Hi all,

I am quite a newbie here and this is my first quadrotor build.

My quadcopter parts are as follows:

1000kv 13T brushless A2212 motors,
30A ESC (Not branded)
KK2.1.5 board,
Frame : Self Built
10" *4.5 props.

Battery : 3 cell battery with a maximum discharge current more than 60A (Atleast that's what is said by the seller; We got our batteries custom made)

I have checked all the ESCs and corresponding motors by directly connecting the signal cable of the ESC to the throttle channel on the receiver with the above mentioned battery. All are working satisfactorily individually.

When we connect all the four ESCs to the KK2 board and accordingly give power to all of them in parallel with the same battery, the KK2 board refuses to start. The battery outputs 11.95V. It first strikes if battery is at fault, but in my opinion, if the battery can sustain a motor at full throttle, it should be able to give enough current to make sure that KK2 starts up.? Correct me if I am wrong.

When we give power to the KK2 board externally with a lipo battery, the KK2 starts up normally. The ESCs beep but after calibration beeps, none of the motors spin. I have tried to calibrate the ESCs by holding the 1&4 buttons and carrying out the process, as suggested by many, but what I have noticed is that the motors spin when we are still holding the 1&4 buttons and stop immediately when we release the buttons.

I have tried arming and disarming the KK2 board but to no success. The motors just wouldn't spin even if the KK2 was armed or disarmed.

And also any help to ascertain the properties of the battery other than voltage would be greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful.

Attached are the pics attached of my quadcopter.

Also If there is anyone from Mumbai, Maharashtra who has made a quadrotor or has experience in the same; kindly PM me so that I may bring the model to you which might be more convenient than posting on this forum.

Thank you

@praveench,
Welcome to the forum.
First three suspects (despite your not wanting comments on voltage!):
1. Battery not fully charged to say 12.5-12.6v
2. Capacity inadequate (despite 60A claim, as size/mah not mentioned)
3. Buttons 1&4 released too soon, leading to cancellation of calibration procedure.

I suspect #3, or all three of the above.
By tomorrow i expect you'll get many replies.
Best of luck.
Regards.

Can be what kk Iyer sir is saying
Try calibrating escs separately through the receiver might solve the problem of motor nor spinning up
And for the powering up of the board .. have you disconnected any wire of the esc if yes I think you have disconnected the bec wire which practically powers everything

@praveench

First of all check all the ESC's bec individually with multimeter whether is giving 5v or not.
KK borad's output/ motor pin has designed in such a way that 1st motor pin powers up 2nd one , 2nd motor pin powers up third on and so on. if any motor pin you will miss the next all motor pins will not power up. So 1st check any esc whose bec is giving 5v and put it into 1st motor pin of kk board so that it will power up. If it's not then there might some problem with board.

Secondly after putting all the esc if your board is powering up but not able to arm , then you should focus on yam trimming. Because every control board for arming requires zero throttle value and more than 1900 yaw value. So try to adjust your yaw trim button and try to arm.

For KK2.1.5 you can not do esc calibration because if you will try to hold 1 and 4 th button it show you throttle passby. In kk2.1.5 esc are pre configured. But still you want to calibrate your esc for simultaneous start up you have to do manually one by one.

For your battery: it is giving maximum discharge rate of 60A. If your single motor consuming maximum 30 A, So according to  calculation all 4 motors will require max of 30x4= 120A. Probably your battery is giving less amount of current for all 4 motors. In this case your battery might buldge.
