I need advise so as to how can I carry a phantom 3 from US to India. I want to know if it's legal to carry a drone on planes either in hand baggage or check in luggage.

Thanks in advance.

I think it depends on which Airport you are landing.  Mumbai has been known to be very nasty were even Celebs have been grilled for carrying Helis etc.  Other airports could be cooler , but AFAIK, the DGCA/GoI has sent a circular to most airports against importing these 'Drones' (Screw the word). So better take a caution.

it willl be near impossible, if u can evade customs somehow then it wont get seized, just make sure that u keep some high density electronics all around the quad so that the X-ray does not make it look like a "drone" (please use quadcopter instead XD)!!

its either FPV or nothing.

I think they will be more keen to know what's inside if you keep bunch of electronics with it :P

Hey, did you get this to India? Even I am in the same boat. Thanks.

You can carry it in the plane, you should do that as your carry luggage and no check-in. But the problem is customs, very rare chances of you skipping it and once caught, very rare chances of releasing it. Suggestion, don't take the risk unless you are sure someone can help you out at the customs.

Thanks for your reply. But I was just wondering why should I carry it on? I was thinking of putting it into my checked in bags?

Really bad idea, the Phantom 3 is a large quad and not possible to hide it from the customs officials.

Honestly your best bet is to dismantle the quad as much as possible, distribute the parts around your bag and reassemble at home.

^^^ This is what I was planning to do. But I am not sure if the DJI parts are tolerant to reassembly. I have built a few quads on my own, this is my first prebuilt barring the micros.

There are lots of youtube videos showing complete dis assembly and reassembly, you should be fine.

You brought the battery in check in luggage or with you?
