scratch build small tricopter for 2014 sweepstakes

greetings all....

here i am with my entry for 2014 sweepstakes.. this is my first multirotor build i'm kind of nervous and excited too.. i searched around and found some parts for building the tricopter. started the build on 22 April 2014.. so here we go...

parts list:-

motor-  Avionic M2222/31 KV2280 MICRO brushless motor
esc- H-KING 10A Fixed Wing Brushless Speed Controller
prop- 5*3
fc- kk2.0 or hk2.1 (have not decided yet)
battery- 1500mah 25c 2s

for the frame i used some 4mm cf rod with 4min epoxy some and some thick copper wire . and for the yaw mechanism i used a small piece of 4mm cf tube, one servo horn, some washers and a long screw and feviquick.

for the yaw mechanism i used a small 4mm cf tube pushed inside the servo horn (although i have widened the servo horn hole)... and finally pushed two washer inside the cf tube so that the screw fits perfectly. then used two cf rods glued them to the cf tube vertically and used a heat sink tube around it to cover the joint and hold it in place..

trimmed the extra surfaces of the servo horn... for the frame i have cut three cf rods and glued them with 4min epoxy. for fixing the yaw mechanism with the frame i used the Ball Link End and fixed it on the frame with some copper wire, super glue and a heat srink around it..

the long screw will be screwed into the ball link end with the yaw mechanism.. it will help to move the yaw freely..

one think i found that the motor shaft was small to fix the prop. so i changed the stock shaft with cf2812 motor shaft.. will cut out the excess leter...

used a ice cream stick at the bottom for the battery tray...  mounted the motors, esc and the yaw servo

made a square frame using some 1.5mm cf rods and 4min epoxy for the kk2 to hold in place ( finally decided to use kk2)
kk2 is been fixed using zip ties on to the square frame..

Great, I had lot of trouble with these motors while using them on my multirotor. Tried to epoxy the props to the prop saver as last resort. Then reaming the prop hole in the shape of prop saver did the trick. But your solution still beats mine!
Heads up to the heating issues and motors making noise. I had shifted to different motors which have seen better days but still work like a charm.
Im skeptical about the epoxy joint used for the arms, and the tail mechanism but its premature & expect you to figure it out if something goes wrong. Nice CF tube utilization :)

And CF is very prone to vibration, mounting your board on some foam would be a better idea than tying it up.

thanks sidewinder... yes these motors are very very low quality and not much durable.. but what to do motors and escs laying around so used them as an experimentation... i have never build or flown any multirotor before.. and trust me, epoxy joints are rigid and tight as they are reinforced with copper wire.. and i will keep in mind your foam idea.. greatly appreciate your suggestion... thanks..

today while testing the tricopter, i broke my props and forgot to take the video of flying... will have to order some props.. till then heading over to my next sweepstakes build.. will update as soon as i get my props... thanks...
