Title: led on quad
Post by: Darshan for multirotors on July 03, 2015, 08:55:45 AM
Hey
I have a 250 quad and want to put leds on it
Kindly suggest led and the method to power them up
Should I directly connect it to the battery?or I need a separate battery for this?
Just tell me where to connect it cause I am using a harness but I have a Pdb so I can use it too
Please explain me the basics of putting leds
Thanks

Dont add extra battery man, already 250 size quads are very tight on weight and adding separate lipo would increase the weight.

I use jst to power led from common power supply

Yes you can use it with 12V supply, everybody use it with 3S lipo

I have a long strip of led with me but it doesn't have a jst
How can I connect it to the harness?
I can use pdb but I have already got everything on for the harness so
But if there is no way out then I will use pdb

Thats DIY, dont use a very long strip. I think min 3 led needs to be in a strip. so cut the strip and connect the wire (solder it) and solder the other end to the pdb or the balance connector of your lipo.

How to connect led to lipo is some DIY

Okay so in short I will have to do for a pdb
Thanks

I was thinking about something -
What if I plug the +ve wire and -ve wire directly in the fc.
Can the bec power the leds?

No, bec out is 5v while led strips run straight on 12v

So does that also mean that if the battery voltage is below 12 v the leds would stop working?

That Led s should work between 10 to 13 Volt but some brightness variation occur s that's all.

Ok thanks but I don't think it's practically possible to put a pdb on this frame
I think I will have to chuck this idea of adding leds

Darshan, why don't you just add a jst plug in the output of the battery. So the existing plug will power your quad and the added jst will power your leds. Just need to cut 2 wires, solder them and use some heat shrink. No need to add any pdb.
