Guys,

To bring back an old point...

When I had started the thread on brand comparison - basically between say china models and established players (Futaba, Spektrum et all), the choice in general seemed to be towards the established brands. Primarily on two accounts - ability to program and most importantly reliabiliy.

Now, with Sai targetting a conversion hack on his 72MHz, does it not compromise the reliability aspect since the tx module is still a china product? Then again if we say that the tranmiter module is reliable, then where does the talk of brand comparison lead us?

What... is this becoming a TX RX only forum now  :o  8-)

First of all, we have to stop looking at China as a source of all evil ;)  Chinese have proven that they can do anything based on what the owner/customer wants something to be !

If the owner wants the product to be one of the world's best, they will do it that way (case in point, the Apple iPhone, which proudly claims on the back "Designed by Apple in California and assembled in China").

Instead, if you want an ARF RC plane that costs Rs.500 including radio, they will do that for you also.

The big brand radios have been in so many users hands, giving people the impression that most of their problems have been sorted out, or are well known (with workarounds).  In fact, this even gives people the impression that they cannot go wrong, while the reality is that they do go wrong most of the time when they come up with something brand new (look at how both Futaba and Spektrum/JR had issues with their first 2.4 products).

The main issue with the lesser used brands is that lack of this warm and fuzzy (false sense of security) feeling. Another serious issue is that some of them do display a case of "you get what you pay for" in terms of quality, but this is usually the exception than the rule.  People do not buy a $35 2.4Ghz radio, with the intention to make it a life long radio.

Pankaj ,

Futaba is assembled in China
Thunder Tiger Mini Titan a popular heli is assembled in China .
Hitec Products are assembled in Phillipines
Suppo , BP Hobbies , RCFORALL, Grayson  and Many other brands are basically the same motors manufactured by Dong Yang.
CM Pro a very reputed Brand of aircraft is made in China .

You have a whole list of such products made in China  and world class in terms of quality .

China bashing is quite  popular sport mainly because there is little hope of otherwise beating them ;D ;D.

What is important to understand is that there are good products , average products and bad products available from China
Choosing the right Product is crucial as far as these are concerned , it is always a calculated risk though based on on line research and experience of others.

Truly agree with Sai... China has quality from A++ to Z. It depends on the customer which quality he wants... China will never say NO. they will give you whatever you want in your price range but quality will be compromised... so if u pay more you can surely get American quality from China

I too agree with Sai and Saurabh. i have IBM Laptop at home and IBM desktops in office, made in china only. Made in China doesn mean inferior quality. In a factory/plant several products are manufactured. IBM is also one of them, all depends on Quality Procedure/control and Manufacturing Standard. Take an example :
Sennheiser (Wireless audio) is an ireland based company, product is designed in ireland, marketed in UK available in India as well. but manufactured in China. I challenge if anybody show quality like Sennheiser. lol.............
Fly high if you have good set of batteries.....!

Sennheiser is a German company. It has a division in Ireland, though.

The rest still applies.

One important distinction one must make is between a Chinese product and a product manufactured in China to a well established company's specification.

Guys,

I did not start the 'china bashing' even if it exists in all our walks of life.

However, I was referring to the thread on big-brand-radio-comparisons-with-others

we did get replies like 'we require peace of mind', 'reliability on the field', 'need an Tx that would last a lifetime', 'programming feature' etc. etc. So do these sentiments not reflect supirority on the overall build quality?

Like Anwar says below, that the big brands would have done lot of R&D to sort out the issues over the years, is it not a reflection that these products are better in terms of reliability and performance?

If we accept that then, the question is that - here you have a Futaba (proven, reliable et all) Tx being hacked with a new 2.4G tranmiter (proven to a lesser degree  :) ).... So while the ability to program and control still is reliable, does it not compromise on the reliability of the set to send signal to the plane and thereby actually effecting the overall behavior - well if the signal does not reach the receiver, then what good is a tx in the exterme sense?

The question came from this angle......

PS: Anwar, I love Apple stuff - I write this from iMAC 24 inch

I guess the simple answer is the reason why people go for Assan modules, versus something like Corona.  The comparison is the same as what you are describing, only that it is done at the non-premium level.  The level of trust, worthiness, history (whatever is available) is all considered, and people settled on Assan being a low risk option.
