Much better choice of electronics
I fly a Tbs Discovery (which is similar to your frame) with the SS-980kv motors on 3s & 4s. AUW with 4200 3s 20c, 9" props, gimbal/SJ4000 cam, 600mw vtx is 1562g and I get 8min comfortable flying time.

gunnu

with my previous motors ( turnigy multistar 2212 920kv) i get almost 14 mint flight time (3s 4400mAh battery and 1045 props)
today ill test with (4s 5000mAh battery and 1045 props and emax 2216 motors)

ashimda

Maybe 9" on 4s would be a safer bet. You could try 10" but keep an eye on motor temps.

gunnu

as per emax prop chart (thrust chart) for 2216 810kv they recommend max. prop size is 11'' and min. 10'' they didn't mention 9'' anywhere with 810 kv motor.. i test these props on my behalf..

gunnu

yup you can charge any lipo between 1S-6S with charger..

Sorry I thought you were talking about the multistar 2212 920kv.

How does one figure out the customs when buying from outside sites ?. Does it get shown when placing the order or we will only know when shipping company delivers the item ?. Any insights as to what is the usual customs duty to be paid on motors, esc and other quad/plane parts?

gunnu

@paithal32 do a little search and you will find everything...

I did the following calculation, appreciate if veterans can verify:

For SunnySky 2212 980kv motor
- with 1047 prop, for 3S lipo, current is 13.2 A
- ESC should be atleast 13.2 * 1.3= 17A
So 20A ESC should be fine
- lipo should discharge continuously 17A or more
   Then a 1000mAh with 20C will discharge (1000*20/1000) 20 A

Edit: considering 4 motors (as corrected by Sooraj)
13 * 4 = 52 A then lipo should be at least 2200mAH * 25C = 55A

Any idea how to calculate the time at 100% motor usage?
Here is approximate calculation with constant current draw of 13A from 2200mAh LiPo will get ( 2200mAh /1000) / 13A = 0.1692 x 60 = 10.15 minutes flying time.

sooraj.palakkad

There is a little error in your calculation for lipo - you have considered LiPo for only a single motor ??? !!

Well you need atleast 2200mAh 25C or higher for a few minutes of flight time .

Good catch @Suraj and thanks.
So does that mean (20*4) 80A required? then it would require a bigger lipo than 2200mAH 25c ?
Or if we go with (13*4) 52A, then 2200mAH 25C (55A) should do.

ashimda

Isn't the 13amps you stated for 100% throttle?  Since we rarely fly our quads with full throttle, I'm guessing 20-25 amps for hover
(4 motors). If I'm right 2000mah 20c lipo equals 40amps which should manage or 5000mah 10c = 50amps will do as well.
Then again I could be wrong.

v2 eagle

A wild guess would yeild you around 6-9mins, better setup can get you around 13mins with 2200mah 3s lipo.

You are right Sir.
Here is approximate calculation with constant current draw of 13A from 2200mAh LiPo will get ( 2200mAh /1000) / 13A = 0.1692 x 60 = 10.15 minutes flying time.

Again my friend you are considering the current draw by only one motor. !!!

The 13A is the max. current draw by your motor (At full throttle.) so the highest current draw of your quad can only be 13 x 4 = 52 Amps - but the fact is you don't have to get a LiPo that can yield these much current at all as we don't fly at full throttle - still getting a LiPo that exceeds the max. possible current draw is good because you won't wear out that LiPo quickly, even if you fly at full throttle .

For your setup , a 2200mAh 25C LiPo is enough, it also has a safety margin of 3Amps - with this battery, even if you continuously fly at full throttle :giggle: you can still expect a whooping 1.15min flight time !!!! (considering current draw at full throttle = 50Amps !! ))

Edited the post due to wrong calculated figures :banghead:

Right @Sooraj Sir, but how did you get 49A? 13*4 = 52?

sooraj.palakkad

Ooh ! man, so people are right, i am bad at mathematics sometimes - messed it up while calculating in mind (hah lost a 3 somewhere!!) :banghead:

Thanks for finding it, and bad of me that, i didn't reread my post .

Now what a mess, all that post is with wrong figures, can I have the privilege to edit it ? :giggle:

I got my flysky FS-CT6B today  :) and looking for any links/pointers to set it up and configure it for quadcopter.
Thanks

And got my kk 2.1.5  (:|~

jsquadman

The KK 2.1.5 came with 1.6 firmware version, do I need to upgrade it? Or good to go?

ashimda

You can use it as it is but you could flash a custom FW like the RC911.

@ashimda thanks sir.
Anyone tried flashing the KK firmware using arduino ?
