Folks,

I have been going through the posts on importing radios in India for a few days.

I am planning to import a radio from abroad that is ETA approved by WPC. I also remeber seeing a notification from dgft (http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/DocFiles/Sublegislation/Gazette%20(%202.4%20GHz).doc) allowing imports as long as the equipment was wpc type approved.

My questions is Can I import the radio by mail? If im not mistaken, ETA for a particular type radio needs to be done only once, so I neednt reapply for one, right?

Will I be required to submit any further documents?

As a beginner, there are far too manyconflicting opinions from very old threads that really confuse me!

Sorry for bringing up the questions again, if the admins or mods feel that the topic has been discussed and beaten to death, feel free to delete this thread.

Thanks

Hello KK,

Thanks your input.

I did consider some used radios before but decided against it. Im planning to invest in a good brand radio like a futaba or a JR provided its possible to clear customs without having to regret it.

Thanks again!

Folks,

Thanks for your replies.
A special thanks to the kind soul who took his time out to PM me a great deal on great radio.

As I had said in my initial post, I am keen on investing on a new transmitter from outside India.

I have a few reasons for this, the most important one being it is for a team project. I went through a lot of LHS options before deciding on it.

Im interested in picking one up from towerhobbies, and having it shipped to me.
What papers do I require to clear customs? Would the dgft circular and wpc eta approval listing be enough? Would anything else be needed?

Has anyone imported any ETA certified radios recently? I see a few posts on the forum where one or two brave souls had dared the system and picked one up without facing difficulties from customs. I would prefer this as much as possible!

Thanks

Hi
Import of Wireless Equipment needs Equipment Type Approval and Import License from WPC.
If the ETA is not in your name you will not get Import license.

I made this thread earlier,
http://www.rcindia.org/radios-and-receivers/procedure-for-obtaining-equipment-type-approval-(eta)-from-wpc/

Here is one recent customs circular
http://delhicustoms.gov.in/files/air-cargo-imports/public-notices/Pub-I12-230817.pdf

Please note some people might have ordered and received it. It may be their luck or it was overlooked by customs.

Disclaimer : I own a LHS, and I have no intention to stop you in importing TX/Rx on your own.
