Which radio should be taken as a beginner under 5k? What fuctions should be seen?
I am going to buy one soon. Will use it as sim for sometime and then go for building light wieght electric planes. Seen two on net,

Why the second one(4ch) is too costly as compared to first one(6ch)? Is programming via pc option is bad?
Any other radios available on this budget in india?
Please share the name of radios you had used when you were a beginner and what radios are other beginners using?

I'll be back.

For that budget the HK 6ch radio available at flying--rc is a good bet.
However, sometime earlier, Sai uncle had the KDS 7ch 2.4ghz radio for sale which is the same as the HK 7ch radio http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10186 and it was available for under 6000. I don't know if it is still available. U may contact Sai uncle.

Hey the 6ch radio is not programable by itself. You will need a laptop at the field to program it and is definately not practical!

Say you buy this radio and then go to the field x km away and realize the servo direction have to be reversed - disaster.

Its even worse if you dont have a lappy- i have one but i would never take it to the dusty flying fields.

It is always better to have servo reverse so go for the 4ch HK radio instead.

The 4ch you mentioned is overpriced. Same radio is available with aman_funny for Rs.3200 i guess. Else ask pvn2000 for 4ch. He should be able to get it for you.

If you have 5k please consider the futaba being sold by Arpit - "traxxrc1". In my opinion it is the best deal here as you will not need to upgrade for quite a while, it comes with programming. On the downside its not 2.4GHz (can be overlooked if you dont intend on flying expenssive models or flying on a crowded field) Arpit has been here for a while so your money should be "safe".

If you give me 5k and ask me to buy a beginner radio i would go for the futaba.

6 ch HK is not a bad deal, i am sure you will do you preflight in terms of servo direction, throw etc before you leave for the field, like rajath says, it holds only one model in the memory, if you are planning to fly another in that trip , lappy !/Palmtop, and the cable you need to buy separately (From HK) , praveen has included the chord though (I wonder how is he doing that for a mere  3200/-)

i am using Futaba Sky sport 35 mhz (time tested, sweet radio of yester years) Mr Sai is selling one like it for 4600/- (like you pointed out), for a beginner it is a gr8 radio, no PC programming facility though, you don't need it initially either.

I am also using Futaba 7C , gr8 radio for Heli and Aero, good for 3d flying,10 model mem, not too expensive either, lookup (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGAE9**&P=0)

Praveen is selling a Cessna with Skyartec 7c radio (Only, One mem again) for 8999/- , grab the deal if you can. you are getting aeroplane, charger, lipo, 4 servos, and a TxRx for a TxRx's price, almost like you are getting aeroplane on gratis for the price of TxRx, i am using it, gr8 features like knob is replaced with slide switch on both sides,, which you can operate with your index finger. good grip, grip is replaceable, Rx is cheap, good range (Checked it upto 800 Mtrs, no jitter works gr8)

sbajare could have a 2nd hand deal for you, ask him. he is a long time instructor in this field.

also, look into the forum , anwar and others have discussed issues like, frequency certification etc, Indian Hobbies has radios certified by WPC(Wireless Planning Commission), be sure to read all about it. Futaba 6EX at Indian hobbies is not a bad deal either, with the certification throw in (http://indianhobbies.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_20&products_id=63)

hope it is of help

Consider reading through the Forum, there is wealth of info in here.

Oh Ok pardon me, there is utility available in HK under files tab for the TxRx. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xIOGCt8dvM&feature=related (Vid, Quality aint good), pgming is easy as a breeze though, remember to save your *.ini files. Skyartec 7Channel comes with it own utility with included *.ini files for most models of skyartec on the CD(With minor mod it is compatible with others).
