hi , guys i have got a new fly sky ct6 b tx rx 6ch 2.4 ghz but dont know the minimum range of that i am making an rc plane so very afraid of loosing the plane if gone out of range because at some blog i read that i give only  30 m range if any one have this tx and know actual range or way to find range pls let me know as soon as possible

johnywalker8pm

Harshit..

There is no range issue with ct6b. its because of damaged/re-soldered antenna of rx.
You can fly as far you can see your plane unless you are making such a big plane that you can see it from more than half a mile.. ;D

well I have been experimenting with flysky 6 channel
1) An antenna less receiver gives 10m range
2) A receiver with just a wire soldered give much more range
3) A good receiver with proper antenna will give Line of sight range of more than a KM

sooraj: proper antenna as in ? can you help with the DIY ?

Proper antenna, means the required length of antenna wire for 2.4 GHz radio reception - which is 3.1Cms . You can use a Coaxial antenna wire and expose 3.1 CM of copper core to work as a receiver antenna.

links for the antenna ? and what exactly is to be done ?

no links dear, you have to make it yourselves, all you need is 24 or 26 gauge coaxial wire.

ok, so what is it like ? cut and replace the wire ?

and how much increase in range can i expect ?

The antenna present on your receiver is already trimmed to 31mm(28-33mm active part). So i dont see the point in changing it to the same thing! There would be no increase in range.

Changing the antenna on the tx to a directional one, such as a patch antenna would help or changing the antenna on tx to a helical antenna and the rx to a cloverleaf would increase range. Use google to find out rest of the details as these can be homemade with medium difficulty if you can hold a soldering gun in your hand..

And those flysky 6ch have enough range for flying a 600mm copter till the time you can see it without loosing orientation if you use it normally and properly. I have been using it without any issues. And I completely agree with what JW had said earlier.

Anyways if you are really doubtful about your range why dont you bench test it first? Why make unnecessary assumptions?

Take a friend along,
connect a servo to any channel of the Rx,
power the RX with ubec/bec or whatever you deem fit with appropriate voltage,
Ask your friend to hold the servo and rx at a little height from ground,
Walk away from him and try to move stick and check with your friend if servo moves at like every 50meters.
The moment servo stops responding to stick movements, you would know whats the range.
Always maintain a LOS while doing it.

OR refer manual or search google on how to do a range check for your Tx!

Some factors affecting range are:
Environmental conditions,
Noise floor in your area from tv towers, cell towers, wifi routers etc,
Position/orientation of antenna on tx/rx,
Video/telemetry radio interferences etc

Now, please remember the range is less on ground and more in air, so you can expect a marginally better link in air.
Also position of your antenna on Tx/Rx too effects range, so please observe how range gets effected at different antenna orientations. Also make sure you are providing adequate power to tx, because I have experienced reduced range when battery gets low with HK 6ch radio which is a clone of your radio.

My suggestion, start saving money for a better radio such as flysky 9ch with frsky module/taranis or so called premium radios such as futaba etc.  :) .

i was already planning to upgrade to those
:_

Do they have telemetry and failsafe ?

@parichya.gautam,
I get the feeling you are overly worried about range. (And posting the same issue in many threads ;D)
I seriously doubt claims of flying 5-600m away.
(With model airplanes. I have no experience of multirotors or FPV)
We fly every Sunday, and Google Earth shows we are not over 500ft away. Telemetry shows altitude not over 300 ft. Hence line of sight is within 600ft or 200 meters.
My experience is that you lose orientation (hence ability to give correct inputs) long before you lose sight of the model. Especially around sunset!

You can do two things:

1. Do the range check as suggested by sidewinder

2. Start a poll on RCI asking two questions:
a. Did you ever lose a model due to lack of range? Yes/No
b. Did you ever lose a model due to lack of range using a Flysky CT6b? Yes/No

Then stop worrying and start flying. Best of luck.
(BTW, i don't know your expertise level, but if you are a beginner in electronics, trying to solder a new antenna in the Rx is likely to do more harm than good)

Sometimes range problems are not only sight & distance

I have personally seen, several times, the same Radio set losing signal at far, far less than 200 metres. In one case the system went into failsafe, in two cases it resulted in a crash.

Thus range is not only about line of sight, but more importantly reliability of signal till extremities of line of sight

K K Iyer

You could of course lose a model for many reasons - battery low in Tx or Rx, Rx antenna shielded by carbon fibre fuselage, Rx antenna near metal pushrods, loose connections, Rx antenna damaged/disconnected in handling, Rx antenna cut/rolled up/doubled up or Tx antenna not extended (with older AM/FM systems)
Or pilot loss of orientation.
All causes that can be (and usually are) blamed on lack of range!

In other words - reliability till extremities of line of sight - as Rai saheb says.

parichya.gautam

I guess your're right, I'm getting overly worried :P

OK :)

Will fly normally :)
