Letter By Air chief Tipnis included in the Karnal souvenir:-

AERO-MODELERS MEET AT KARNAL 19-20 NOVEMBER 2011

Dear Shri Vijendra Nagar,

It was a scintillating experience to be at the Aero-Modelers Meet at the Kamal
Flying Club on the 19" & 20''' of November 2011, the first to be held in North
India.

I had an opportunity to try my hand at this thrilling adventure-sport (the word had
not been coined in my time!) as a cadet at the National Defence Academy and later
as a flight cadet at the Air Force Flying College in the mid/late1950s. Although the
sky became my domain and fighter-flying my passion, one always rued the lack of
opportunity in later life to continue with aero-modeling as a hobby. In the I980s
while traveling in France, I chanced upon a group of aeromodelling enthusiasts
displaying their wonderfully realistic, 'large-scale models on the ground and
exercising their flying skills in the air; watching spectators streaming in, it seemed
as though grape-pickers in the surrounding vineyards had even stopped their work
to partake of the excitement! I wished then for the sport to be followed with equal
enthusiasm, even flite skills were not to match, in India.

Thanks to you Mister President and the members of the Aero Modelers
Association, my two days' exposure amongst you at Kamal, demonstrated amply to
me, that the aero-modelers of India, not only match the enthusiasm of your
counterparts elsewhere in the world, but more than match their skills too!

The Meet was a testimony to your collective enthusiasm, perseverance and
organizational skills. I compliment the organisers and all participants for the same.
Pursuing a hobby with skill levels of professionals requires time, finance, facilities,
abundance of energy and uncommon passion. A hobby such as this cannot be
followed individually. It needs an association of like-minded people who cut across
disparities in age, professions, financial means and social status. Very few are able
to do this, you stand tall in keeping the sport alive and vibrant in an exemplary
manner in India .

Your models have kept pace technologically with the advances made in the field of
aviation and your skill levels can be the envy of professional aviators. To keep this
sport at the highest level in India, you deserve to be given full support, morally,
financially and through provision of infrastructure and opportunities.

I take this forum to call upon the central/state governments, sport bodies, business
corporations and private citizens to extend these supports whole-heartedly. The
media can, as they proved in the coverage of this event, and they must, provide the
necessary publicity and awareness in the country to help grow this sport from
limited participation to a wider following by sports persons and to make it a popular
spectator-sport.

Do convey my congratulations and very best wishes to all the participants,
organisers and supporters for a very successful 2011 Aero-Modelers Meet.
JaiHind!

Air Chief Marshal AYTipnis

Thank you Mr. Nagar. It is our honour and duty to support and be associated with the great work that AMA is doing for aero modeling in the country. This has been possible because of Dennis Swanson' support and belief that we should support AMA's cause wholeheartedly. Dennis as well as the entire Boeing fraternity joins me to wish you the very best for a successful event and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with AMA in the future.
