Guys can u tell me what all things to keep in mind while performing a hand launch???

saikat

yes - most important - don't throw the tx and keep the plane

:giggle:  I think that is the most funny (yet "it makes sense" kinda) post till date on RC India ! ROFL

One big thing is to not aim it into the sky.  A 25degree to 40degree angle is more than enough.

best point to take care....otherwise if you do a sky side throw your plane will stall and fall.....if thrust is not good......
next point, make sure that the motor is started before throw and not during throw.....
Fly high if you have good set of batteries.....!

rajaram

what i have learn t from rajsigma and sandeep sir is to launch in direction of the wind
so that the model would not glide out (in the direction along with the wind)

That goes against conventional wisdom, and I have seen planes plunge into the ground when launched ALONG the wind (instead of AGAINST/INTO the wind).  Are you sure about this ?

I agree with Anwar. It has to be against the wind....
Make sure that your hands clear of servos, rx, servo horns, battery etc.
Try to give slight angle only.(20 to 30 deg)
Don't use excessive force to launch
Release the model with soft hands.
Try to use a neck strap if you are holding Tx and launching all by yourself.(It also avoids the throwing of TX :giggle:)
Some models can are launched under arm and sideways (like throwing a Frisbee).

Assuming that the model is high winger...........

Make sure that your model is properly balanced.
Hold the model at CG.
Model above your head level.
Nose pointing into the wind.
Wings parallel to ground.
Adequate power.
Run into the wind with model in hand raised above head.
Feel the model lifting.
Give it good throw and make sure wing level, nose slightly pointing downward when it leaves your hand so that model gains speed and it does not stall.
Follow what Saikat said above.
Elevator adquately up take rudder help at low heights to correct any veering from straight path.

The running and aiming level or ever slightly lower is only when you suspect (or if you are sure) that you do not have enough juice in the power system for the plane to take off comfortably, right ?  Otherwise standing still and aiming a bit upwards seems to work well in practice ?

The only model I throw running few steps is this Weston Magnum of my friend Mr. Lal. Its very heavy in construction because of the materials used to fabricate its strong body and belly area for landing in tarmac surface. This model doesn't have a landing gear and reaches up to 150 mph + ??. The normal foamy planes are usually hand launched standing.

Wow ! What prompted the use of such a pipe ?  Screaming RPM, like in pylon racers ?

And what engine is that ?

according to ur mode u can use ur left or right hand, give 50 percent throttle and 60 percnt elevator and just push it.

Hand lounging, the person who stands near me is Issac Palat, he was a great flyer in 1950 s , he used to make his own designs in balsa. now eye problem hestops, but in this 80 s also very much interested, he comes me every time go for flying . and he is the uncle of aranthadi roy, author of GOD OF SMALL THINGS

50 to 60 % is ok for twinstar but not for all models, what about launching a multiplex twister or funjet with half throttle ;) .it all depeds on the model and the power set up u r using

amulu10

can someone tell how to throw a pusher prop like a funjet safely? i have read too many post where pusher prop planes have hurt the launcher!  :(

santhosh

sorry , i never hand launched a single one :giggle:

Best way is to swing and throw it, holding one side.(Like throwing a frizbee) Or under arm throw also is safe.

from my experience (my friends are hand launching  all the time for me) give full throttle, this is what i usually what i do for my funjet, and throw a slightly upward angle to the sky
