Hello everyone,

Please have a look at this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4pcs-New-Original-LG-HE4-2500mAh-Lithium-Battery-18650-3-7V-Power-Electronic-Cigarette-batteries-20A/32352434845.html?spm=2114.01010208.8.13.8eyz2r

4pcs 18650 batteries 20A discharge capacity weighs about 48g each. Cost Rs.1015/- (as of today)

Can I combine 3 of them to get 11.1v and use it as a single 3s battery pack on my plane?

Anyone expert here?

Thank you.

Swapnil N.

Yes, you can connect 3 of them in series to get 11.1v battery.

If it supplies enough current then you can definitely do it.

LiIon cells like the 18650 are commonly used to make battery packs. Even Tesla cars use use very same type of cells in their cars. Tons os the cells are arranged together to form packs.

You do not commonly see them in RC models due to their (comparitively) low discharge current. If these cells truly give the amount of current as you need (you should test them), then you can indeed form a 3S pack out of them.

Hi Swapnil!
LG HE4 is not at all recommended if you're not sure of your amperage. Since it's based on the ICR chemistry, it's considered dangerous than the rest. But if you're sure with the setup of not exceeding the battery's specs, go for it. And solder it only if you're an expert. Strictly speaking, soldering is not recommended as it ruins the capacity. The other way is to spot weld them(spot welder costs 20k).
Honestly, we had chosen the best 18650s in the market for our batteries. But we still fear anyone would buy it.

I have made a battery pack of 18650 from a laptop battery. For quad copter. Pic encl. But it gives only 5 mins. N battery heats up a little bit. Not no issues. 2p 3s total 6cells

Thanks for the reply.

That is awesome, just like your boats.

Did you have any trouble using this pack?  And what is C rating of those cells?
