Hello there,

I am planning to buy Xioami Fimi X8.  I guess I will need license for that?  Can you tell me the process? When I went to the DGCA  website, there were few options. Do I need to choose "Remote pilot"?

It asked me to upload a pilot training certificate too.  I am confused. Please help me out there.

Best Regards
Rakesh

Very easy...

You will need to procure a Unique Identification Number (UIN) for your drone. For this, you will need to file an application (which costs ₹1000) with the DGCA. For this application, you will need to make sure you have the following:

Specification sheet, User Manuals, Maintenance Guidelines, Weight & Maximum Capacity of UAV, etc
Equipment Type Approval (ETA) from the Wireless Planning Commission
A Security Clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs
Once you receive your UIN, you need to mount this on a fire-resistant plate on your drone, similar to a car's license plate.

For drones in the Small categories and up, in addition to getting a Unique Identification Number, you will also need to procure a Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit (UAOP), which is basically a pilot's license.

To apply for a UAOP, you will need:

UIN Number of the drone
Details of training records (With ground training done from a DGCA approved Flight training school)
Security programme from Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
Permission of Landowner for Takeoff & Landing
Insurance Details (If applicable)
Standard Operating Procedures (If you are unsure of this, approach the manufacturer of your product for assistance).
Details of fees paid

Please keep us posted on the progress. :hatsoff:

"OR" you may contact any Bangalore "based" drone manufacturers to fulfil your need.

In case you are old enough to remember the "Permit Raj" days of 70s and 80s ... you may know what lying ahead. If you are not that old grab some one who tried to setup a (even small) manufacturing unit in those days.

Wow you are still here and didn't run away. Start from here for WPC http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/faq.asp#3

I am not sure what you mean. I had some questions and needed help. I didn't post here for the sake of timepass.. If you mean that.   Thanks for the link.  I guess you haven't checked the drone I mentioned?  Its operating with  5.825-5.875GHz  and as in your link FAQ  http://www.wpc.dot.gov.in/faq.asp#4 its license-free bands

Here is manual for the drone I am planning to buy

Its most like DJI Mavic pro clone. from Xioami. Do I still need to do all those process?

Perhaps you don't understand... this forum is for RC "Hobbyists" who do "timepass" in an extremely creative and serious way. And on top of that we do have a policy not to entertain "import" and "customs" only queries. Now to answer you..... yes you have to get into that process. That will be all from me. Thank you.

RakeshR

My query was not related to "customs" or  "import" it was just related to  "DGCA registration"

RakeshR if you are purchasing it in India, you fly as you like. No one is going to come to your home or field to enforce rules. As long as you don't do anything like flying near a defence installation or historical place where there is a heavy footfall. As for purchasing from abroad India that's something which is not advised

This is called a reply. Now you understood. I am purchasing it from a local seller.  Do I have to careful of police then if I dont have a registration?  My only purpose of buying this drone is just travel photography and shooting. May be some landscapes on tourist points. Thats it.

Thats a grey area where you intend to go, people have got into serious trouble over using drones in tourist places or points. But do post your experiences.
