Hi guys,

Complete newbie here and just starting out shopping. Only use will be for flying. Planning to start with a simulator and easy gliders with electric motors.

Have read thru a huge number of threads, and have come to the conclusion that I will buy a 6 ch 'big brand' [as labelled in another thread here] radio.

Couple of questions

1. Should I buy one which is bundled with 4 servos?
2. The servos they come bundled with seem to be 37-40 grams, while the beginner gliders seem to require 9g servos? Am I confusing something here?
3. Which one will be able to connect to a computer for flight simulation?
4. Any flight simulator programs for Mac?

Between these 4, which would you guys recommend? Why? What's the difference between the 6jJand the 6EX

The only difference between the above two are the servos that they come with. Says for car and boat, but would I be able to use them in planes?

Deepak.. buying a radio set for your need falls up to you, yourself, and basically on the criteria of, your need, your financial budget, and utility.. a brand is not a problem here, but the utility.. the number of channels, price, and all is up to you.. and a two channel radio is suitable for boat or car, but not to an airplane.. look around.. check once , compare all.. ask for some user informations.. then buy your choice.. have nice RCying.. :thumbsup:

Have mentioned that it is for flying, and need 6 channel. Done a fair amount of research and had posted with some specific questions. Hope someone can answer.

Are servos interchangeable between makes? I presume so, from what I have read.

Budget upto 15K or so is fine. Not very strict on the budget.

Should I buy with servos or without?

Can I connect the Hitec 6 channel to a computer for use with a simulator? What would I require to do that?

What kind of planes do you intend flying?

If it is largely electrics below 1.5 kg in weight you are better of buying without servos as most options with servos come with standard servos  which are not used in this class of planes.

Any transmitter for that mater can be used with a simulator , though I would prefer not to use a tx with a cable as you would be consuming battery power , a simulator box would be my preference

Yes, for now at least the light weight electrics. I do not rule out possibility of fuel powered planes at a later date though.

I saw that some of those light planes come with servos.

What about simulator training with the Hitec?

Saw this later. Any issue with using the transmitters battery? Saves 2k on the box right?

As a beginner you would be using the radio as a simulator for longer hours that as a radio hence you will have to keep charging the radio very often , but in the case of the USB sim box it uses the PC or lap top power which is plugged on power .
+ a sim cable also costs around Rs 500 at least hence the diff. is around Rs 1300/-.

OK, makes sense. Guess I'll start with the simulator box then. Possible to use on a Mac? Software for Mac?

Sadly nothing for Mac out there. I think only the original version of Aerofly is Mac compatible. Nothing else that I know of. If you find something, I will be grateful to know about it.

To give you a straight answer without haze...

Buy the OPTIC six (not the sport version)without servos

Buy cheap( inexpensive) 9 gm servos from the same source

^^Sorry for a stupid question, but what's the difference between the 'Sport' and non 'Sport' version? Is it only the selection of Mode 1/2?

i will suggest Optic 6 . i used them for 3 years now.. and still works like a charm. i moved to hitec's Aurora 9 now.  good value for money and yes.. hitec has a service center(being distributor) here in india . RCFORALL chennai . 

Yes we do provide after sales service and coordinate with Hitec on cases that need their inputs and action.
