Hey guys,

Lately i have been hearing a lot of guys complaining that they have lost their plane/heli/quad as the link between the radio was broken :'( :'(

And sadly all of those guys were using TURNIGY 9X radio which is very same or i must say like flysky th9x which i am using ??? ???

I have couple of questions,

1. I did asked this before but never understood. What exactly this module is? does id adds any new feature or enhance the radio :headscratch: :headscratch:

2. Can we umm know the operating range of this radio?

3. Last and very important i have heard that FrSky modules are very good and awesome. How can one say that its good? i mean it adds new features? And if i change the module will the tx work with the rx that came with it or i will have to buy new rx? :headscratch: :headscratch:

Satya

1) the tx has a an rf (Radio Frequency) module behind it. Every tx only generates a ppm/pcm stream based on your control inputs (the actual 'data'). this input stream cannot reach to the receiver all by itself, it needs to be modulated onto the 2.4ghz carrier frequency and sent over wirelessly. the rf module does this modulation. Analogically equivalent to an RJ speaking on radio, his voice has multiple frequencies but they are all delivered to you on a particular channel (e.g. 95.0 Mhz)

2) operating range is affected by many things such as fog etc but 500m line of sight seems to be safe range for this receiver. 500 m covers most of the flying locations. The problem here is a little different though, the rf system loses connection inbetween at times so even if you're flying closer, the controls do not respond momentarily. I've noticed that some versions (including mine) has the module lose at the back. Jigging it used to bring back the signal. The problem here is with the RF module and not the tx per say but to the casual user it seems the sticks aren't working. Analogically equivalent to watching a video on youtube and your network cable being pulled out (imagine no buffering)

3) It is good because it doesnt loose connection like the stock one does. the 'network cable' stays. It also adds some more features like failsafe and the better ones have telemetry support. Frsky has its own receivers. it will not work with the stock 9x receivers.

Hope that helps

Hi,

Turningy works on FHSS technology where as FRSKY works on ACCST (which is a reliable link between the tx and rx) . in FHSS the frequency hops, which  some times causes the frequency lockout if not implemented correctly and which is the scenario in the cheap radios.

so when you the ACCST you can experience the glich free in the radios

Thanks Girish it was indeed very good and very simple for me to understand explanation

@robologix thanks for that, now last thing would i be able to buy frsky module and rx in LHS or i could get it from HK only?>

i dont see any one selling frsky in india , as of my opinion its best to get it shipped from HK

I am kind of NOOB with this hence can you please share the link from HK please :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

many thanks friends

Thanks guys, i have decided to FRSKY module for my FLSKY 9X

Satya, if you're got a heart of steel to open the 9x, there is also a DIY module available. If you can cut up solder traces on PCB boards and reroute wires, you could also use a DPDT switch to retain both the modules (and antennas) and switch between them ;). If you wish to get rid of the stock receiver altogether, the DIY module can help use the existing antenna hole. See this video for a complete conversion guide.

its a pain in the ass ...i'd rather pay few more bucks and get a module which snaps right at the back ;)

satyagupta

Very true Aditya, but the video provided by GS is very nice. In my free time i will surely try it out.

BTW can you tell me what does telemetry means?

I found 2 modules

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=14349 >> Comes with Non Telemetry RX
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=14355 >> Comes with Telemetry Rx

What does telemetry means? i mean how it works what is its features functions? :headscratch: :headscratch:

sir, this is the best ways to know how and what telemetry works.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=14355

you can use telemetry with this module if you own a JR or Turnigy 9x and you dont need to buy another receiver capable of doing telemetry...but you need to buy a screen for telemetry or rather flash your 9x with er9x firmware which is capable of showing the telemetry feeds on the radio screen {:)}....but i don't know how to flash and wire all that. :headscratch: and its to complicated for me, because i am a student with no time.

Very true aditya. This conversion is not if one wants to go down the easy route; and not for the faint hearted. One has completely understand what theyre doing and take responsibility of tinkering with the radio. But yes for electronic enthusiasts like myself the plugin module does not whet our apetite. Satya the er9x conversion aint that bad too. The 9x comes with some pads where programming wires can be easily soldered.

Nice video aditya that really helped me in understanding about it.

One question, so if i need to use them then i need to have all those sensors?? i mean just the telemetry enable rx wont do it? and a telemetry enable receiver can i use that as a normal receiver, if i dont connect any sensors to it?

i use the er9x software on my set, but because i dont have that much time ...i give soldering and flashing job to electronic experts working for my father and they do it for me :giggle:
i like building planes and quads and flying them.   ;D

Adityaamg

yes sir, if you want to use telemetry you need the telemtry enabled receiver and those sensors

but you can use it normally as just a simple receiver and if you want to go to the next level (as we all greedy hobbyists do :giggle: ) you simply buy the hub and those sensors and plug it into your (already telemtry capable) receiver that way you save more money :Rs:

sorry if you do not understand what i say, because i am very bad at it :banghead:

Adityaamg

and sir i would love to come down to your hobby shop if i ever come to mumbai :hatsoff:

girishsarwal

Satya, the frsky telemetry module has an inbuilt voltage sensor onl. For all other sensing you will need to attach additonal sensors via the hub. There are many available under the fpv and telemetry section on hk. You will also need to buy an additonal screen to display the data or upgrade your t9x with the telemetry upgrade.  Buying the screen is the easier route and upgrading the t9x os the difficult route. Its not rocketscience but needs good hands with precision soldering. If you upgrade the t9x you will need to flash the er9x telemetry firmware. ..
