I don't have this radio, and don't know of the internal circuitry,  giving 8.4V instead of 7.2V, kinda over voltage ??? :)

Seems to be discussion for discussion's sake.
Without any factual data.
Why not check the voltage with a fully charged 6 cell NiMh?
And compare with a fully charged 2s lipo?

You may be surprised at the answer.

Iyer sir, sorry for a discussion for discussion's sake :)

Hitec optic sport 6 supports a 2S LiPo with out any problems :)
An RCG discussion also supports that.
