Hi All,

It was back in Feb of 2022, one of our aeromodelling colleague approached me with his brand new JR DSX 11 transmitter. He had purchased it a year back from US and has not been able to use it because it was on Mode 2 (he was on Mode 1). He has done everything possible, including checking with JR service center, Global RC forums and had consulted many experts regarding the conversion and he was not successful. He was in mail communication with model radio workshop in the UK as well. They have provided him some pointers on how to get it done, but nothing worked and there were no answers in online forums as well. Now this transmitter has become a costly paper weight for him. There were 2 burning issues to be sorted to get this going: 1 is software issue and the 2nd is the analog trim that was present for the throttle stick. Even if we do the spring swap from right gimbal to the left for mode conversion, moving the analog trim to right side was the issue. Though we can physically move the trim to the right side of the transmitter, the trim was still controlling the previous throttle lever (which currently the elevator stick in mode 1).

Fed up with all the complications, he handed over the set to me and said you see if you can figure it out. I am not an expert in electronics, but my curiosity level was high and hence took it up as a challenge to give it a try. I told him it might take some time to figure this out and we might need to do some minor soldering works. He was ok with this and then I commenced by journey of finding answers.

The software part was easy as the owner had lots of communications with the service teams in US and UK and he had collected couple of software updates as well. Just a simple installation from the SD card got us from Mode 2 to Mode 1 on the software side.

In the hardware side, I swapped the spring from the right side gimbal to the left side gimbal and also shifted the throttle ratchet accordingly. (which is the normal conversion from mode 2 to mode 1 in any transmitter)

The tough part was swapping the analog trim from the left side of the transmitter to the right side. Slowly and cautiously I checked through the connections of both the trims to the PCB and was able to swap the trims from one side to the other. But still the throttle trim was not functioning as normal. After spending couple of hours on this finally it dawned upon to me that since the connections are moved from one side to the other, their polarity has changed and hence we need to swap the polarity as well for both the trims.

Once I got this done...Eureka the JR DSX 11 got fully converted from Mode 2 to Mode 1 with full functionality. Now we have a proud owner of a Mode converted JR DSX 11 transmitter happily flying his models.

At the end of it all, I was also happy that I was able to live up to the expectations of my fellow aeromodeller. All is well that ends well... ;D

I currently don't have the before conversion picture, but sharing the after conversion picture for your reference.

I need to dig my pictures archive to get the work in progress pictures. Will post them later on.

Very good read , and a nice story. Many year s ago , I ordered a TX from Banggood, and by mistake had ordered the Mode 1, but I was able to get them changed to Mode 2 after emailing them and chatting with them  . They were very understanding. Its sad to see that we cannot order from Banggood anymore.
