Hi,
I've built my 1st quad today.
The configuration is
Rctimer 1000kv motors and  30 amps Simon K firmware ESCs.
Turnigy 9x radio

I'm using the NAZE32 board as flight controller.

http://abusemark.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=30&zenid=cf68b5d329f427e577a95f43cd777ba7

The quad has been completely assembled .
But the motors are behaving weird.
Some don't spin when throttle is applied and start spinning if there is some sort of disturbance(when i try tilting the quad) i.e they are jittery.
I tried calibrating the board ( I'm using multiwii 2.0) and individually calibrated the ESCs( No problem here.Had to trim to some extent).
I think there is a problem with the board calibration.
I can't figure out what the problem is.
Please help me out.
I really need help to complete this as it is my college project.
Thanks in advance.

hello shehwar, check the movement of virtual quad in multiwii gui(removing props).did you edit the config.h file for your sensors? try changing minthrottle value in config.h,so that all motors start at same time

Shehwar

the quad works fine in the GUI.
But when i give throttle one of the motor doesn't work.
But when i apply a bit of yaw, it starts spinning normally.
And how exactly do i edit the file ???
More over how will i compile it once i edit.
Sir, i don't mean any disrespect, but this is my FIRST QUAD BUILD.
Even though i have ample information and resources in electronics, this field is completely new.
Can you suggest a compiler for this controller???

friend,i don't know about naze32 board.i thought it was arduino based
there is a discussion thread on multiwii forum.
http://www.multiwii.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2387
try recalibrating those simonk esc.(throttle calibration).
and also your radio channels should have range from 1000 to 2000 on the GUI.

I know about that thread.
but no one there seems to reply to my problem. :'(
Any way, now the motors seem to be working fine after ESC recalibration.
Actually the problem was that the trim values were set too low.
But now the quad is responding very sharply to throttle.
I don't know why.
I'll try changing the PID values.

no,i don't have that board.i am looking to buy any board with 10 dof.so just asking

Shehwar

Actually its a good board, and cheap too.
There have been successive builds with it, you can check youtube.
But i don't know why it's giving me such problems ???
Anyway let's see....How it turns out....
(pray for the better.)

Shehwar

After this, i reflashed the ESCs but the problem still persists.
can someone please help.
Saurabh sir suggested the motors MIGHT be disbalanced and that i should change them.
Even so, i have already spent too much and would like to make the replacement as cheap as possible as this is a college project and not for myself.

wil these motors will work ??

It looks like a PID tuning / gain settings problem. Seems like some gains are too high. How much have to experimented with tuning the PID values ?
Hangar : Please see my introduction.
RC India forum and me : About this forum.

Shehwar

Yes i did.
I changed the gain settings on my board a lot of times and did the PID tuning test according to the thread on rcg
I've now switched to the KK lcd board and its still the same. the quad still pulses without any reason.
i changed the motors to the turnigy air 900Kv motors.
still same effect... :'( :'( :banghead: :banghead:
I was thinking that i'd rather change the frame (as there are a lot of vibrations which make me think it's weak)than the motors by building an Al-frame myself.

@anwar sir will these work fine ??

have you set the update rate of your ESC's  you have to set it to the lowest and hence that oscillation.  Is there a way you can set it to the max  of say 400 hz?  I have mine set to 400 Hz since I am using simon flashed esc

atulrajguru9

one of the reason of vibration is imbalance prop & loos motor mount.

The props have been balanced using a magnetic balancer and the motors directly fit on the frame. Should i consider changing the motors or rather go for building another Al frame ?

thanks,

I agree with Anwar as it seems PID setting problem. If not a PID setting problem then may be because of any one below.

You have to use same ESC calibration setting for all four ESCs. Please use accelerated startup, not the smooth startup. It also happens because of one ESC having been calibrated with a slightly diff setting than the others.

Hope you have used vibration dampening foam for mounting the FC, and it has been mounted in correct orientation and not at an angle and the frame is symmetrically identical.

the ESCs have been calibrated using the standard method on a kk board by pressing 1st and4th buttons.

Ummm.....i've used double sided tape for mounting the board....  :-\ ???
and i measured the frame from end to end it's identical.

Thanks for the advice.

I believe that is for the KK Board for simultaneous startup of all the Motors.

You have to calibrate the ESC's Independently connected to motor and Battery using The Radio/programming card (depending on your ESC) for Type of startup, timing, braking, number of poles and .........  and the parameters selected for each entry has to be identical for all the ESC.

I meant by "symmetrical"and "Orientation" was that weather the FC board has been mounted askew to the center lines or in line with the center lines, and that the frame has to be an exact mirror image on either side of the center lines of the FC board front to back and left to right with the FC on the CG of the copter.

Dharmik

I saw the video. As you said you have replaced FC and motors as well, I think it's prop. Their weight have huge difference causing pulse even they have been balanced separately. Get good quality props. It might resolve your issue.

Shehwar

I replaced the motors and used the SAME props on a friend's motors.
it flew almost flawless.
Still have that stupid random pulsing once in a bluemoon..... :banghead: :banghead:
but infinitely lesser than what unstable mayhem it was before...  :giggle:
anyway i've decided to give it a try again with my motors and if it still behave the same way, i'll be replacing them with turnigy 2830 1000kv from HK.
