon fiber are very expensive but at the same time they are very sturdy, stiff and light weight

If you have limited budget then go with glass fiber they are 60-70% cheaper than carbon fiber

I just need drawing of the cutting in dwg or dxf format and i will get it cut. If you want i can send you a estimate pricing just drop a mail to webmaster(at)quadkopters.com with your drawing and thickness of the sheet that you want.

Thank you! I knew what they are, just never worked with them.

Looks like CF is the best option. Could you pm me an approximate cost of the frame Dharmik ordered but in carbon fibre?

Dharmik

Hi Swapnil bro please have a look at this thread regarding the most cost effective flat stock? Fiberglass? G10? ABS? Other?

Swapnil

Dharmik, thank you for the link. Looks like G10 is the most favoured material. I'll go for that.

Hello all,
i have assembled my G10 glassfibre frame received from Satya bro today. i see huge improvements now. it's stiff and sturdy. please have a look at the snaps i got today. planning to install align landing skids but they are bit on heavy side compare to old one. will perform first test flight soon.

Dharmik

After using KK2 for more than 2 years and CC3D on my mini quad Hunter. I have decided to go one step ahead. Now i have plan to test one of the most advanced board APM. I had to made some changes to mount APM on my xtremeX frame, some drilling, cutting and dampening and now it is allmost ready. Detailed review will be posted for CC3D and APM.

Dharmik

Tested APM few days back in stabilize mode. I see huge difference between KK2 SL mode and APM stabilize mode. I am really excited to test other modes.

Dharmik

Loiter mode tested as well and it works fine, however due to very small street it was bit roaming in 1m tolerance. I will upload video soon. Here are some snaps

FPV QuadCopter - Boat Filming
Last year i went to my friend's house which is just near the river Narmada. We had a great day filming over the river. In this footage we saw the boat coming towards us, we quickly flew quad over there to grab it in the frames. I was flying LOS and when i landed quad i found that i forgot to switch on the SJ1000. That was a LOL moment. We missed nice footage and battery ran out of juice hovever we got it from the ground from the phone.

My Xtreme quad got new FC NAZA M lite. Here is the test video of GPS position hold. Still some tweaking needed with gain setting

Dharmik

one more test video. same gain just slightly lowered.
