it seems that JR had to go with frequency hopping tech of futaba in japan due to the regulations there. they have named it DSM J.

what's below is taken from another thread on this....

"JR has a 12X DSMJ 2.4 ( signal hopping) version and a 9303 DSX 9G 2.4 " GOLD-LIMITED EDITION" available in JAPAN and the ASIAN hemisphere. Been told that signal hopping is required in Japan. Too bad the American consumer is apparently closed out. That's marketing for you.

Very true in that observation but.... for the Japanese market if you use DSSS based systems (which is whatSpektrum is albeit a Hybrid) they are limited to 10mW EIRP. For the full 100mW, it has to be a FHSS based system.... hence DSMJ being developed by JR with assistance.

anwar any idea on this ? it seems futaba may come out as the only company for 2.4 ?

guys google on this and come out with something.........

Hmm.  That is just JR's way of dealing with the 10mW power limit imposed on DSSS systems by certain countries.  And even then, they are not compatible with the Futaba implementation of FHSS.  FHSS is allowed upto 100mW power pretty much everywhere.

I don't see why you feel that only Futaba (or even FHSS) will remain, just because of the above reason.  It is just a very limited regional hack. There is no report that JR will switch to DSM-J completely.

yes you are right, in japan jr is only selling dsm-j as is evident from their japan site which was in fact down for quite some time and has now reappeared omitting the english version. i myself use JR and will stick on with JR unless something drastic happens.
