HI,

i plan to make a delta wing ( can be thrown to take off )  for instant deployment in case of an accident or floods........now this will mean marking the way points so has to have a gps enabled FC.............i am thinking of APM .......

the distance can be max 25 km one way ........... will have a camera / osd/ GROUND CONTROL STATION ......telemetry and FPV .............Well if i play with way points , i feel that i wont need a telemetry and the FPV instantly.

the wing flies to the given spot films it .....gets back in hover mode near me and i get it back to review the video ...........i will have to add the FPV later but by the time the client would pay for that.

now the questions

1. has anyone tried this thing
2. is it possible
3. my encouragement is youtube videos
4. is my choice of delta wing fine
5. what esc/motor / lipo and FC should i go in for
6. what material is good for this....i mean the wing body
7. i will have another tracker on it in case if it dies mid way with its own battery.
8. has anyone worked with locking a mobile target ( means if i follow a vehicle and see it on ground control thru FPV can i lock my wing to follow it autonomously ?????????????????????) i can do it thru mission planner but that is manual
9. any one can guide me regarding the size / wingspan of the same.
10. any thing else i might be missing here.............pls guide

thanks in advance............

open to help and be helped .....................

a) How do you plan to control the system at that range (in case autonomous system fails)?
b) Wouldn't a multicopter be a more efficient and productive solution?

You CAN go for x8 delta wing or UAV talon ...or or bixler as for the model
Model which CAN fly that far a distance is really pushing it to its limits not an easy task

But i would say you don't need fpv if you are PLANNING for mission based stuff
But surely do have a telemetry to track the exact position of plane ...how would you know that it crashed ON mid air ....

But here is the big risk .....your flight controller do not compensate for any machanical fault ON your wing say if any of the push rode is out of its place or completely knocked out then it will still use that servo arm regardless that it CAN not function SO ... in this case FPV CAN Help you ....
Lot of things come into play for this .... once my plane was attacked by an eagle now what's the possibility of plane attacked by eagle???   By my guess I was in his hunting territory

And as for following a perticular object it is till now in market I think or you have to use andreno based sensor or similar things but still any sensor in hobby world CAN not follow visually you need somekind of trackable signal from object you could follow ....

SO lower your target for experiment let say only to 3-5 km
Flying safe is the formost priority in this hobby
Be safe

cyberhack

you can lock on a target by apm kinda for that you need to connect telemetry to ur andriod cell phone and go into follow me mode idk if it works for delta planes but for multirotors it works awesome next for more processing kinda for unknown targets you can use image processing kinda some opencv libraries and you are good to go :) a experiment though all the best :) but i would say always keep a manual control and sight of vision by fpv atleast so that there is no accident or crash :)

google for MyFlyDream Auto-Pilot see the specs....
AUTO LAUNCH --- jus push THROTTLE UPTO 1/2 & THROW THE PLANE IT WILL STABILIZE ITSELF FROM LAUNCH POINT & it will climb up to the altitude which was set at a desired degree of climb & if u want to gain control of the plane by urself just touch the ELEV STICK now the plane will be in ur hands & then you can go on for other modes
STAB MODE
ATT MODE
CIRCLE mode....thats a good mode set the plane settings in CIRCLE MODE It will just move in CIRCLES in a set radius point
WAY POINT POINT ..set 10 different waypoints....on OSD it will show the WAYPOINTS & how much far is the next waypoint.etc..etc...
RTH* mode if everthing fails.....& also all the TELEMETRY data is also available if you have an antenna tracker where u can view ur plane on google map moving ..real time location...voltage level..etc
...MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN APM,PIXHAWK...google urself..for MFD AP...

i have 3 of the units in stock ...20k+shipping

Hi,

Yes I have used the MFD system and achieved over 20 Km (46 KM round trip), with WP navigation. (could go further if not for battery limitations)

I have 4 different brands of AP's. 1 FeiYu Tech FY41AP (its an OK system, Negative points for no RSSI). 2. RVOSD (easily the best system that i have ever used except, the font size is too small (cant be changed) and the GUI is too cumbersome to use in flight) 3. ArduPlane AP2 (all round good system) 4. My Fly Dream V2. After using the other 3 systems I have found that the MFD is the best of the bunch because of its ease to use and set up. Its not as technically perfect as the RVOSD or the APM2 but for the price it cant be beat !

The setup that i used is as follows:

Airframe: Skywalker X8 and FPV Ranger
Battery: DUPU 10,000 mah for motor & 2500 mah for VTX and AP
Radio: Taranis plus with EZUHF external module and 8Ch diversity receiver (stock antennas)
VTX/RX: Lawmate 1.2 Ghz on 1080
Video Antenna: You guys wont believe this "Cheap HK LHCP" long stem antennas $15 for the pair. I got better      video clarity with these than with the VAS bluebeam on VTX and VAS pepper box on the receiver (Ibcrazy $150+ for the set + shipping).
Camera: Sony PZO420
Auto pilot: MFD.
RF Noise: All the wires were individually wrapped in aluminium foil.

This was my normal setup for flying every weekend in Dubai till some IDIOT flew over the airport and shut down air traffic for over 2 hours. Thats when the Laws changed for long range FPV flights in Dubai.

Please understand that having ANY auto pilot will not guarantee a safe flight. There are a million things that can go horribly wrong and some are the most simple that are over looked. Please also AVOID the urge to use RTH in cases of video loss (RF loss will automatically kick in RTH is you set it up as a failsafe). Your AP dose not know the topography of the terrain you are flying over (Hills, buildings, etc), set goals in 1 to 2 km increments to test your set up. Your system will be under more stress the further out you fly.

1 point that i will like to mention thats very important is, PLEASE make sure that the battery for the MFD AP is ROCK SOLID. If you run out of juice or have a loose connection, you WILL NOT have any RC link. The stock OSD will only show you the Main Battery voltage and not the VTX/AP battery voltage (this can be modified, check www.myflydream.com)

Fly safe .... and don't break the law.

@fida..In MFD AP package it comes with a 100AMP current sensor &  also an AIR SPEED SENSOR &  if you wish to you can buy additional CURRENT SENSOR &  put the pins into air speed port it will automatically detect its a dual battery &  it will display the mAh consumed for both the lipo batteries

fida

@Bladeheli .... yes I am aware of that and have done the mod .... if you read my post thats exactly why I mentioned it .... "the stock OSD will only show you the Main Battery voltage and not the VTX/AP battery voltage (this can be modified, check www.myflydream.com)"
