Been eyeing these Air-Rikshaws for a while and finally built one for myself  ;D

Used David's v 2.5 design ( http://rcexplorer.se/projects/2011/09/the-tricopter-v2-5/ ) but materials used are a bit different. Mine is an all wood frame ( 10mm booms and 3mm lite ply). It flew very nice and people at the field loved it. I would like to call her Alien Tri  :giggle: ( the Hiller Canopy that was lying around for a while is probably the reason for the name). Video will be uploaded tonight or by tomorrow. Few pics being attached of the build and completed one.

FC: OpenPilot CC3D
Motor: Emax 2822 1200kv
ESC: Plush 18A
Prop: 8x4 (CW and CCW Setup)
Battery: 2200 3s

Edit: AUW with battery was 751gm

You are using CC3D, ! How is this flight controller While comparing to KK2 or Multiwii ?

Nice  ..How much flight time did you get with that battery?

samlikespad

First and Second Flights :

Thanks Nilharsh, Sooraj and Phanivyas :)

I haven't tried multiwii, but between KK and cc3d, I prefer cc3d as its super smooth. I may not be the right one to judge these things as I am mostly into planes :D . I got around 5min on Turnigy/Nanotech batteries while I got a solid 7min on Thunderpower 2.2 and the pack was 11V once landed.

sooraj.palakkad

Heard so much good reviews about CC3D, that's why I asked, even the price is low in International stores (I think very few or No LHS stocks it) .
Stable flight

What about the initial setups of CC3D ? Is it beginner friendly Like KK2 ?

Even though Multywii is a powerful platform, what it lacked is Easy setup, those who don't have some knowledge in micro controllers and programming finds it hard to setup But once setup, Multywii surely Is the best in this class. :)

Did you done any PID settings or is it flying with default values ?

Very good sir,
What is the appropriate cost under this one

@Sooraj: It flew crappy with default settings and had a difficult time keeping it in one place (especially the tail). I did a bit or PID tuning which took like half hour all together. Once done (dialing the roll/Pitch KDs,KPs and KIs a bit), its silky smooth. And remember, I am a beginner when it comes to Helis and Multies :) .

I have tried both KK and cc3d on my quad and cc3d was slightly better in my opinion.

@nilharsh: dear, the wood came free :D thanks to a colleague. Other than that pretty much everything is from HK ( cc3d, emax 2822 1200kv, HK S331 Servo, Plush 18A, 8x4 props, etc)

sooraj.palakkad

Yeah, I will definitely try a CC3D (When I gets some money)  It's like 17$ In Ebay  8-)

Can you please shed more light on the Yaw mechanism ,
What is that material ?

Hi Sooraj,

I used exactly the same setup used by David in his build ( http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=8432&aff=61689 ) and a Tunigy Servo directly attached to it. I might change the servo to a better one soon. Just used what was lying around for the maiden flights. The build is super simple and you find the build info here http://rcexplorer.se/projects/2011/09/the-tricopter-v2-5/

I could take some pics of mine if you wish.

sooraj.palakkad

Thanks, But those steering mounts or something, Looks like I have to find alternatives for that, anyway, I got he basic idea. Thanks

samlikespad

They are front seering mounts for planes :) I think anything similar should work. I included it in one of my orders to HK so by the time i was done with the build it arrived. If I were there, i could have given you one or two.

sooraj.palakkad

Oh that's so kind of you, thanks.
I will try finding something similar .

Dear Manish, thanks for your suggestions but hope you could do your advertisements in the vendor/supplier designated threads. It was not that tough for me to cut two center plates and 3 square dowels with a handsaw. And my finished frame is equal or less in weight compared to even the V3 on rcexplorer.

No dear, I didnt mean to offend you. But was a bit worried about the continuity of this thread as I am not done with the model yet. I built this tri for FPV (unfortunately its with Saudi Customs now  :banghead: )  Intend to source it again through other channels and do FPV.

Prashant_G

Nice build sir  :goodjob: want to see yaw mechanism, if close image is available.

Thanks dear :)

Since my FPV set was held by local Customs, just placed an order at QK to our Hyderabad Office. I might visit soon and will be able to bring it myself :D
