They are not really eagles. They are Kytes. For your own safety do not throw stones at them. I have horrifying personal experience in dealing with kytes. They are expert flyers and if you throw stones, they will dodge them easily. The biggest problem will be after that. Once they identify you as enemy, they will single you out for nasty dive attacks. They appear to come from nowhere and attack in pairs. I have been victim of such attacks in our colony and have suffered deep bleeding wounds on my forehead. They have attacked my wife, children and nephew(4 inch wound which narrowly escaped stitches). In short whosoever associated with me. The best way is to ignore and avoid them. Over a period of time they will adjust with you and your models and then there will be not trouble.

OMG!!! Thats dangerous, lucky we only have crows in kolkata.
Kites huh?On my terrace,my mum has had a close shave with them. Thanks for the heads up vishwas.I haven't tried hurting them but what you say is totally true. The dives are terrifying. And the best way to deal with them is ignoring them as Vishwas has said.Worked for me.
maybe i have to find somewhere to fly where it is less birds
guess they are not used to my flying pattern
I have one nice idea, keep a dead mice a little away from the flying, on your way to the field, that will act as a deterrent to them and keep them busy for a while
clayboy, where do you fly in pune?
i fly @ gliding centre
There are few kites at baner, they follow my easystar coz it looks like a bird , but till now they were very harmless. I dint do anything about it,just ignored them. Sometimes i just give it a full throttle, the sound of 2200kv scare them away.
But they are not there everytime we fly, just sometimes.
ok maybe i should try your place next weekend if it is ok?
i think if i would fly like a plane it would not b a problem,
i am trying to fly 3d and birds get really confused when they gadder around and the heli, its moving in all directions and i had already many close calls but they will not go away

Dear Clayboy,

I did see you with 2 helis. I had been there for microlite gliding and for enquiry about paragliding training. So, see you next time.
Vishwas
they generally chase and even attack the small electric foamies.
they leave 46 size nitro birds alone- try flying them.
anyway, you are intruding in their AIRSPACE on sunday mornings- so one must be a gracious guest and put up with the birds.
regards, Avijit
You could place one of those lost plane buzzer or something on the plane/heli, and turn it on when the birds get near .The noise may keep them off.
As Avijit said we are the intruders and the birds should not be harmed in any way.

IMO shoot them, anothr new hobby invented...lol ;)
Shoot them!!!!!!!!! This is in very bad taste. So many birds are killed due to human activities, at least we should not do it intentionally.
Corruption and such irresponsible behavior towards the environment are birds of the same feathers.Need to be rooted out.
Our very existence depends on the plants and animals around us(Nothing is useless every thing created has a purpose in nature, the only creature which does not have a purpose in nature is man.),we may not understand this now but wait 15-20 years ,it will be very clear, but too late.
I know a lot about biodiversity and ecosystem,i'v been a bio student in my high school and intermediate.
Either ways, i wont care the hell for nature and biodiversity if a kyte is coming to bite off my face!!!!!!
Animals have very simple needs, food is one. It will do that only if have a rat on your face.
u mean this guy
vishwasvm
had rats on his face...?? :D
no ofense meant to you

If you provoke then such things happen.See how defensive/offensive you are.Same with animals.

looks like they dont care about noise , i mean a 600-700 electric heli whipping around is not exactly quiet
I have not experienced such size heli noise, but if u say it is loud it must be. Sometime the amount is less important and the quality more important. If you have heard those ultrasonic electronic mosquito/pest repellents ,to us they do not make much noise but the frequency that is emitted is very noisy for the mosquitoes/pests.So these buzzers make very shrill sound of high frequency which may be effective against birds. I would like to test this but I have no such problem here.See

Who doesn't ;D
I like "Cut The Rope" and the "Boxed In" series a lot more ;)
Just attach a black large feather or a Black piece of carry-bag at the end that keeps crow far from your foamy. Believe this. I have seen much fishery pond, black carrybag pieces bonded in string and covers over the pond with 5' - 10' Gap. Even I have tied one feather to Di-Pole antenna of my home that saves from early breakage due to crow and works nice.
But what about Eagles and vultures ? Is their brain smart like crow ?
Does anyone use Camera Xenon flashbulb at tail? Try with a mirror and sunlight pointing any crow. The trick may help from Vultures and Eagles too. Of course another channel is required in Tx/Rx.
Thanks
I have seen a thread regarding importing an electric gun some months before..Couldn't search it..
Kites/Eagles with their great eyesight are very curious birds i would say. They generally tend to flow gliders such as easy star. I have had multiple kites bites on my easy star with no damage as the plane would simply wobble a bit. I think they are just trying to provoke and checkout the "new bird's" reaction. Infact I treat them as a good sign. When I used to fly at baner; to the left there is a small mountain ridge which generates thermals. Around 8.30-9.00am you can see these kites flying in circles and going up. I just used to follow them and the plane gained altitude without any throttle.
Me too, i get twice flight time on the same battery on days when the eagles show up in baner.
Also eagles have very badass kind of attitude, they always try to intimidate you. You chase them and think you are scarring them off but the eagles enjoy it and will keep coming back for the rush of it.
Once three eagles were chasing my easystar. as i was flying very low i decided to land fearing a crash. I dived and landed where i can, one of the eagle dived after me punched holes on my plane and kept it pinned to the ground. When i ran towards it shouting my lungs out, the eagle quickly took a bite out of the wing tip, spit it out and flew away screaming :o
problem with flying 3d is that they will not b able to get away, plane is another story,
i had so many close calls , i was just waiting for it to happen, i just hope they r klever enough to stay away but i guess not
Here's one way of getting rid of them !
You loose the airplane too.
HAHA...xantos's aircraft is a Martyr !! :)
kudos to you :salute:
HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA i love the slingshot
That wasnt a very pleasant experience though - That was a Opus Full Carbon composite Turbine powered glider flyin at about 350 kmph that hit the eagle. There was a resounding Smack and rapid decceleration from 350 - 0 kmph . BTW the bird hit was on a full power vertical going up - I didnt see the bird and I doubt the bird saw what was coming.
Bird came down dead before it hit the ground and turbine stopped and glider kept flying.
Damage was a crushed leading edge- repaired now but not suitable for turbine power anymore.
Whoa.Must've been horrible.Sorry for your plane.
Sorry for your plane and sorry for the eagle too....
Vishwas
Wish the eagle could also be fixed and fly again.
Jitender
exactly my feeling, i love eagles :(
Bird Hit #2
This is the PITS !!
Flying my Boomerang WOT cruising along at 150mph I hit a bird AGAIN ! :banghead:
Pics attached tell rest of the story - now that BB gun seems like a good idea >:D
Shit!! when did this happen? Sorry for your loss man.
Well,I guess eagles love your planes :P
Hope it didn't damage everything.Anything salvageable?
i tried to fly today again and planted my logo again, 1 ail servo gave up, probably a side effect from when i hit the bird last time.
took up my tdr and they started to atack this 1 as well, i meen it is a 90 size heli. looks like size not matters for this birds
think i have to be done with the flying before 9, looks like thats when they come where i fly now
Xantos,
I echo your feeling, i lost a very dear friend of mine due bird hit, he was there in my marriage the previous day and the next day ,he was gone. having said that, have you seen Aeroplanes land with lights on even during day? wondered why ? it is an effective ant bird measure. Birds are very intelligent there is no panacea to this problem, they get used to any measure you take very quick, therefore the trick is to keep changing them. some of them are Zon Guns (http://www.birdbusters.com/scare_bird_canon.html), Reflective/lighted strips, Cartridge based Guns , dogs. all of'em should be in place.
PS
Putting a nose light or a LG light on a expensive RC Jet will pay dividends , believe you me
i am going to paint some eyes on the canopy and see if it works
ok some grate news if some 1 have problem with kites on the field
i painted some eye`s on my tdr and kites came direct as usual but i chased them around for 10 seconds then it was not a kite on the sky .
Nice idea.
Letting them know that they aren't the kings of the skies. >:D

Bird Strike on plane! New Delhi Black Kite Hawk Attacks GWS E-Starter - Talons Strike Wing
The local hawks are aggressive. You have to outmaneuver them and anticipate their attack move so in case they make contact, you can safely recover.
Moderator Note: Merged with similar thread to consolidate all ideas.
Don't fly in their areas ;D :giggle:
The whole country is their area. A better warning is "Don't fly anything you don't wan't to risk being attcked and destroyed (crash result) by them!"
Hey Lance,
You may use some Air shots (fire crackers) to scare away the birds and then fly your aircraft.
Damage report pls...
Its very common in most of the Flying fields. Only on some days they are more freaked out. just land the plane or increase the motor RPM if they come close to the plane
Angry Birds - In Real Time Hehehe ;D
Please do tell something about the picture

i observed one thing that birds keeps away from yellow planes.. and do not know why..!!
Not RC related... a bit surprised by the damage though.
