Hello RCIans,

I was one of those lucky fellows who got the opportunity to test and review the latest opensource radio (Avionic RCB OS-10) from India's Favorite online Hobby store -  RC Bazaar.

Even though my shipment was sent on dec 28th or 29th from the Bangalore store , due to the irresponsible service and lack of communication by my local Courier office i got the Package delivered on Jan 10 only. From Jan 11 I had my business trip , which lasted 3 weeks and after which I was in our Bangalore office for 10 days. All these turn of events delayed my review till now. So first of all I say sorry to all RC enthusiasts .

Lets get in tho the topic :
Well, Everything about this product was described in detail by Swapnil , (Appreciate his efforts on the well written review.) Still I am writing my experience with the product... (Please spare me for any repetitions)

So here I got Latest Budget transmitter from RCbazaar , which we can proudly say is an Indian product (Designed in India and France, manufactured in PRC).

What I got is a cute little sealed cardboard package of suitable size. Inside was the actual product box fully bubble wrapped. I should appreciate the effort RCBazaar staffs takes in packaging a shipment.

While looking on the sealed product package, we can see The MRP , Product origin , Distributor address and main features of the radio Printed at each sides.

The RCB OS-10 comes safely bubble wrapped in a suitable thermocol casing, with Its 10Ch diversity receiver, 2200mAh 2S Tx LiPo, RCB transmitter neck strap, and a keychain with RCB logo.

Now lets look at the Transmitter : As advertised, RCB OS-10, comes in the same mould of earlier RCB-6i , only difference being the color.
While RCB-6i had a black finish, our latest radio have a Grey finish - I should say that many enthusiasts incl. me would be much more happy with a solid black color than this grey 8-) , However that's only a suggestion to the RCB team...

The main attractions of earlier RCB-6i, was the pop - up antenna, fold-able handle and the Mode selection slider on back side , all these features are available on the OS-10 also. The pop-up antenna and fold-able handle makes the radio very easy to carry with.

The mode change slider makes us able to select between Mode 1 (3) and Mode 2 (4), This is one of the unique feature of the earlier RCB-6i, as well as OS-10 .
The same slider if you leave in its middle position, enables both the sticks spring loaded !!  This is an awesome feature if you are using a multirotor with autopilots like Ardupilot or DJI... The self centering throttle stick is handy for auto flight modes with Alt hold . More over the latest firmware for pixhawk has support for self centering throttle inbuilt.

The Transmitter is powered with a 2S LiPo , Battery connector is JST . Battery that come with the radio is a wolfpack 2S 2200mAh 8C Transmitter LiPo pack. On the Battery bay , we have the JST male connector to connect Tx battery and a Micro USB port for updating radio firmware.

The Battery connector and USB socket could be easily damaged if not handled very carefully.

Hey sooraj once let me know how you feel while moving the sticks is it smooth or not.

sooraj.palakkad

Sticks are of the same feel we had in older RCB-6i , But Its far better than that we have in Flysky's basic radios like CT6B, etc...
The Ratchety feel on throttle stick can be changed easily as per the user's convenience.

More over I should say for a budget radio, This Product is a break through , With all these features , it is Worth buying.

And thus , you made me state my final verdict on this awesome product before I could complete my review !!!!  >:D...

Anyway, detailed review covering all the aspects will be continued on my first post, which will be soon followed by video links to unboxing, hands-on , video reviews....

As every feature of the radio is described in detail by Swapnil, I am not gonna make you bored by again going through that.....

Lets come straight to a buyer's prospect !
It is very hard to select a Transmitter system from the verities of brands and models available in the market at the moment.
so instead of comparing with other radios , i thought we could see how handy this radio will be for typical RC enthusiasts.

Most of us fly planes, multirotors and helis , no need to say, the RCb OS-10 supports all these models or any other RC crafts...

Main attractions of the RCB OS-10 are,

  • 10Ch PWM or PPM
  • availability of 3 3position switches, 2 Pots , and momentary switch switch
  • Free mixing and channel mapping
  • easily accessible Digital trims
  • Inbuilt voltage telemetry
  • Availability of 3 select-able protocols , (PPM , RCB OS-10 , Rcb-6i)
  • Selectable RF power
  • Can be binded to the RZ10 receiver or the earlier RZ6 and RZ4 receivers
  • Model memory supporting up to 30 different models
  • Haptic feedback
  • Backlit LCD
  • Micro USB port for easy Firmware updating
And the list goes on and on...

We already know the radio supports multirotors, Features like PPM out , Self centering throttle and availability of 3x 3 position switches, Voltage telemetry makes these radio more convenient to use for a multirotor than the other radios in the same price range.

More on Radio features will be added to above posts.

I will be doing a Range test on Ground , and Also on air.
Will do the LOS Air range test with help of a multirotor with pixhawk autopilot.
will update you about LOS Range , reliability of voltage reading on telemetry etc..  very soon.

Open source software is software whose source code is available for modification or enhancement by anyone. "Source code" is the part of software that most computer users don't ever see; it's the code computer programmers can manipulate to change how a piece of software—a "program" or "application"—works.

above is a rudimentary definition of " opensource"
the link you provided contains the compiled firmware - not the source code.
it also contains DfuSe whic is a demo utility provided by STM for uploading binary files to their mcu's .

so again - where is the source code ?

RcBazaar

thanks a lot sooraj... BUT pls send the rx back as we need to increase the range of this as the current one that you have has old firmware... so pls send the rx back asap and will reprogram it and send it to you... also the latest firmware of the transmitter has been added today and you can update this once you get the reprogrammed rx back and do not forget to update the U-disk files too...

Saikat..
the source code of the RCB OS-10 is HERE

Need some help in getting this up on GITHUB so let me know if someone can do this for me?..

Hello ashishngupta ...
we just tested this,... yes you are right about this and we have fixed the same with the latest firmware which can be downloaded here
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4saiZvhGj-COF9NN0NYM1ZLTkU and updated to your TX..

and dont forget to copy your U disk files to you harddrive and copy is back to the tx after updating the new firmware... update of the U disk if you are not aware is as simple as

1. after connecting the usb to the radio and computer Press EXIT and turn ON the tx.. you will see a usb symbol on the screen and a drive will open up on your computer or you can open it by going to My Computer.
2. copy all the folders and files from the TX to you harddrive
3. switch OFF the tx..
4. Proceed with updating the latest firmware by pressing ENTER and switching ON your tx (there are videos on how to do this by swapnil and by us)
5. switch OFF your TX
6. Now update your U disk files
7. Press EXIT and switch ON your TX and replace all the files and folders in your TX with the ones that you had previously stores in your hardrive..

Hope this is fine.. if any issues so let us know and also once you update the latest firmware and U disk files check the headtracking system and let us know if you are encountering any issue or is this resolved...

Are the OS-10 and RCB6i compatible with modules like immersion RC's EZUHF systems or the dragon links? if they are, how can i connect them?

don't know bout os10.  but rcb6i is but a little mods . just 3 wire solder

One thing i wanted to mention was when i am doing my FPV i realised the OSC jack is on top. the wire causes hinderance while flying.
if the OSC jack was behind potential mishaps can be avoided. for now im just going to take the wire and tie it to the tx handle.

also another issue i found was the mono and stereo jack issue. both dont seem to fit perfectly into the slot. the plug has to be slightly be pulled out. yet it shows a faulty interfering connection. it only works when pulled slightly

Ashish

RCB OS-10 doesnt have a module bay to support external Tx modules.
So You cant just insert a JR or Futaba type module and fly.
But just like any other radios, one may install DIY Tx modules like the DHT (frsky) , Inside the radio .

Probably +Vcc, GND and the PPM signal. It should not be too hard to find a source to power the module but it may be a little harder to locate the PPM stream for input to the module.

Yeah , some one please do a teardown of the TX n post it  :)
