Dear members,
I'm so happy to post this here. Below attached are the ETA approval certificates of the DJI Mavic Mini drone and it's controller. The custom officers do ask for it irrespective of your drone is registered or not. There are also a lot of people selling this certificate and making bogus claims.
I firmly believe that such certificate should be made available on the DGCA (digitally) website to make the experience of everyone involved better. Kindly spread the word and download the attachments. Keep it with you always as it is the only mandatory certificate needed for nano drones.
Cheers

I am sorry but could you explain what this is ?

KillshotJoker

It is a certificate that custom officers ask for if you are importing a mavic mini or getting your own mavic mini back to the country. It's a Equipment Type Approval certificate. Which the WPC (DoT- directorate of Telecommunication) provides. So if and when you import a nano drone you only need to provide the custom officers with the ETA certificate of that drone.

That's so kind of you to post these, How did you manage to get them ? , and why are you posting them here for free?

I wrote to the DGCA and they actually have a person looking after the ETA approval process and certifications. He gave me a person to talk to in Delhi and that guy sent them to me.
As far as posting them for free, why not. Our RC community is so big and yet people want to con others to make a quick buck. I hope and pray this certificate helps everyone in need. I myself have been stuck with drones at immigration so many times. It's funny how such a stupid certificate should be made easily available and that the PWD depts in our country are extremely difficult to deal with. The ETA application for individuals is nearly impossible. Plus this particular certificate should be made available by the DGCA directly at all the custom entry points so that it's easier. So yes for free. Everyone need not break their heads, beg and plead to get what now is rightfully and legally theirs.
Thanks.

Amazing ! I am sure we all as the RC community are thankful to you for your sincere help and support.

The certificate is for wpc clearance, it is not DGCA approved, Mavic mini is over 250g so it's in micro category and need uin number to be operated. Also need DGCA clearance for import.
You can get wpc clearance for any radio working in 2.4 or 5.8 band

KillshotJoker

The Mavic air is 249g. The DGCA has said that to import it you only need the ETA certificate. Had a word with the Asst. Gen Sec.  DGCA who told me that you will still need to register the drone with DGCA. Rest this certificate is enough to import.

What about the custom duty/import taxes when importing the drone?
Do I have to get my own certificate for a drone that I'm buying? And if so, where do I get it from?

KillshotJoker

For the Mavic Mini you do not need any other certificate other than an ETA for the same as it is less than 250g. The custom people do ask for the ETA, which is to be applied to the DoT by DJI but the certification attached above should suffice. I've contacted the DoT multiple times for my own personal ETA but they never entertain any single person but readily entertain companies. Also an ETA is a general certificate which states that the specified product is allowed to be used in India. So technically the name on the certificate shouldn't matter.

What about the custom duty/import taxes when importing the drone? And what about the taxes when one of my friend is bringing the drone for me?

god bless you "killshotjoker"... I was looking for this every where.. This should be a sticky topic or RCINDIA should make a repository

Thank you so much killshotjoker. Very helpful for the people who want a mavic mini.

This ETA is not of any use to you guys as the model number mentioned on ETA is specifically designed for Indian market. DJI will only provide the said model to these authorised distributors and not to anyone else. If you buy from international market you will get a different model number.

Now comes the tricky part.

If you order it from international market and in customs inspection if the inspector tries to match the model number with the eta, he will definitely come to know that this is imported model and not as per indian standards. Hemce he will reject your import and it will be impounded.

If the inspector doesnt check the model number, your shipment may go through bit it is highly impossible as drones are high risk items so they check everything throughly.

This means that even after having this eta, it will be of no use to anybody. I'd recommend you to buy from local.

There is 28% IGST + 15% BCD + 10%SwSrchg applicable on import.

If you add up the international market price + shipping + taxes and duties then I am sure the price will come to nearly about the current market price in India.

Now there will be people who will doubt this so I encourage them to import, for those of you who may ask me how I know that then let me tell you that I am a dealer in DJI products and thats how I know all this.

People who are already licensed and registered importers may understand this. Hope it is useful to you.

Thanks

No tricky part anywhere!

There are two models of Mavic Mini MT1SS5 and MT1SD25 and their respective remote controls. MT1SS5 is FCC compliant which has official range of 4 km and available in India, China, US etc. MT1SD25 has official range of 2 km and is CE compliant, sold in European and Australian markets. I feel both have same range in actual use, didn't test them yet though. Importing any of the models requires ETA/WPC clearance. Once anyone applies for the ETA for specific model in India, others can use it for import.

Both the models operate in de-listed frequency bands hence are legal to fly in India. Original post here mentioned the ETA clearance for MT1SS5 model which is available in India. Now here I attach certificate downloaded from saralsanchar portal for Model MT1SD25. This is for the drone only and I don't think you'll need a separate certificate for remote control as these two are sold together, and if you have original purchase receipt while bringing the drone with you from Europe for example. Show this ETA to customs, also enlist your drone on digitalsky platform to get OAN and DAN, carry the proof, and there will be no hassle while going through the customs. Carry drone (box unsealed) in check-in and batteries in hand luggage.

Just fly below 50 ft and in unrestricted airspace (airspaces far away from ATC) without any police permission, licenses etc.

Hope it helps. Enjoy!

Hey Bro,
First thank for putting up this info here! This gives me relive a bit. I have asked one of my cousins to get it from Dubai when coming to India and now in Bangalore it got ceased by Customs official. They have asked us to get WCP. Upon checking with DGCA they have asked me to get the ETA license with 10k fee. I have decided to go for it under my company registration. But I am not able to get more details. Like which all documents do I need to produce and what is the procedure to file the application with Regional Licensing Offices (RLOs) of WPC Wing.

If you know these details or have any contact information that will be BIG help bro!

Regards!

Anthus

Hey this is amazing. Do you by any chance know if there is an ETA approval certificate available for the mini 2? My friend is coming from the US in a few weeks and has already ordered the drone so if anyone has any information it would be really useful. Also what other documents are necessary for the import of a nano drone? I don't need any import licenses right?

jagadishb.88

Hi Everyone,

There seems to be a website where we can search and download ETAs (search for the product you are looking for e.g. Mavic)
https://saralsanchar.gov.in/wpc_eta_report.php

I found ETA for Mini 2 also in that website. Hopefully that helps.

I also have a few doubts, can someone can clarify these –
1) Now that I have an ETA for Mavic Mini, what other documents I should carry when traveling to India for this nano drone – ETA, OAN/DAN from digitalsky, anything else? I read so many conflicting articles - Earlier in this forum someone has mentioned that we should get "Import clearance from DGCA" and "Import License from DGFT". In another article i read, it said that we also need a "Certificate of Manufacture".  All this is very confusing. Could someone please help here and list all the documents needed (when we are carrying the drone with us when coming from a foreign country), and which websites/links to get these documents from?
2) I know that I should only have the drone in my check-in baggage. However should I still disassemble my drone (wings/body etc), or can I just keep the drone intact with all the documentation next to it in case they check?
3) Should I officially declare the drone at customs, or is it enough to just keep the paperwork (ETA etc). along with the drone in the check-in baggage?
4) If I declare it in the customs, is there any extra money that I should pay? How much?

Thanks!
