Hi friends......
I have been working on my tricopter recently and noticed an awkward problem:-

When i throttle up till 50% only motors M2 and M3 work but not the motor number M1(no. M1 is being used to give power to the board and rx), only after applying 50%+ throttle the motor M1 starts spinning.......

can anyone please help me out with this asap ,please.... ???
:thanks:

It sounds similar to the problem where ESC works till 50% and then shuts down. Have you tried recalibrating the throttle end points?

ESC calibration as said by Swapnil bro, is what you need.

The calibration is basically teaching the ESC the range of thrust (lowest and highest power to give the motors so to say). It will assure equal motor startup later on. The ESC calibration must be done using the same radio system that will be used on the quadrotor and done individually for each ESC. To do the calibration on the follow the given steps:

  • Connect the ESC to the throttle channel of the receiver. Have a motor connected to the ESC as the motor will provide beeps necessary to hear the calibration steps. DO NOT attach the propeller or anything else to the motor; simply have the motor connected to the ESC.
  • Turn on the radio and put the throttle stick to maximum position.
  • Now connect the ESC to the battery.
  • The motor should beep a 1 2 3 beep followed by two short beeps. Immediately after the two short beeps, put the throttle stick down all the way, the motors should make 3 short beeps (representing the 3 cells of the battery) and then finally make a 1 long beep, indicating that the throttle range has been set (calibrated).

no its not related to the esc as when i connect it to a different channel it works properly...
I am using a HK KK multi rotor boardd V2.1

which transmitter are you using? Are you flying on heli mode?
Check your servo range settings for elevator channel.

prateek,
is ur issue solved??

same happens wit me....
i m also using turnigy 9x...
any 1 of the three motor starts after about 20% throttle...

at about 30% all start but any 1 (the same which started late of other) goes slow..

at 50 % every thing goes normal... at 60-70 it takes off... but need to balance roll and pitch manualy... ie if front the back motor goes high (like in my post http://www.rcindia.org/self-designed-diy-and-college-projects/tricopter-setup-help!!!/ ) need to set elevator backwards....

once struggling with this it flies in air n all is ok then....

till landing every thing goes smooth as it should...

i tried calibrating the esc hundred times!!!! even tried calibrating individually...
but while calibrating (making yaw pot to min) when calibrating done "before" re connecting power, all motor moves with ease with same speed n starts all at same time...

but on reconnecting n setting yaw back to previous setting same prob starts!!!
there is some other problem i guess
:banghead:

Probably it's SS series esc(i don't know if you are using them). They are useless for multirotors due to refresh rate.

Try identifying where is the problem. Exchange ESC and channels one by one and see if the problem sticks with the ESC or motor or with the board.

ESC calibration as said by Swapnil bro, is what you need...

Are you sure we need to do it individuality?  I am facing similar problem and manual says i need to do it when all ESC are connected to the board.

Thank you,

Hey guys
I know this is  a stupid question but just asking. What will happen if the yaw servo is not put in a tricopter?

Your tricopter will start spinning as soon as it lifts off, and you will have no yaw control

Ved Sir, Prateek Sir,I want to build a tricopter too..If you could possibly provide the details of your tricopter and the materials you are using,it would be of great help.

Sir, thank you for for replying, due to my semester exams I have not proceeded much with the project.I have bought some materials for the tricopter. They are :

1. 3 Turnigy BLDC Motors, 750 kV, 800 gm thrust each.
2. 3 HobbyKing 25 Amp ESCs
3. Turnigy LiPo, 2200 mAh, 25 C
4. Turnigy Charger for LiPo Battery above
5. Gold connectors, servo wires, xt60 connector
6. HK Multirotor control board v2
7. AVR programming card

The radio system and servo is left.. I have made the airframe based on RCEXPLORER design, the same..used hollow square aluminium channels for the arms. The weight of the frame is 300 gms. I do not understand the use of a SIMULATOR. Can it be used instead of a Radio System? Was zeroing in on  the FlySky 6 ch radio system, nothing cheaper is available! But I am complete new to this world, this would be my first build and first flying around. So if a SIMULATOR makes it easier, should I go for it? A 4 ch SIMULATOR would do Sir?  And was thinking of using 9 g Analog Metal Gear Servo..It would be very kind of you if you could throw some light in these areas and whether my list of materials is ok..Am desperate to continue with the project now that you have shown me some light.
Thank you,
Monika.

U cannot use a simulator as radio.. simulator is a virtual training area for any kind of vehicle(as like a video game)..
u can go for a fsct6b from rc bazzar for  :Rs:2000 which is the cheapest one in market..
dont know much about tricopter yaw control servo.. but i think you need a much more powerful servo with metal gear about 3 kg pulling strength..

also find a way to control the yaw.. as you didnt bought the steering arm as per the rcexplorer build thread..
by the way what you have used for the frame? that black board? and how you cut it?  :headscratch:
all the best..
do update the status  (:|~

That is fibre glass Sir, 3 mm thick..looks nice!  :) This is a college project, and I am lucky to have few great guys involved in this project..they got it cut out from a local furniture shop...And about the yaw, actually was planning to improvise a way of constructing it,rather than using it readymade..Flysky 6 ch radio system is what on my mind..
Thank you,
Monika.

monika77

With the frame being built, what should be the next step? Flashing the Hk board with Tricopter firmware, right? But I am not being able to download the software from rcexplorer site...some help please..

atulrajguru9

can you please try to google it. i m sure you will find another link to down load it.

other wise PM me your email id. I will email it to you by next week end.

Dharmik

Download lazyzero flashtool. It has all firmwares you need for multirotor.

atulrajguru9

And Just FYI... if you  are using KH KK board then all firmwares are already there on it.

you just need to select right firmware

monika77

Thank you so much Dharmik sir..I will try downloading it like you mentioned..

monika77

Sir what I am using is a HOBBYKING Multirotor board, v2....Does it come pre-flashed??  ??? Its not KK board.
Thank you.
