why should you buy branded radio like HiTec

I wanted to share very good experience of Hitec RCD with you guys.

While testing my F-22, BODA antenna of my RX got cut into 2 pieces.

I send email to Hitec RCD and they send the antenna for free to my US address without even charging single cent.

When i found that there is no cheap compatible RX like spectrum, i was little disappointed.

But now i understand the quality and support of Hitec.

I don't think that any $50 TX-RX provider will be able to provide this kind of support.

There are surely some other good factors such as quality of ur TX-RX and glitch free range.

what do you think?

another good reason for having a branded radio is that..!! wehn you are flying the plane worth 20K(talkin nitros)  is in air..! in order to save 3-4k you loose 20K .... WHEN TRANSMITTER IS ON MONEY FLIES... someones signature here...(dont remember who's :headscratch: :headscratch:)

I think there are 2 type of components a) critical b) not so critical

Critical can be ->
TX-RX, servos - links and battery

Not so critical items ->
props, motor, esc, engine, battery charger, engine starter

Out of all critical components i think TX-RX is the most important.

We should remember our planes changes as we grow but our TX remains same.

Its really good investment and if there is any chance, if you could afford good radio then you defiantly go for it instead of trying to save 4-5K on cheap TX, RX.

In RC, radio is the most vital communication between the model and you.

The model and all its components rely on the radio for a smooth flight.

Hence i advise people to always go for a branded radio as it is a one time investment.

cheaper radios are ok for one time practical use and college projects.

but if you are in Rc forever then it is advisable to alteast own a good 6ch computer radio. the features are worth the moeny and you can always use the xtra channels for some good use later on.

Owners of a good OEM Radio would always have the peace of mind while flying their models and would have themselves to blame for any crash.

People having a Knockoff would either wish to have an OEM some day, or enjoy the luxury of having  the Radio to blaming for the crashes!

I think it is important to first of all classify the radios :

Basic : Non programmable  beginners type , with servo reversal and trimming
Programmable : With advance functions  multiple model memory .

My experience as a user :

Basic level : Chinese Radios are reliable and value for money
Programmable : I have tried and sold both flysky 6 and 9  and KDS 7  in this category  and  have had  problems with  terms of binding, range , usage etc   .

I know my  comments could be misunderstood but  these are purely as a user and not a seller. Programmable type : I would only go for branded anytime .

Servos are equally important as the Tx and Rx , u can't do anything if your servo stops at full throtle in air .I crashed 2 of my plane the same way, bad servo, got fired in b/w the flight on full throttle, all i could do was close my eyes..

The only disposible part of the RC flying is the Flyer. I dont think you can cmpromise on ANY functional part of the plane including Radio, Rx Battery, Control system (Servo), Power System (Engine/ ESC+ Motor), Landing gear and Air frame itself. Though the list is loosely in the order of most reliability required, Failure in any of them may result in a crash. People using a bad quality Thread lock have ended loosing 100cc Gasser plane.

I have the thumb rule of matching-quality. If you are building an expensive plane ( a even costly Fomie ARF), put better power system and Avionics (OEM Rx, OEM Servos, trusted power system like proven engine or branded motor etc) . If you are making a scratch fomie or quick dirty Balsa bird, risk it with a budget avionics and power system

hi,

branded or non branded, even a loose horn or nut bolt will bring the plane down.

lot of factors need to be considered for crashes.

experience counts. for newbies its a learning curve.

Hi ujjwaana,

I am not sure if I am right or wrong but i have seen Sandeep sir(sbajare) landing planes safely when engine fails or battery drain or motor stops or even prop came off (it happened with my plane :P).

so I think that your control system is critical part where you cant take risk.

Power system comes after control system.

Hi ujjwaana,

I am not sure if I am right or wrong but i have seen Sandeep sir(sbajare) landing planes safely when engine fails or battery drain or motor stops or even prop came off (it happened with my plane :P).

That's why I have kept the control system ahead of Power system.  I have seen many at my field doing 'Dead Stick' landing, and myself done safe landing when motor came off. But no one would like to have such dead sticks as regular landings.  Experts like Sandeep sir would have aced in such landings, but its better to avoid them.  How can I forget the landing with only one wing in one of the Youtube videos

I think the word remote control says it all the radio link has to be priority number 1 . Any problems with that  and all you can do is watch your bird costly or cheap go around at its own free will .
The fact that dead stick , or dead motor  landing etc is all possible only due to the RF control being available to you.
So as a thumb rule in the case of electrics  my priorities are :
1) Reliable Radio Link
2) ESC/BEC  that would not burn  even if the Motor draws current beyond its max amp and even burns out which means the ampere rating of the ESC has to be higher than the motors
3) Battery that can deliver higher power than the Motor or the ESC can draw .

This is to ensure the receiver is powered up at any given point of time thus maintaining radio link. irrespective of what ever else happens to the plane . So I essentially ensure that the REMOTE CONTROLLER is my key component

Even if you are (or have with you to assist) a great flier, the number of hassles a problem radio set (or even an engine) can give you at the field just ruin the flying.

Flying should be fun, on the field you should not spend all your time struggling with a screwdriver in your hand!

Good reliable equipment is a must to be a  ;D flier
