ARF Quad Kit from Quadkopters

I am finally completed the build\assembly of the kit. Thanks Satya Gupta of Quadkopters, i had issues with motor and LiPo and he promptly replaced it. Posting a short video of indoor testing. Just a small take off, the quad still needs tuning as it drifts towards right and the prop came off, need to be tightened.

Prop came off,  i hadnt tightened it enough. I found the the prop adapter and prop intact. Quad still flys but has a bias towards right.

If nothing is damaged then correct the drift with sub trim in your tx.
and please do not test the quad indoors

Thanks Ashok for the reply. Which sub trim do you think will help. I already check the yaw\rudder subtrim, also will the D/F on Tx cause this issue. I had to set the Df at 95% so that the quad arms by the yaw\rudder stick.

Compensating accelerometer(acc) drift via radio stick trims is not a good idea in my opinion, its like two people are trying to drive a vehicle at the same time. It may get the job done but there will always be some amount of uncertainty.

You can adjust the acc trim for roll/pitch on the Radio itself to adjust drift in case of multiwii lite FC.
If quad is drifting to 'right', land the quad, disarm it, move the throttle to max and move the roll stick to the opposite side of the drift that is 'left' in this case. As you do that, the blue LED will blink to confirm each ticks on the FC. Each time it flashes, it increases/decreases the PID by one point. After its done bring back the throttle to the lowest position, arm the quad and test new settings. You can repeat it as many times as you want.

If the quad still drifts after stable takeoff, then its due to vibrations, try to mount the board on foam instead of screwing it onto the frame. I did the same and it helps a lot.

I hope you know the propeller mounts on the motors too are CW/CCW in case of this ARF, hence you would also need to make sure to set them up as we do with props, if that's not the case then its probably due to loose nut.

I did some more tuning today. Was able to control well indoor but when I flew it out I couldn't control it well. I crashed it and broke a prop. I will post some video tomorrow.

its very small so a lil breeze will drift it away when you fly outdoors please be very careful when people are around

THanks Chintal. Is plastic props also that dangerous?
Ordered some spare props, should get it by Wednesday.

SideWinder - how did you use the foam? Did you put the foam on fram and then mounted the FC on foam and frame?

This is the video for indoor testing, is it stable? After take off it tends to go in one direction. Its not take off and hove.

Okay, your quad looks pretty stable to me in terms of roll/pitch PID, you just need to trim acc to reduce the drift and autolevel PID's. Altho please note that your quad wont stay rock stable, there will always be some amount of drift until and unless you use gps. Similarly its easy to lose orientation in quads so flying skills are really important :)

Just put the foam on all four sides of the board with double sided tape, it doesnt matter whether you fix the foam on FC or frame, have attached a pic on how I did it. You can also mount the FC on a single piece of foam(avoiding the protruding pins) if you prefer.

Props spinning at thousands of rpm are dangerous, a 10" will leave a deep cut and can effectively kill a human if it strikes at the right spot. So its necessary to take precaution every time you fly anything.

Thanks SideWinder. I will try some more tuning. Right now waiting for new props and checking if i can mend the broken prop.

That will surely be a worst idea,
save your broken ones for a souvenier and buy some new props.
use foam tape, you will feel the difference for sure.

I got the the new props and the quad is flying well now.
How to tune the acc PID. In the Mutli Wii GUI, i dint see anything labelled as acc PID. Level is set as 9, taking it higher is good?
I have to get the foams still and planning to pad the landing stand with foam too. My landing is still a bit hard.

There is no acc PID as such, you can just calibrate the acc to reduce the drift on any sides, or trim after calibrating by the method I posted earlier. Level is Autolevel PID, you can take it higher or lower as per your wish and style of flying. To better understand PID read http://www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php?title=PID

You can use foam on landing spacers too, you will have to use a thick piece of foam, otherwise they would keep breaking irrespective of the foam, or use the smaller spacer and then foam it up. Its up to you, you can improvise as per your needs.

Use smiley balls, they take impact like mother earth,
available at just 15 rupees and it adds a little look to the copter.

I have put foam for landing and used metal screw for the base plate. When i crashed couple of time, the base nylon screw would come loose. Later I found the nylon screw are not tight, the thread may have worn off. You could simply pinch and apply force to remove them. Now the quad flyies indoor with good slability. I will fly in a near by park for testing. Note this stability is in auto level mode.
