1) You do not need to remove the crystal, as long as you can ensure that it is student mode. See this discussion.

http://www.rcindia.org/beginners-zone/simulator-interface-cables-useage-with-tx/

2) You can use it as long as you want, just recharge as needed.

If you need further clarification, please ask :)

hi mate.
one thing with the sim.............
practice as much as you can........but it will still be harder with your heli than with the sim don't think because you can do it on the sim you can go out and do it on the heli..it will be easier because you practice but not the same.
ideal for practicing smooth take off and landing, side hover , and nose to you hover.

I have beenn told by people who know and understand electronics not to keep a 72 or 35 Mhz radio onn for long with the antenna collapsed- which is what we ussually do while using the Tx on the sim.
It fries the RF transistor or something. So it is a relevant question as to how long one can safely keep a TX on while using it on the sim with the antenna collapsed. Maybe the Electronic gurus can explain better

hi mate.
why not sit a little furthar back from the screen/heli ........you do when flying........ and then have the antenna up......... .maybe 3/4 way...........
usually you only have tx on with aerial down for range test..... may be 10 mins...

Removing the crystal from the TX saves the RF transistor- had always done this before upgrading to 2.4 Gigs
