Hi, I am a beginner and I came across some radios offered on sites. I have noticed like there are different radios for planes and cars, (Surface and Air). So does it really makes difference if I go ahead and buy a radio, which can be used for both (rc car or plane)?

anwar

People use air radios with cars.

Using a surface radio for air vehicles does not work, for lack of enough channels.

is it possible to use aircraft radio's rx to the same brand surface tx?

Doubtful. There are purpose- built stick type radios for cars.

The "purpose built" is the type of controls and specific functions. There is no logical reason why an aircraft radio will not work with an Rx of the same brand and frequency, subject to limitations of the functions mentioned above.

Say we go to Spektrum, they have the SR 300 series of car Rx's. I meant to say that I thought that surface Rx's won't do well with Aircraft Tx's. Is my reasoning wrong?

So far i can only see an opinion. Could you elaborate on your
"reasoning" for this?

All I would say is I don't expect surface receivers to bind with aircraft transmitters. The reasoning behind it is the difference in their systems. The website speaks of the surface Tx being compatible with the surface Rx. I'd expect the same thing with all companies. It doesn't say anything about the Tx being compatible with the AR series of Rx's.

A link to this specific problem discussed/quantified on their website please?

The last but one point speaks of this.

A quick Google search backs this up...

If this is true for Spektrum, I don't see why it won't be true for other systems. The same logic should apply to all brands.

Even for Spektrum this holds true ONLY for the new DX3PRO. ALL the others - DX3S, DX3R, DX2LS, DX3E AND DX3C - are DSM2 compatible and would work with Spektrum or JR Aircraft transmitters.

Its the same with Futaba 3PRKA and 3PL surface transmitters. They are FHSS compatible.

So there is a caveat. There could be problems with SOME systems. Many, if not most, would work and work well.
